~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Colleen - Thanks to you and Jeff for the words of encouragement Saturday. It really meant a lot.

We really missed not seeing you, Kathy and Mindy this past weekend. DD10 thinks we need to plan a trip up to VA. Speaking of which, why are Honda prices so much cheaper in VA than NC? Do you are MIndy have any names of dealerships that will give me a good deal? I'll drive 4 hours to save $3K!!

Kathy- Congratulations on your new PR! That's awesome!

Mike- I'm sorry to hear you missed your BQ. I know you trained hard for it.

I'm so behind on the thread, but I wanted to pop in. I've been following along sporadically, and following people on FB.

I actually was able to run 4 days last week! I was excited about that. It was just 3 miles at a time, but I was happy to get 4 runs in. I'm feeling very out of shape and overweight. Right now I'm just working to get my fitness back, and not worrying about much after that.

Take care my friends!

Hey Bots,

Uncloaking out of lurkerdom to check in.

Mike, Kathy and Cindy
Congratulations on another race completed. Even though the results may not have been what was desired, it's still a step in the right direction and a foundation for races to come.

I may have forced myself into premature taper for Las Vegas/Honolulu. Saturday I started out on an 8 miler and got just 0.15 miles before my left knee started hurting so I abandoned the run and skipped Sunday's scheduled 12 miles. I don't think anything serious is going on with the knee, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Next scheduled run is 5 miles on Tuesday. I'll see how that goes.

Fall/Winter races. I'm not opposed to going to Vegas again next year. Hopefully I will no longer need an Arizona marathon by then, but hey, It's a great place to Bot.

Best W.I.S.H.es to all,

Chester

I don't know how it is in NC, but when I was living in CA you couldn't buy a car out of state and bring it into CA until you had owned it for over a year. I'm sure that they do it for tax reasons, otherwise people would buy cars in Nevada or Oregon where the sales taxes are lower and then bring them into CA to save money. Just another thing to look into.

I wondered about that. CA has an outrageous new car tax, we have 3% in NC, what is it in VA?

I don't know, but on top of sales tax, VA has what they call "personal property tax". Each year you have to pay something like 4% of the value of your car in tax. The first several thousand dollars are tax free, but after that, ugh. I think if your new car is worth $25,000, you might end up paying $800 in personal property. Luckily both of our cars are rather old and aren't worth much anymore.

Mike mentioned the "Bull Run Run 50 Miler" on April 18th this weekend and I spent a great deal of time on Saturday researching it. Now I really want to do it.

Here is the website http://www.vhtrc.org/brr/

January: Goofy
March: Tobacco Road marathon (3/21) or VA Beach Shamrock Marathon (3/21) or National Marathon in DC (3/21)

So, it looks like the Bull Run Run 50 miler is an official Bot race!! Count me in.

I'd put us at 75% sure for the Tobacco Road Marathon.

Dave - Great to see you are getting some runs in. Has the official, university sanctioned therapy helped the shins?

Colleen - I'll admit I don't know the ins and outs of vehicle purchasing across state lines (vs. transporting alcohol or firearms:rolleyes:) but go to edmunds.com and plug in some Virginia town close to the border. They'll give you a list of 4 or 5 dealers with contact info. I'm sure one of those would be more than happy to help you. http://www.edmunds.com/dealerships/drr/jump.html

Chester - Here's hoping that the knee behaves itself. You've got too full of a schedule coming up.

Hey Everyone: I'm trying to start posting more. I got another 3 mile run in yesterday. I was forced to run on the TM again because I had my girls with me. I dropped them off at the kids gym, and I had to stay in the building. We're trying to get more activity for the girls. Anyhow, my legs felt OK on the TM. I took it nice and slow.

Mike- I don't know if the University trainer did anything for me or not. Although, they did suggest I switch my shoe inserts, and maybe that's making a difference. I think they got sick of me coming round...

Chester- take care of your knee. When is Vegas for you? It's coming up in early December, right?

Matt- Hope you're feeling better, and Cindy's taking good care of you.

Hey BOTs!

