The best "worst movie of the year"

The Ruins. It was on cable last night and DH and I watched it. It was sooooooooooooooooooooo bad, but I kind of liked it. The movie had such a "campy" feel and was kind of like a B rated horror flick.

I loved this movie. I just ordered it from Amazon two days ago. Apparently, the blu ray is an unrated version of the film with an alternate ending that is much darker than the theatrical version. I can't wait to see this version.

I love this movie too!!!! Uh oh, looks like I may have to get that blu-ray just to see the other ending.

You'll be happy to know that there are in fact three endings on the blu ray. The unrated version contains the ending that I described. In the bonus features there are two other versions. One is the theatrical ending and the other is an even darker ending than the one included on the unrated version (according to reviews).

For me it was Taking Woodstock. First, I was expecting it to be alot better than it was. I usually like Ang Lee movies & I thought this one was pretty cheesy and just not good. Secondly, we were watching it in the movies with a very homophobic couple and their comments and attitude totally ruined it for us. :(

I've seen a few threads asking about what everybody's favorite or best movie was this year. I'm wondering, what is everybody's favorite bad movie of the year. This would be a movie that you know is bad, but enjoyed it anyway. For me, it was Year One with Jack Black and Michael Cera. I know the two of them play essentially the same character in every movie that they are in, but for some reason, I laughed the whole way through.

I'll agree with Year One. So stupid, but you had to laugh anyway! I just don't get the PG-13 rating though. I watched it with DS 13 and I regretted it - thought it should have maybe been rated R...?

Oh no :)...I wonder if you can rent that version? I know I wouldn't watch it enough to make it worth the cost, but I really really want to see the dark endings!!!!!!!!!! I hate happy endings in horror movies.

I'm with you on that one. That's exactly why I love movies like The Mist. I like to be shocked at the ending.

I guess you are talking about the feeble first attempts at french kissing, or possibly a half naked/gold painted Michael Cera having to give rub downs to a hairy high priest. I personally don't think it went beyond PG-13 material. It was perfect for my son, as he has a very twisted sense of humor.

I had expected to hate this movie as I generally don't like stupid comedy but I admit, I've got a thing for Paul Blart now.

You aren't the only one. Both my 13 yr. old daughter and I have a thing for Paul Blart. (Normally we like our men- in shape a la Taylor Launter-my daughter or Christian Bale-me). Something about his sweetness or maybe's it the Segway:cutie:

I had no desire to see it, but I think I'm going to give Paul Blart a try after reading all of these glowing reviews.

That one was shocking alright. That one however, really disturbed me, I was in a funk for awhile after that movie ended! I guess they made their point. That was not at all how the book ended, which made it even more shocking.

I felt the same way. I did feel that the movie improved on the book's ending. I have read maybe a dozen or so Stephen King novels. While I enjoy reading them, I feel his endings in several books are a bit weak.

Now, if you really want to be shocked and disturbed, see Funny Games. I couldn't eat for the rest of the day after seeing that. I was in shock. The amazing thing about that movie was that the director photographed it in such a way that you never see one second of violence on film. It all happens off screen, and it is the most horrifying thing you will ever "not see".

Ok, note to self, find Funny Games...

Another Paul Blart lover here. I saw that it was free on Starz demand a few months ago so I had nothing to do on a saturday night and ordered it. It was so much better than I expected it to be.

I think the OP is looking for Horrible movies you secretly LIKED...not the ones you really hated.

Bruno
Year One
Land of the Lost
and yeah, I'll toss a little love to New Moon. That movie was stupid, but compared to Twilight, it was Citizen Kane.

oh...well darn.....i don't have one lol. either all of the movies i've seen i've liked, or didn't like. there weren't any that i "secretly" liked :guilty:

As I continue to show my bad taste in cinema, I would be remiss if I did not mention The Knowing. It received terrible reviews and I loved it. I ordinarily abide by the rule of not seeing any film that features Nicolas Cage and his many hair pieces. My son forced me to sit through this one. To my amazement, the presence of Mr. Cage did not make the film unwatchable. In fact, he was quite adequate in his role. The story was excellent. It had a great ending. This film turned out to be a nice surprise for me.
