The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I had NO idea that the ending would be like that. I watched on ON DEMAND one night when I couldn't sleep. Needless to say, it didn't help me sleep.

that has to be one of the saddest movies i have ever seen!

Honestly, I hadn't even heard of this movie until this thread. I just added it to my instant queue on Netflix, though. I've been a sucker for sad movies lately, I'll probably watch it tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, one of the saddest movies I have ever seen....

Isn't the movie based off of a book? I wanted to see the movie, I forgot it had come out on DVD. I'll have to look for it.

It was a book 1st. DS (12YO) read it over the summer for summer reading. We actually read it together so we could talk about it. He watched the movie about a month ago, and said he preferred the book, but that the movie was good too. "Really sad, but good" is his exact quote.

I thought it was, but couldn't remember for sure. I'll have to read it as well. Thank you!!

I thought this movie got bad reviews univerally, so I have avoided. I think it;s on Netflix instant play.

I saw it last yr when it first came out in the theatre. We had received free passes to see it.It was extremely sad :(

The book is on my list of books to read. It is on my kids' reading lists too but wanted to read it first. I haven't gotten around to it as I'm not in a sad book kind of place right now. I've heard from so many how sad it is.

I haven't seen it, but DD has and said it was excellent - although sad..

My 12yr old DS read it too this summer. I read it after him. It was such a powerful book. I recently was hired for a new job and they asked me to fill out a brief questionaire about myself. They asked what is your favorite book and I wrote this book. It really got to me. I would love to see the movie.

I found the movie hard to watch. It was worth seeing once but I wouldn't watch it again, it was too sad.

The book is really good. I watched the movie about 2 weeks ago with DH and he had no clue what it was going to be about. He cried and you'd think I'd betrayed him with how upset he got at me for letting him watch it :lmao:.

I would definitely recommend the book and the movie. I think the book does a better job of really conveying how alike the two boys are, one just happens to be on the other side of the fence. It's interesting to see the subject matter approached through the eyes of a child. It makes it very simplistic but yet more poignant.

I did not know much about the movie when I watched it. I thought it was going to be a feel-good movie about an unlikely friendship, kind of like the Fox and the Hound. I guess it was, up until that sucker punch ending. I felt traumatized (I have a flair for drama ;)). It was an excellent film but I'll never watch it again. I couldn't take it.

My 11 yo dd is reading this for school right now. She said it's sad. I haven't read it but I guess I should prepare for when she gets to the end. She is super-sensitive and will probably cry for a week.