Lou How are you feeling gonig into Philly this weekend? Any leftover aches and pains from NYC? What does the weather look like? Hopefully not low 20s with ice at the water stops like last year
Matt - I feel pretty good (knock on wood). Nicole has come down with a horrible flu and last week Louie had it. Wondering how long I have. Weather looks okay (50s but chance of showers).

Mike - Nice job at Richmond. Interested in hearing what happened during the second half of the race. Was the course tough? I agree with Jodi in that you have all of 2010 to BQ.

50-mile race? That's not too appealing to me. 26.2 is tough enough. Plus, finding time to train for 50 miles would be next to impossible. Right now I am leaning towards Ocean Drive Marathon on 3/28 and Broad St Run in May.

Ran 3 miles at 8:35 mpm pace this morning. Felt pretty good.

Lou

Real quick, guys - I must put a giant turd in the Easter basket that is the Bull Run 50 miler.
There is no way I can justify heading down to VA for a 50 mile run when there is one less than an hour from my home the following weekend.
That being said, obviously my lack-of-presence will not make or break the event, so have at it!!
More later -

Lou- What event are you doing in Philly? Half or Full?

Jodi- Just wanted to say hi, and that we can always count on you to put a turd in the Easter basket, under the tree, in the trick-or-treat bag, and everywhere...

Mindy- Where are you both staying for DIS-a-palooza? I'll be at the Dolphin.

Good Morning Bots.

Mike: Sorry the race didn't go as well as planned. Just one of those days I guess. Just finishing when you've had a blow out is pretty impressive. Good job on hanging in there. Hope the recovery is going well. Give my congrats to Kathy. She did awesomely. (if that's a word) Any races between now and January?

Dave: Congrats on running 4 days a week. That really is an improvement for you. I hope the shins cooperate.

Cindy: Good job on your race especially since you weren't feeling well.

Matt: Glad to hear you are improving. Sorry you missed the race. Good luck with the 50 miler. I'm going to have to pass on that one. I cannot even imagine doing that.

Jodi: Glad Spencer's training is going well. I don't think I'll be able to join you on the 3 races you have planned (NY, Seattle, Chic) but if you do anything local I can try for that. Count me out for any 50 milers.

Howard: Quite the impressive schedule you have planned. I haven't thought ahead that far. I'd love to do the Wine and Dine Half, but having a non-running spouse makes it harder to do some of the destination races.

Chester: I hope the knee problem is nothing serious. Good luck with the taper.

Sara: Glad you had a nice weekend.

Lou: Lots of luck to you this weekend. Have fun.

Colleen: Hope you have recovered from NYC.

Jen: Hello.

Not a lot of running for me. I'm finally starting to recover from this cold I've had. I got out yesterday hoping to do 8. Ended up with 6 which felt pretty good. I have a lot of work to do in the next 7 1/2 weeks. I had originally planned to do a LR of 20 miles 3 weeks before, I think I'm going to drop that to 18 or even 16. We'll see how it all plays out.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Lou- What event are you doing in Philly? Half or Full?

Dave - I'm doing the full. I found someone that couldn't run and bought their bib 2 days after NYC. I feel totally fine and it's odd to say but I am more trained to run a full then a half right now. I ran the PDR at 1:37 in September and don't think I could pull that off on Sunday. However, I think I have a good shot at topping my NYC time as long as the weather is decent.

I'm so impressed at you turning around another full so quickly after NYC... :worship: Man, I'm envious of you guys that keep going without injury. What's your secret?

What is the 50 miler that is near you? Apparently the Bull Run Run fills up, so I might need a backup if I can't get in. Even if we don't end up running the same race, just knowing that someone else will be training for a 50 at the same time will be motivating.

I ran for the first time since I got sick this morning (its been over a week). While it wasn't pretty (coughing, snot rockets and such), at least I got 5 miles in.

Dave Cindy and I are going to be staying at Pop Century. We are trying to go low budget and save some money. Too many Disney trips recently.

Lou In my mind I'm trying to convince myself that trying to run/walk 50 miles slow won't be too much harder than trying to run 26.2 miles fast. I don't think that is actually true, but hey, the 50 mile race has a 13 hour cut off!

