2 months and counting until my first visit to Disneyland

I'd love it if you could help me decide what rides we should aim for........

What is your favourite ride?

is it suitable for a timid 8 year old & a thrill seeking 6 year old?

& would you recommend it for someone with a "less than perfect back"?

Most of the thrill rides will have a warning that if you have back or neck problems you shouldn't ride it. With that said, I have back and neck problems and I ride them all or have tried them at least. You have to exercise proper judgement as to what you can handle and then be willing to accept responsibility for that decision.
I would recommend Splash Mountain as an easy to ride for the back, thrill ride for timid and thrill seeking people. (Wear a poncho so you don't get soaked.) I also love  Indiana Jones & BTMRR. I don't like Star Tours or Space Mountain. :duck: I get sick or headaches from them. I like HTOT at DCA, Soaring, and GRR (wear a poncho). My DS loves Cali Screaming. I get sick/headaches on that one so I don't ride it.
Have fun!

Yeah, my favorite rides wouldn't fit for a back that is less than perfect like Indy, Space, Matterhorn, and BTM.
Some fun ones that I like that are semi-"thrilling" that you can do w/ your kids would be POTC, Casey Jr., JC (I don't know if you'd consider that "thrilling" but you do go in some pretty "dangerous" rivers ;)), and Peter Pan is always fun bc you get to fly!

When I went with my boys 6 and 4 their favorite was Splash and Big Thunder.

When we went back a couple years later with boys 10, 8 and 5 year old daughter. The daughter loved Space. Splash was still fun, they enjoyed Big Thunder, Indy was fun, but might be a little scary for the timid 8yo.

My boys of 10 and 8 said their favorite from the most recent trip was Screamin at CA, but you asked for DL.

The best thrill ride at DL: Space Mtn. If you have a bad back, I would avoid Indy.

Best ride at DCA: Toy Story Midway Mania! This new ride ROCKS! It is the most fun I have EVER EVER EVER had on any attraction. But Screamin and ToT are probably more "thrilling/scary", and I would say both would be fine with slight back problems.

Splash Mountain is our family favorite(but really we love them all) and maybe on our upcoming trip I will be able to keep my eyes open during the big drop! But I doubt it!

I just went on the new Toy Story Mania at California Adventures. In the words of Crush, "It so totally rocks!" They really to Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster to the next level. My husband and I are grown up video game junkies so we liked the game aspect, it was fun and entertaining but my 1 year old daughter was amused by it too. Now if you were looking just at Disneyland proper, Indy is the best thrill ride, IMO, but as others have said it has a warning for your back!

Oh and most of the big rides have fastpass, as you probably know, so take advantage of those!

Yesss, Pirates and Peter Pan. Would Splash Mountain be bad for the back? If not, then Splash Mountain too especially during the heat!
and in California Adventure, definitely Soarin' California!:thumbsup2

Space Mountain wouldn't be too bad for a timid 8yo i don't think... my 4 yr old went on it for the first time... and then there's Matterhorn, for them, my 2 yo went on it... I don't know how rough it is tho on the back... but those are faves!::yes::
Definitely not Indy for your back, tho the kiddos would love that! (sorry!)

Visually---- Pirates and Haunted Mansion

Excitement --- Space Mtn. I also love Splash too.

Not sure yet about DCA. My first visit there is in August! But I know that Tower is my fave at DHS, so I would guess Tower and Cali Screamin' will be my fave. Curious too about Toy Story!

We loved Indy - even my mother was okay on it but I would ease up to it for your 8 yo.

Pirates is something everyone can enjoy.

For thrills- love theming of Big Thunder.

Monsters at DCA is really well done too.

Haunted Mansion, Disneyland Railroad, Jungle Cruise, USS Columbia are sentimental favorites.

Fun favorites are Indy, Matterhorn, Space Mtn., Thunder Mtn. and Splash Mtn.

Cal Adventure I really like Tower of Terror, Soarin, Cal Screamin', Mulholland Madness and Grizzly River Run. Monsters Inc too.

The kids may love the Bug's Life area, check it out and enjoy the details all around from a bug's perspective. See as many shows as you can too, they are for the most part all good at both parks.
