The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

One of the beautiful things about seeing shows in Cleveland is that theatre legend Joe Garry does a half hour talk before each show on that day’s show. Free of charge. You don’t even need a ticket to the show to attend!

RUN to see Into the Woods-it was so simply done it gave a fresh new take on a classic! Performances were divine (including wonderstudy Mary Kate Moore who was on for Sara Bareilles). And yes Milky White the puppet will become your fave thing!

Shameless plug for a friend and collaborator.

Anyone wanting to see an off Broadway Show thats close to all the action (as in its literally next door to Schmackery's)? Anyone have a Saturday matinee planned and then lost a bunch of lottos for the night?

Go see Love Quirks composed by Seth Bisen-Hirsch! It is running through to Labor day weekend!

I also recommend Titanique (you all know that already though lol) and Little Shop of Horrors! Plus the Yiddish version of Fiddler on the Roof is returning too!

Off Broadway has some amazing stuff!

Also starting to get excited for the fall especially with ITW extending! So many plays! I am planning a two show solo day to see the revival of TopDog/Underdog and Leopoldstat

The show is now extended another 8 weeks through Oct. 16. :thumbsup2

That's good news for Broadway as 3 other shows, previously mentioned, will be closing at the end of summer. :(

Into the Woods was FANTASTIC, had the good fortune to see it twice already and I’m so rarely ahead of the curve on buzzy productions (i.e. no chance now I’m seeing SIX x.x)
Isn't it brilliant?!? I know John and Kevin were there last night!

I love how simple it is done! It really allows the story to come through beautifully!

To Kill a Mockingbird will not be returning to Broadway after all. They took a break for several months, hoping to come back this summer, once the tourists came back to NYC. Instead an email was sent to the cast & crew telling them the return is officially canceled.

There is so much more horrible things behind the scenes. R**** was supposed to have step down. The only way to have him not regain control of the music man (other than Hugh and Sutton refusing to work) and Book of Mormon is for Equity to immediately put him on the do not work list which should have happened long ago.

There is so much more. But I am hopefully given they released the NDAs of those who worked for him and in shows and they finally put Garth Drabinsky on the do not work list.

Myself and many other humans will be monitoring this closely

Hey, everyone! As promised I'm back with an update. A while back I said that me and the family were auditioning for a local production of The Sound of Music. I'm happy to report that we all got cast in the show, not the parts we wanted, but we're all in the show together. My wife is Sister Sophia, I'm Admiral von Schreiber and my DD is Marta, on the von Trapp kids. So excited to be in a show together with the whole family. Looking forward to both the rehearsals and performances.

Took the family this past weekend to Boston to see the national tour of Anastasia. It was a good musical, but not one I'd rush out and see again, maybe this was because we had limited view seats, but it was a good musical. The show was in the Opera House, which is a beautiful theater and I always love doing to see shows there. Annie is coming to the Opera House later this season, but tickets for that show are already sold out, maybe next time. Hamilton will be there starting Jan 17th to sometime in March. The Tina Turner musical, My Fair Lady and Hairspray will also be there this season, so a pretty good season. Well, gotta run to work. Have a good day.

Another "alternative things to see when not watching a Broadway show":

Newly opened:

Due to how popular the Immersive Van Gogh show was, the creators spent the last 3 years, acquired the landmark Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank in Lower Manhattan, refitted it and it is now the permanent home to the largest digital art (immersive) experiences in the U.S. called Hall des Lumieres. It will feature new immersive shows in which works from highly acclaimed artists will be featured for 10 to 12 months, then change after that.

The first exhibition, Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion, uses more than 130 video projectors. The end result makes the viewer feel like they are inside a piece of art. "Every surface is covered and what you will see, it's very interesting, there's almost no shadows," Pierre Battu, the general manager said.

Hall des Lumieres is open seven days a week and ticket prices start at $30 for adults. Special prices are also available for seniors (65+), youths (ages 5-16), members of the military and college students, while children under 5 are free.

You can see a video of the Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion Immersive experience here:

After 35 years on Broadway, The Phantom of the Opera will close in February. It is Broadways longest running show.

A few days ago, The Music Man announced it will be closing Jan 1.

Dear Evan Hansen closes tomorrow.

This is in addition to several shows, Broadway & Off-Broadway, that have closed recently and are scheduled to close. The pandemic and inflation have taken it's toll on Broadway.

Very sad about this - it’s my most favorite.
I would love to see it one more time (I’ve seen it twice), but I guess that will not happen :sad1:
I just have my memories now.

I have not seen a play since before COVID - I miss it.
I live 45 minutes away from Chicago, so seeing live theater is very convenient. It’s time for my DH and I to start going again 🙂
