The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

We saw Jersey Boys last night and loved it! It even won over my husband, who wasn't thrilled about going. Of course, I had no idea what anyone was saying for the first 15 minutes... but eventually my ears adapted to whatever language they were speaking :rotfl2:

I had a good idea I would at least like it because I have a thing for biographical movies. But it was even better than I expected! I loved the parts where they showed real footage while the actors performed and mirrored the movements - COOL!

So glad you like it, one of my favorites!!!

I'm going to be seeing "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" with Daniel Radcliffe tonight! I'll come back & post a review sometime tomorrow.

I'm seeing that next week, I can't wait! I heard he was fantastic. :thumbsup2

I just got tickets to The Book of Mormon. It's supposed to be hilarious! I tried the lottery for it last week, but it was a madhouse and I didn't win. The reviews were fantastic.

I'm so jealous of the people the get to see How to Succeed... It looks really good. I also really want to see Book of Mormon it sounds really fun and like it has good music. But the show opening on broadway that I really want to see right now if Catch me if You Can. The pairing of Norbert Leo Butz and Aaron Tveit is amazing.

I just got back from the first preview of Sister Act! It was FABULOUS! A little long and a few unnecessary songs, but all in all it was just SO much fun!

A little "north" of b/way, however, I just purchased tickets to the Christmas Show (Radio City). Finally, it's a NEW show this year!! It's pre-sale only right now. Just sign up for their mailing list.

The verdict is in: Daniel Radcliffe can sing & dance!!!!! The show was fantastic, he did a great job, as did John Larroquette who played the president of the company. It was a fun evening of theater. Daniel also did a good American accent, which never slipped. I loved it so much, I want to go back.

Uh Oh Missy, could Daniel be your "Billie"???????????? :lmao:

Agreed! I saw it yesterday, he was terrific! The show was so much fun. Daniel could sing and dance, his American accent was perfect, and he was really funny. Such a little cutie! (and I do mean little - he's so short!) Him and John Larroquette doing the football scene was one of my favorite parts of the show.

They were collecting for BC/EFA after the show, so after Daniel gave the post-show speech after the curtain calls (back in his regular voice), John Larroquette just looked at him and said "You're British?!?!" :rotfl:

We also saw the evening show of Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark. The special effects were really impressive, the cast is very talented, yet they somehow managed to make Spiderman incredibly boring. The show was just terrible.

I went to see Mamma Mia at the Philharmonic yesterday.....it was GREAT!!!!

My parents got me tickets to see Wicked for my birthday. This will be my first time seeing a show at the Kennedy Center.

I finally saw "Oklahoma!" (1999) with Hugh Jackman (through Netflix). I loved it! What a voice he has ... And he's not too bad to look at, either. ;) I had only seen the film (Shirley Jones, Gordon MacRae) up until this point. The stage version made me see the character of Jud Fry in a whole new light. I felt sympathy toward him for the first time. :sad1:

I am glad to hear that!!! We have gone every year since my daughter was 2 (she will be 12 this year!!) and I was getting pretty bored with going to see it but she says its our tradition so we just keep going-I will be glad to see a new one!!!

Has anyone seen Wonderland yet? We are seeing Mary Poppins again next Saturday and also going to the Harry Potter Exhibit at the Discovery Times Square before we go to Poppins. I think we are going to Jeckyl and Hydes for dinner after the show since the kids I am bringing both love that place. Then the Saturday after that we are going to see Wonderland.

I saw it in Tampa (twice - but they were very different shows). I hope you love it!! :lovestruc

Saw a preview of "Anything Goes" this past week, starring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. Its opening night is this coming week. Had a fairly ridiculous plot, but then again lots of musical comedies do. Pretty good show overall, but not great. However, the title number right before intermission, especially the dancing in it, was spectacular. That alone was almost worth the price of admission.

Lucked out with a single half price ticket in the center of the front row of the mezzanine, which I consider to be the best seats in the house. The theatre, Stephen Sondheim Theatre, was peculiar. It's actually in the basement level of the building. The street entrance was at the TOP of the balcony and you had to go DOWN to all the seats.

In late February I saw La Cage aux Folles with Harvey Fierstien and Jeffrey Tamblor. I read that Jeffrey Tamblor quit the show a few days after I saw it. Yet his name is still on the large billboard for the show in Times Square.

In Early March it was The Addams Family, with Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane. Bebe is always a treat to see. Nathan Lane left THAT show a few days later. In this case the billboard has been updated.

Wondering if Joel Grey is destined to leave Anything Goes now that I've seen it. ;)

I like to compare the original stage versions and the movie adaptations too!

It is amazing how different they can be!

I've heard that Hugh Jackman has the movie rights to "Oklahoma" and has been wanting to redo an updated movie version. I think he wants to change some of the domestic abuse/battered woman elements, which I have to admit, make me uncomfortable.

Don't know when it will be filmed or out though.

I just won two tickets to Next to Normal in Pittsburgh tomorrow night! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see it.
