Had to hit Traget yesterday for a few things for our vacation next week. But I scored, everything was on sale so I ended up only spending $36. I think that is the lowest I have ever spent in Target!!

Some other good money news, a family member owed me some money and while I knew eventually I would get it, I wasn't counting on it because I just didn't know when she would bother giving it to me. Well, last night she dropped it off!!! Yeah! SInce we are doing so well with our budget, I think I might use it to pay off one bill we have slowly been paying (a med bill from a recent ER visit). Very happy about this!!!

Ok folks, have a great weekend and since I won't be around next week, enjoy!!

i have been browsing this thread for months a i must say i have been much better with managing my money and although i do not itemize on paper what we spend i know that we are spending much less on nonessential items. i do however feel guilt over spending $80.00 on dinner last night, although it was a family birthday treat. i kept thinking what i could by at the food market for that money. i even bought a birthday cake for $15.00 and feel guilty about that. i would never even have given it a thought before reading the no-buy thread. oh well, i will have to cut back on something else. we are saving to go on another (our 3rd) disney cruise next year and trying to save by not spending on nonessential things. so i was wondering, how many of you feel this type of money guilt.

Daisy- I have money guilt every single time I do something for myself, like a haircut or a pedicure. I also feel guilty now if I don't have a good grocery trip- like I really need stuff that I don't have coupons for- but I feel like I failed if I buy stuff at full price, for lack of a better way to put it.

Backstory- I am 48 years old. 10 years ago hubby and I were both making great money and had no reason to believe it would change. We are both in technology and they were predicting technology would continue to be a booming industry until at least the year 2020.

Well, by the end of 2001, we had both been laid off. He got another job, but I had to work 3 part time jobs to cover my end, and I was not covering it very well. Started using credit cards just to live.

We regretted the money we had previously spent thoughtlessly- the Disney trips on credit cards, Vegas twice in a year, eating lunch out almost every day, tons of money spent on kids gifts, clothes, etc.

Well, things stablized and then it happened again- DH got laid off last year and we ended up moving from Chicago to Tampa and taking huge losses on everything. We are now renting out the Chicago house at a loss and paying for kids college, cars and car insurance on less money than we had ever made before.

We have learned a lot, tho, and we enjoy ourselves, but frugally. We coupon, use restaurant.com, go to cheap events, pay for season passes to the amusement parks on the monthly plan, shop at the flea market, etc.

I need to get to somewhere in between how I was when I was younger, and now. I need to learn how to not feel guilty if I spend a little enjoying myself.

Not sure when I will be able to buy something without feeling bad about it, but yes, it is normal to have money guilt. Not letting it consume you is the trick.
