Ok, I know I'm from Jersey, but this is really weird. My DH and I went out to dinner the other night. When we got home I did a few things and when I sat
down to read I noticed there was a message on the answering machine. I started listening to the message and realized it was a wrong number. As I
listened the guy was saying he was "at the hotel", "the body was in the woods", and "come get the car".:scared1: I played it back for my DH because
I wanted to make sure I had heard correctly. We called the police and they came and took the info and said they would see if anybody is reported missing, etc. Freaky!!!

that's one for the "stupidest criminal award" LOL

hopefully it was just someone messing with a friend, and he had the wrong number.....a drunk dial gone horribly wrong.....

Sounds like a stupid prank, but I think you did the right thing. It wouldn't be the first time that police lucked into solving a crime because the perpetrators were phenomenally stupid!

It's 100% definitely a prank.
Most likely, but unless it sounded like kids giggling while they said it, I think the police ought to get the calling number from the phone company and pay the callers a visit.

Definitely not a kid and no giggling. And I think that is what the police said they were going to do.

If you are familiar with South Jersey, there are the Pine Barrens (Jersey Devil) and woods all over. I hope it was a sick joke. I f not, I agree, a very
stupid criminal leaves a message like that!
I have a friend that lives there. When I introduced her to Geocaching, she said there was NO way she would ever search the woods there for caches. She's sure there are bodies there. :scared1:

If this WAS a joke...don't you think the police would have mentioned that this has been going on...people drunk dialing...stating that the "body is in the woods"?

OP, how did the police react that came to your home?

I would have called the police. Scary crap.

Keep us updated.

Oh my gosh! I would be completely freaking out. I do hope they are able to solve it. Do you have caller ID on the phone? I'm sure the police already checked, but I'm curious if the number came up.

When I was in middle school (back when caller ID first became popular) we had kids who thought it would be fun to freak out the girls in town by emulating Scream. :scared1: I unfortunately was on the receiving end of several of those calls, as well as a very scary man who calls and tries to find girls home alone so he can sexually harass them. Thankfully he never took it that far because my mom knew what was going on when she got on the other line, but it scared me half to death because he said he was going to kill me. I was the only one he ever called twice.

After that we got caller ID with anonymous call block and have had no problems since. Perhaps you can do that on yours, block anonymous calls? I don't know how well it works this day in age with the proliferation of prepaid phones, but it might be worth checking into for your own peace of mind. Please keep us updated.

It's like they say, geocachers know where to hide the bodies.
