I think that I've read all of Agatha Christie's books and hopefully have most of them in my bookcase. I find her books easy to read and particularly like the Hercule Poroit character.

If you like mysteries with strong characters try the books by Dashiell Hammett. He wrote the Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man and so on, and his books are great reads in spite of their age.

The Messenger is the third book in The Giver series. The whole series is excellent. DD read The Giver in school and gave it to me to read and I loved it as well.

I just read The Egyptologist. It was interesting--but I figured out the big twist about a third of the way through. So...a little disappointing but it was well written.

Now I'm reading Dress Your Family in Courderoy and Denim which is hysterical. And, in my waiting pile, I have the new Robert B. Parker book and a book I found by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson that's a prequel to Peter Pan.

I love the idea of a book thread. I'm always looking for new ones!

I've read all of Dan Brown's books and really enjoyed them. I didn't like the premise of DaVinci Code and actually thought it was one of his least interesting, but he definately writes page turners. Deception Point was actually probably my favorite. He also has one more called Digital Fortress that is good but a bit predictable.

Also have read all of John Grishams and love them all. My favorite of his is The Testament.

I read Life of Pi and was not horribly impressed. I heard so much good stuff about it, but it didn't thrill me.

I just finished reading East of Eden and really enjoyed it. I'm going through my books and trying to hit the ones I haven't read for some reason. I tried East a few years ago and couldn't get into it, but this time I loved it.

I also just read Janet Evanovich To the Nines. I love her books too! She is so laugh out loud funny and quick to read!

I can't wait to read the new Jasper Fforde. I will get it as soon as I can get to a bookstore. I signed up for the book club with Barnes and Noble University online led by the author! I am so excited!! He is one of the most clever and original authors I have read. I can't wait to see what he has to say in the book club!

Well now that I heard that you enjoyed Great Expectations, I'm kind of looking forward to it..I'm sure it will be better than Red Badge of Courage...: pukes :

Anyone read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? It looks pretty good!

Never read that either LittleMissMickey. The Giver is in a series of books. Or different topics by the same author.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is an excellent book. Give it a try--I think you'll enjoy it!

Loads of great books mentioned here! I love it. I thought The Dante Club was excellent. If you liked Coraline (l did) you should check out American Gods and Good Omens (1st is Neil Gaiman, 2nd is NG w/Terry Prachett.) I am a huge fan of Charles deLint - has anyone read his books or story collections? He does a fantastic job of weaving magic and Celtic and Indian folklore into urban stories. Some of his themes can be dark (like child abuse, drug addiction or homelessness) but the characters are always true to life and believable, even when strange things are going on, and he always seems to allow for hope, love and friendship to brighten the darkness.
I wasn't that impressed with the Westing Game - I think I expected something better. The Lemony Snickets are funny but can get to be too much; I have to take them in small doses. I thought the "His Dark Materials" Trilogy was pretty good but I preferred Phillip Pullman's other trilogy about Sally Lockhart. I'm waiting for The Egyptologist, so I'll see if I agree with you, NMAmy - definitely agree that David Sedaris is hilarious.
What else can I add? I've been reading mostly bios lately of old Hollywood stars (just finished one about Greer Garson) but I'm hoping to get to "Shadow of the Wind" this week, since I have to return it soon to the library!

I also like to read Janet Evanovich Her books are all good reads.

Right now I am reading Elisabeth Lowell - The Color of Death.
It is pretty good.

I like Tami Hoag allot also.
