The big G+ rides at HS gone by 1:07!

In the last 5-10 years there has been little change and what change has occurred has been slow (Epcot = Remy and Frozen (malstrom same ride), MK - 7DMT/Little mermaid, AK - Avatar/Navi, DHS - MMRR, ROR, MF, ?TSM/SDD.

Always wondered when World showcase would add countries. Other than Remy/and Malstrom facelift it hasnt changed in decades nor has futureworld which is essentially overlooked by many ( yes GG is being made). MK is pretty much unchanged in a decade besides 7DMT (tron coming) and the closing of snow white. AK - has added the 2 awatar rides and has otherwise not changed in decades. DHS has made the most changes and reason it is so busy.

It may not feel that way but actually, a lot has been added in the past 5-10 years.

  • The entire new Fantasyland area at MK with 7DMT, Ariel, Storytime with Belle, new Dumbo, Be our guest, etc...
  • The huge Star Wars land and Toy Story lands at HS with RoTR, MFSR, SDD, Alien saucers, restaurants, etc..
  • Pandora at AK with FOP, Navi, Satu'li canteen, etc...
  • Epcot has the least with Remy, the Soarin extra theater and Space 220, but significant work is happening there now.

we went last year for the first time, stayed at the GF, and my sons favorite part of the trip by leaps and bounds was the pool - and it’s not even close. He spent most of the time in the parks asking when we could leave and go to the pool. I’m glad he loved that area but agree Disney definitely failed to capture his enjoyment with the lack of magic. My daughter enjoyed the parks and pools equally but definitely wasn’t bummed to leave the parks each day and return to the resort.

I think that's just the age. Both of my kids (who are tween/teen now) vastly preferred the pool at age 4/5. And that was back in the FP+ heyday with super easy rider swaps. They really weren't having to wait in many lines and they still preferred the pool.

Yes! And coloring those Duffy fans at the Kidcots! 😂

I definitely remember those days, including the Duffy fans! But, I'll tell ya, at least for my kids, all of that early brainwashing touring as youngsters has led them to be pretty big fans of the parks, even as tween/teens. Upcoming trip is DD's 9th, 6th for the boys. And they are excited to go.

yes mine are now ride obsessed, and still love the pool. But back then they would beg to leave the parks for the pool!

So it’s 10:38 on Friday 3/4. Still decent availability because the 11:00 onslaught hasn’t hit. Standbys are 90-120 minutes for everything and Star Tours is 45 which is saying something. Rise and TsMM are currently down.

Hours are still 9-9.

I don’t think I can convince my husband to go there if we can only bank on 2 good genie pluses and 105 minute waits for other things we want to do. And I can’t say I blame him :(

There’s always next time right?
Hopefully things will improve over the next year or so.

Part of the problem may be they don’t have “extra” CMs and can’t burn out the ones they do have. Just speculation. Hopefully once fantasmic is back that will help evening crowds
I mean a family of 4 who buy genie + fund a 4 hour shift paying 15$ an hour. if 1/3 are paying this.. they can afford to pay 17+ and hour and people will wanna work for them again.. idk just my 2c

I think if it was allowed for 30 days out for all guests that would be a decent product. Everyone has a level playing field.

The problem with just going back to how it was is you can't charge the same cost for FP+ onsite and offsite because with the 60+ advantage for onsite you're not getting the same product. And charging less for offsite obviously isn't an option because then you're making it an advantage to stay offsite in that way.

The 7 am doesn't bother me because I'm always up that early on park days but I can see how people wouldn't like that if they want to sleep in.
Be thankful you aren’t using G+ at DLR, where everyone has to be tapped into the park before they can book a LL to start the day. At least at WDW, only one or two people have to get up for 7am bookings.

Of course that depends on someone’s touring style. I would greatly prefer that.

That makes it more like the original paper FP system, which I think would actually work better than the current procedures. Of the the three versions there have been (original paper FPs, FP+, and now G+/LL) I still think the original worked best.

For me, FP+ was the best and it's not even close. Did it give an advantage to on-site guests? Yes it did. but, they SHOULD get an advantage since they pay the super-inflated resort prices. I only want to be in a certain section of a park once per day. With the original FP, a runner (usually me) would have to walk to the back of Tomorrowland to get a Space FP, catch back up with the group, likely in a totally different part of the park, and then head back over to Space 3-4 hours later to ride. That's not even the slightest bit efficient. With FP+, I knew 60 days in advance when I needed to be in Tomorrowland, and I could plan my whole day around that. Now, Genie has taken that away. Even if my time stays with what I selected (no guarantee), I don't have 60 days to come up with a touring plan. I have a couple of hours in the morning on that same day.

Demand More. Demand Better.

Much better day at DHS today. Everything available at 1:00 except Rise, Slinky, and Tower of Terror.

Unfortunately, next week with DHS at capacity will be a different story from today.
That’s awesome to hear. Will be helpful to monitor over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully Disney will be learning and tweaking over the next few weeks to help their guests have a better experience.

We were at DHS on Saturday. We got everything we wanted...it was actually easy. We ended up with this:

Rope Drop:
RnRC
ToT

LLs:
9:25am MFSR (grabbed at 7am)
7:25pm SDD (grabbed after tapping into MFSR, around 9:40am)
5:05pm TSM (grabbed 11:40am)
7:55pm ToT (grabbed 1:45pm)
5:xxpm AlienSS (grabbed 3:45pm)
6:15pm ST (grabbed right before we rode, just because we could)

ILL:
RotR grabbed at 8:57am, return time 7:15pm (we weren't planning on doing this ride again, but decided to when we saw it was still available)

At some point we still could have still grabbed MMRR but we didn't really like that ride and opted for other choices.

Our takeway is that you REALLY have to be lucky on being there at a non-crazy-busy day. I don't know if that's easily predicted anymore, but that's truly the only way to make it work. It's still hard to juggle your plans in real time every 2 hours.

Thank you for reporting this! It looked like things were not quite as bad on Saturday- I’m glad you had a great day! Your plan is a good one…. I think getting an early LL return so you can get your next one before the 11:00 madness would work well.

I agree. I wish I'd taken note of the return times for the other rides after tapped in at 9:40am. It was a surprise to see SDD and the return worked perfect because were coming back later (we had an 8:15pm Oga's reservation) so obviously I grabbed that immediately. If SDD wasn't available, I suspect the return times for other rides may have been too early. It's possible ToT would have been later because of their reduced capacity. I think I had to refresh a few times to find a ToT return time when I grabbed that one.
