The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Haven't seen him het but am buying tickets this week for it. Would you like me to perhaps grab you a playbill so at least you have that?

That is such a sweet offer! Thank you but I don't want to trouble you to mail it etc etc!! I do have NPH's playbill so am pretty happy about that. Give us a review and I will be happy to live vicariously through you!!

PS We celebrated my daughter's 15th birthday yesterday and I gave her the Shroud of Hedwig and an NPH Hedwig tshirt. She was pretty happy!

Thought I would offer! When I was telling DBF about this he was like how well do you know them lets fly them in haha. I had to tell
them it was just someone on disboards. He has a very generous heart and has helped many of our hometown friends (he's from FL and I'm from Texas and thanks to my Cp I have friends from sll over) come and visit us in NYC.

Your DBF sounds awesome!! We live in British Columbia so its a fair hike across the country! I would just treat us to this trip except that we were JUST THERE in August for 10 days. A bit extravagant to run back within 4 months lol! Hence the lotto ticket plan...if we were to win the money then there would be no good reason not to blow it decadently! :dance3: Can't wait to hear your review though! :thumbsup2

Saw Aladdin at the Amsterdam theatre yesterday. Very very good. The Genie was amazing.

I loved Aladdin! The whole magic carpet ride was soooo well done and beautiful! And i completely agree... Genie was AMAZING!!!:banana:

Want to take my daughters 9 and 11 to a Broadway show but can't decide between Aladdin, The Lion King or Wicked for their first show. Any suggestions? Also, recommended seating? We will not be in the front but I still want them to be able to see the show lol.

We too just saw Aladdin last Saturday October 25th. The Genie is AMAZING!! Wonderful voice. The girl that played Jasmine was just okay.
The costumes were fantastic, as was the music! Nobody does it better than Disney!

(the theatre for WICKED (Gershwin) has much more comfy seats however! )

Wicked is amazing and I think your girls would really enjoy it. Front Mezz is an amazing option at the Gershwin and is one of my favorite places to watch from.

I would put Aladdin 2nd choice with front Mezz to mid Orchestra in the New Amsterdam. Stay away from the balcony. I don't think I would take free tickets for that balcony personally as I have sat there on 3 different occasions and didn't enjoy it.

Lion King is 3rd. It is amazing and I love it so it is a very close 3rd. No seat in this theater is bad. I say in the last street and was still able to see everything.

Yes, I agree the magic carpet ride was really well done. That was my favorite scene.

Any one of those would be memorable for them.

I took my dd to Wicked for the first time (she's seen it 5 times now) when she was 10. She was blown away! We both were, but it made a big impact on her. That would be my choice.

Three great choices and you won't lose no matter what you pick but perhaps one of the two Disney ones may be a good choice as they have probably seen the movies and know some of the music? Although you could definitely play them the Wicked cast recording in advance to familiarize them with it. The puppeteering is so wonderful in LK but Aladdin is very colourful and "dance worthy!" :cool1:

Wicked was great, Lion King was too-I would see either of those over Alladin.

I've seen wicked 4 times now, and highly recommend it to anyone. Your girls are a great age for it.

Big Broadway fan here! Part of the reason I chose to go to college in Hoboken is because of is proximity to NYC. I currently really want to see On the Town, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, and Side Show.

On the Town is an amazing classic treat. Lots of dance breaks and wonderful music.

A Gentleman's Guide is hilarious. I'm so glad it won the Tony. One because it is amazing and two because my friend gets to keep his job a little longer.

I still have not seen Side Show but will soon. The holidays always make it harder to get up town to see shows.

Wicked is the only one of those that I've seen and it was the show that made me fall in love with musicals. However, it may or may not be suitable for a 9 and 11 year old as it does have some dark bits and loud bits (frankly, I find the Wizard's head quite terrifying, plus there's flying monkeys, a dragon, etc.). I would say the target audience is probably more teens and tweens. So if your girls are 9 going on 16, then it should be fine. However, if they are still really just kids, then I think one of the other two would be more appropriate. Plus, if this is hopefully just the first of many shows, then I think it would be fun to see something like Lion King with them being kids while you still can. The sort of reaction they will hopefully have to Wicked will probably be the same for a few years to come. (I hope that makes sense :confused3)

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've narrowed it down to Wicked or Aladdin but I am going to let them choose which one they want to see instead of it being a surprise.

I think Aladdin is very cute, mainly due to the genie, but think Wicked & Lion King are much better shows.

.... WHERE HAS THIS THREAD BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?

I'm going to see Aladdin in January! I have a weekend of master classes in NYC that weekend, so I'm going to try to see Wicked and Les Miserables, too.

I'm from North-Central Jersey where we have the Papermill Playhouse about 15 minutes away. I'm a season subscriber, so I see shows there more often than I do in the city. Recently I saw Can-Can, which I can tell ya'll right now is going to do fantastic on Broadway.