MikeAwesome that you are in for the bull run run. Have you ever run on trails before? I haven't. I guess I need to find some and practice.

Sorry I've been so out of posting lately-- life is just crazy busy. I hope you all enjoy the 50 miler :scared:-- sounds like crazy talk to me, I barely have time to train for a full.

Mike: Congrats on what sounds like a tough race in VA-- I have to agree that 3:50 sounds like a pretty impressive time to me.

Matt: Hope you are feeling better.

Dave: No wonder you don't have much time to post, you keep writing Dis blogs:surfweb: I hope the shin holds up for you. Welcome to my world of TM running due to childcare issues...

Chester: Thanks for the info on the Goofy wristband. I'm not even sure why the issue occurred to me now but it gave me yet another thing to stress over so I feel better knowing there is a solution.

Butch is away this week so I'm trying this single mom thing-- not too easy. We did make it to the school bus this morning but only because we sprinted from the front door  Currently having the debate with myself about getting a kitten for DD for Christmas. Butch has bowed out of the discussion and said it is up to me. Any advice....

Matt - Wait, you're going to train for this thing?. MY ultra is on 4/25/10, here's the website: http://www.roadntracksports.com/LWUM/. It's the Jack Bristol Ultra Marathon @ Lake Waramaug. This is where I did my 50k back in '08. Great loop race around a beautiful lake. Flat with some rolling hills....be there!

Hey you LOSER! Running with Matt and me isn't enough of a draw for you??

CindyLou - Thanks for the kind words. No races between now and Goofy. I'm glad you are starting to feel better.

Lou - Good luck in Philly this weekend. And no, the Richmond course wasn't that tough. Just tougher than me.

Matt - You'll have to come out and we can run some of the actual Bull Run course. Just let me know when.

Jen - I hope you win your kitty self-debate.;)

I got back on the horse today and did some running. I walked some with Kathy then ran 4+ after that. Everything felt alright but I ended up walking a bunch of the last mile trying to avert a colonic catastrophe.

Hey you LOSER! Running with Matt and me isn't enough of a draw for you??

Running with Matt is clearly worth the added; time, $$, & stress it would incur to travel to VA to run 50 miles - even though I could run a similar race less than 45 mins. from my house where my entire family could attend to support me. But you? No way. :thumbsup2 ;). And why ru not coming to CT to run MY 50 miler, D-bag?

Matt - In reading your post about drinking in Richmond, it seems like you & I have very similar tastes in ales. Stouts, to be exact - the ones you mentioned sound very good. While in NYC last weekend Bruce & I stopped in a pub & I tried something called Mocha Imperial Stout. Spelled "MoKha" or something, though. Really good stuff!! Anyway, back to this 50miler crap...come on up to CT :woohoo::).

Jen - Please go to your local shelter & have your little one pick out the cutest kitten she can find ! (maybe even take home TWO - mom & baby?) :rolleyes1 I'm just sayin'.....

Lou - Enjoy Philly - no pressure, go easy & smile a lot....:rolleyes1

Dave - So glad you're able to run again. Do you really think it's those inserts that are helping?

Cindy - How're you feelin'? How's Goofy training going? 50 miles for you too?

CindyLou - What have you heard about that really cold marathon in CapeCod in Feb/Mar.? popcorn::. How far are you from like, Springfield? Any good 1/2 marathons up your way in the winter? Ever heard anything about the New Hampshire marathon???popcorn::

Sara - Glad you're enjoying your fall...running, what's that? :rotfl2:

Colleen - When ru arriving in FL in Jan? Please post about our Biergarten plans...not sure what I reserved...was it for 5:30 or something? They may have to tap another keg of Optimator that day!

Chester - Good of you to perhaps return to Las Vegas next year for a BOT run...how's the heel/knee et al, feel? You'll be leaving soon! :woohoo:

Howeird - How's everyone doing??? :grouphug: Tell Cam to come back here when she feels up to it. How's her knee? How's your foot?

Who'd I miss?
