The Biggest Gouge at Disneyworld

What type of batteries do you use. I went buy some at Target, left them in the charger overnight and the charger blew up so I am on my 2nd set of batteries
I use the lithium batteries.

Childrens' cold medicine at Everything Pop- it would have cost about $5 at home- $13!!! I ended up having to buy 2 bottles of that and a pkg of adult cold medicine, too. DH and DD got killer colds!!

I got one those little $100 suitcases at the gift shop at the Boardwalk Inn. We didn't plan enough suitcase space for souvenirs and bought this, late in the evening before our departure, on an emergency basis. Could have gotten a whole set of the same quality at any good department store for that amount of money. It wouldn't have the Mickey logo on it, tho

we had to buy those too on our first day but dh loved them and now will only buy that brand/type...

I think the 40 bucks for the dress up shoes were a killer but we had to have matching shoes don't ya know... princess:

ugh. my nice little 75$ polaroid digital camera I got before my last trip didn't have a rechargeable battery. I have spent 45$ already on batteries.

You can just buy rechargeable batteries (and their charger) from eBay for no more than $20 including shipping, y'know.

My big price gouge is the 5.00 price of a bottle of regular beer at the food courts. We head right to Goodings and lay in a good supply for the vacation.

As to the 100.00 suit case for souviners, we solved that problem by having Disney ship our stuff home, if it arrives broken we have an outlet by claiming damage to UPS or Disney directly, but have never had a problem and its one less bag to haul around. Even at maybe 20 bucks to ship a big box its still cheaper than a suitcase.

On a cold, rainy day over Christmas in 2004, we decided to ditch the parks and just hole up in the hotel room. My 14 yo dd was dying for something to do while we watched movies and decided a coloring book and crayons was just the ticket. We found a coloring book at an ok price (well, for WDW) but the only crayons they had were in the shapes of princesses and cost $12! So, basically, I spent $12 for crayons. Being at WDW makes us lose our minds, I think. :lmao:

That would be my $22 sunglasses, purchased at the GF gift shop to replace the ones I lost on Soarin.' Believe me, they're the sort you find at the $1 Store. The woman asked if I wanted a bag or if I'd just wear them - I asked how she knew I wanted to wear them and she said "Nobody would pay $22 for sunglasses if they didn't really need them." Oh, there was also the $4 box of feminine hygiene products - only 10 in the box!

I have 3:

ponchos costing like $7

underwater disposable camara at TL for $22

viking hat in Norway for DS $12 (saw the same one in the $1 store when we got home!)

But, still love Disney

Got in late to Pop Century one night and was too pooped to walk to the food court (they almost had me in another state, my room was so far!). I ordered pizza, even though I was warned how gross it was. I didn't care. I was hungry.

Ordered one delivered pizza (it only came in large) from the hotel, two cans of Coke and plus the tip. Total price: $40! :sad2: And I only ate 1 1/2 pieces -- forced most of it down because, as I was warned, it was gross. :teeth:

Oh, and by the way, I believe the box would have tasted better! :goodvibes

Biggest Gouge - The pins! I bet even Disney can't believe how much they're making off those little bits of tin.

I found the bottled water quite reasonable at WDW. Food overall is fairly reasonable, especially considering it's a major resort. Compared to a ballpark, Disney is giving the stuff away!

My dd got an unexpected suprise at Disney on our last trip so I found myself buying pads from the little shop in the Polonesian. I don't remember the price now but I remember being shocked.

Film & video tapes for our camera. I dont remember the exact price, but boy does Disney stick it to their suckers...uh...I mean guests on that one.

Also diapers! YIKES! I can buy an entire pack at home (the big 60+ pack) for the price Disney charges for one of those little 10 or 20 pack ones! This time I am packing more diapers & Pull ups then I think I will need, just to be sure!

$4 tube of sunscreen runs about $14 at the parks. i count it as my stupid tax. That purchase made me a much better planner for the next trip. I will also add the highspeed internet connection at $10/day is something every Days Inn gives away for free. What are you gonna do? It's a free market. As long as the market supports the prices, WDW will keep charging them.

I have to agree! I do not think(and I hope that) I will never find myself paying WDW $10 a day for internet access. That's just a bit crazy!

Sunglasses, $20, to replace DD's (she forgot them at home). They were very cheap and broke about the fourth day.

Beer in EPCOT WS ------- $7.50 a pint!!
Get pitchers if you can they are $12
When I was at one of the resorts, the one you camp at they have a buffet there, the guys name is Gary, great guy full of tips of stuff to do, and he told me about the difference in price, he kind of hinted we looked like we needed more than just one cup

Mine was a $50 t-shirt with Minnie all beaded and sparkly as the Statue of Liberty. I really had to justify that one to myself. It's a stinking shirt.
