the biggest budget buster of our trip is......

Threads like these really make me want to build a doggie hotel at my house.

I know, right? :scared1:

We were also looking at an outrageous bill to board our 2 dogs, but we just found a college student who will stay at our house & take care of the dogs for much cheaper. It's crazy when the kennel bill is almost as much as your hotel bill!!

Just for fun, check out this place and the prices. You can order a daily steak dinner... :rotfl:

It costs more than when I stay at the Comfort Inn LBV for a few nights before I check into my timeshare! :rotfl2:

Actually those are REALLY nice and not badly priced. :lmao: Here is the place our two go to. We have to pay extra for SOCIAL PLAY with other dogs. Looks like the place above gets it in their price.

And don't discount how difficult it is to find a place where you're willing to leave your dog! So many places just have them sit in tiny cages (on concrete) all day long with only short bathroom breaks.

Exactly!

We went through 3 kennels back in virgina before we found one that was acceptable.

We were lucky with this one. It was recommended by someone from our synagogue and with our dogs, if we find somewhere that they dont mind being and that treats them well, we dont want to change that.

Lizzie, our 11 year old dog who is sick, went through 3 homes in nine months. She was neglected and abused in those 9 months. Unfortunately, even after about 10 years, she is still very skittish and she gets scared very very easily.

Yofi, our 7 year old dog, spent almost 6 months basically locked in a cage at a kennel when they couldnt take care of him anymore. Hes not as skittish as lizzie but he still does get scared very easily. He is also a very difficult dog in general

At our kennel they:
have indoor/outdoor runs
toys (tennis balls, bones, squeak toys). Each dog is given new toys when they are brought in and they are replaced as needed
walked at least 3 times a day (sometimes more depending on how busy they are)
played with twice a day (fenced in play area)
come home nice and clean :) they get a bath the night before they get picked up

When we left them one time, we had a really bad thunderstorm. Lizzie gets so scared to the point where she cries and shakes. Well, one of teh owners of the kennel took lizzie out of the run and brought her into the front office with her so that she wouldnt be as scared. That's the type of treatment that is woth the money.

Also, they keep them in the same run (they do better together) but they feed them apart (they cant eat together) and they also take them on walks and paytime without other dogs (they dont always play well with others).

We have high needs dogs that unfortuantely cost us a lot. We wouldnt trade them for anything. We love them. But dang they are expensive!!! haha

$75 a night?? that's insane!! It's $20 a night here for 2 dogs in a shared kennel. It was $10 for the cat and that included her meds!! I just cannot see paying $75 for boarding the dogs, that's just insane. Our kennel is our trainer, they are great with the dogs and the dogs love it there.

Unfortunately, everything in our area is expensive. This was just one of those shockers because we have never left them for this long before. We havent left them at this kennel for more than 6 nights, so adding the 3 more nights just kind of made us go:eek:

My dad always jokes that we moved from a high COL area, across the country to a ridiculously high COL area.

Ever since our last trip this past September, we are both looking forward to and dreading our January trip because we will be boarding our cats. Previously, we relied on both of our Mothers taking turns to go to our house and feed them and change the litter. On our last trip, my Mom 'forgot' to go and refused to go after I called her around dinner time to see how they were. My sister also refused to go, and I wound up having to wait until 1am to ask my Dad to go on his way home from work (and I had to walk him through the whole process step by step...ugh). My family proved to be incredibly unreliable, and I can't ask my husband's Mother to go every day because she lives 30 mins away..my family lives a few blocks away. Our vet charges $20 a day per cat. Ugh. I hate money.

Hi,everyone! Have you looked into the new kennels atWDW? Best Friends opened a beautiful new kennel on Bonnet Creek Parkway. It's got a dog park with fountains, trails... and lots of different options. We took our little furry guys with us for the first time, and they had a great time. We were able to put them in a suite together, so we saved some $$ there (but spent it on lots of cute souvenirs for our fur babies, oops!;). I'm a newbie poster to this Disney Board site (but did LOTS of reading before our trip!), so I can't post links, but just look up
