The Boardwalk Inn Information Thread

I'm pretty sure it is not the villas... My confirmation says "Boardwalk Inn" standard room so I'm assuming it is just a regular room, not a villa. I had originally booked a BCV Studio, but they said nothing was available for the discount so I changed to the BW. I'm not sure what to make of the "facing the pool" part. I guess I'll find out in 6 months, haha.

Since you are in the Inn section, "facing the pool" would refer to the quiet pool, I would guess.

Exactly. the BWI side can have views of the quiet pool, which is quite nice.

Just discovered this thread. Actually I just looked at BW for the first time. What kind of room, floor and view could I expect if I were to book a standard...no frills room?

I have another question in adition to my question above...

Can one request a balcony (especially one facing Epcot) when you get a standard room. I am fully aware that these are just requests but does thi type of room even exist?

Yes! We had a great standard room facing Epcot. We could watch Illuminations from the balcony every night. It was on the 4th floor. It looked directly at the Eiffel Tower in France. You could not see the show on the lake - but you could see the fireworks.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if I could request a 4th floor balcony facing Epcot? I know it is just a request and probably a long shot but what a great view.

You are welcome - it was a great view. I just asked at check in if they had any extra nice views in standard and that is what we got. I would put in a request and then ask again at check in.

Yes, we were offered a standard with a balcony facing Epcot. Instead we got a "courtyard view" on the 4th floor which had a partial water view and BIG deck which overlooked the main courtyard, so we could see all the hustle and bustle of people coming and going. It was great!

We are staying for the first time in a dlx room at the BWI this summer. Is there anything that I should request or are there only a few rooms and requests really won't matter?

Happy99-Good choice on the deluxe room. The extra space is nice & the Boardwalk view is the best!! The one thing to keep in mind about the deluxe rooms is there are 5 on the 3rd floor and 5 on the 4th floor. The lounge is on the 4th floor so if you want to be on the same floor as the lounge request a 4th floor room. The Innkeepers Club CMs are the best Can't wait to be there again in May

Judben821 - the deluxe room is much larger, I belive almost the size of two rooms. It has either one king and a sitting area with a sleeper sofa or two queen beds with the same sitting area. I believe this is how it is set up. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong

Also the deluxe rooms all face the boardwalk area where the standard club level rooms do not

Here are the photos I found of the deluxe rooms on Allears. The decor of the rooms have been updated and they look much nicer but I couldn't find a photo of the updated deluxe rooms

I just wanted to share our experience.

We just got back from 5 nights, standard room (Dec 17 - 22).

I had removed our request for the VIP cleaning, in hopes of that increasing our chances of being upgraded to a boardwalk view. When I checked in, I was told they were doing the cleaning of our room, so they couldn't move us. I said we had cancelled that, but there was nothing they could do to move us (there were tons of other rooms available; I had checked that morning online). So, we went to Epcot for lunch and to walk around.

I could not have asked for a better room! It faced the courtyard, where the boat docks. So we could see a little of the boardwalk, which was cool. It was very clean - my son only needed his nebulizer once this trip, which is great. The biggest plus - we were right next to the laundry room! I did it once late at night, then once early in the morning while everyone else slept. I just made my coffee, and threw a jacket on over my pj's and watched tv while doing laundry. It was early (5:30 am) so I didn't see anyone. We had room 3285, if you are wondering. It was really nice - and my kids took turns sleeping in the daybed/twin bed.

One thing I would do differently - I would not have bothered with our order from Garden Grocer. I got cereal and milk, water, and some wine and beer. I left most of a $20 bottle of wine in the room, and with the dining plan, we didn't actually need any of the snacks at all! You can get a bowl of cereal with milk for one snack credit at the bakery, for example, so it was so not needed to have any food or drinks extra. I didn't really need the wine or beer at all; I much prefer to enjoy that out at the parks, and later in the evening I was too tired anyway. So, with the dining plan, I would never again get any groceries for the room.

We got room service the first night, as the kids and I were so tired. While I have to say, the service was great, the food really was kind of awful. We ate it anyway, as we were tired. My son and I both got steak, which was super dry and mine was way overcooked, but I ate it. DD got macaroni and cheese, which was very strong cheddar flavor, so she didn't eat much of it. I would have just gone to the bakery for sandwiches if I'd known how convenient that was, and it's on the dining plan. So, okay, two things I'd do differently...

Overall, I don't see why this resort isn't more popular. The kids loved the pool (spent two whole afternoons in it). The location is perfect! I will definitely stay there again!

What is VIP cleaning service? I guess I missed that.

Our standard room was one floor up from you in the same range, and I agree, the view was wonderful! Courtyard and the water, seeing the boats come and go and the hustle and bustle of the people. Loved it!

I meant to comment: AllEars and some other sites still list Boardwalk as having 24 hour room service. And even the guy at the Beach Club front desk (we had walked over there looking for food late one night) thought they still did, even though it has been years since they offered it. BC/YC apparently still does have 24 hour room service, by the way.

Our flight had been delayed by over an hour, and we had originally planned to grab a late bite either at one of the hotel restaurants, or pop into World Showcase since we were arriving on EMH night and it was open until 12:30. Well, we got to the hotel after midnight, instead of just before 11pm as we had thought we would, and were stuck. We had heard of a late place to eat in the Swan, but hadn't noted too much about it. But we sought it out.

More people need to know abgout Picabu! Picabu is a cafeteria type setup hidden way out of the way at the Swan. We missed it twice before we got directions urging us to go further down this hallway that seemed to be a dead-end, but ended up in a TREASURE! This place is open until at least 2am, sometimes later apparently. They had HUMONGOUS portions, and great variety! There is a meal deal, which I want to say was around $15, which included a choice of main dish (such as roast chicken, lasagna, etc), and two side dishes (potatoes, corn, mac n' cheese, and more), and a large refillable drink. We should have shared, but we had no idea the portions would be so huge. You could share with a spouse, maybe even a spouse and a small child, on one meal. We felt awful how much food we left behind!

They have alcohol for sale there--beers and small bottles of wine--as well as lots of snack convenience items, such as chips and cookies, and bottles of soda. After the hot food section closes, apparently the rest of the grab n' go items are still available 24 hours.

This is a fairly short walk from either BW or BC/YC, and if you need a late night bite, I highly recommend it!

We stayed here from 12/12 to 12/16. While it was very nice we practically had to beg for our room to be cleaned. Mousekeeping would come and make the bed - not fully mind you. They did not even put the pillows back on. They did not vaccume and the did not empty out the coffee pot each day. We were in 3228 and the view was very nice. It was a very quite room. However, I felt it was a far walk from the main pool and the bakery. We were stuck at DW due to the weather and had to stay additional nights. We switched to CSR and to be honest were much happier there and the mousekeeping was much better. The rooms are beautiful but when we asked the kids ( 7 and 16 ) which pool they prefered they said CSR. When asked which resort they said the beds are nicer at Boardwalk but the food, pool and they felt location was better at CSR.

None of the deluxe rooms have a king bed - they all have two queens (plus the sleeper sofa). There are a couple of standard club rooms with a king bed.

FYI, you do not get the paper on the weekends, you only get them Monday thru Friday, so if you were there the 12-16 that would be correct, you would have only got the paper on Monday morning.

One other thing, did you ever call to ask about mousekeeping?

I was at the BWI from the 10th thru the 16th and had no issues at all.

Yes, no newspapers on Saturday or Sunday since USAToday does not publish on those days (I wish they would give the local paper instead for movie times and such, but that is another topic)
