Last May, our DD was 5, and our DS was 3 (almost 4). We tried the following character meals:
Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern - Characters are Goofy, Minnie, Chip, Dale, & Pluto. Character interaction was wonderful! Food is served family-style - roast beef, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, mac & cheese, dressing, declaration salad w/ strawberry vinaigrette (yummy!), rolls, & apple cobbler. Everything except the mac & cheese was really good. The atmosphere of the restuarant is nice too - cool & relaxing. We had a great server as well.
Princess Storybook Dinner at Akershus (Norway) in Epcot - We saw the following princesses: Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella (not normally at Akershus), & Jasmine. Character interaction was excellent - even better than at Cinderella Royal Table. The inside of the restaurant is lovely too - very "country" castle. However, we did not care for the food at all - DH's fish was lukewarm; my pasta was dried out & "clumpy". However, I think the menu has changed a bit since last May, and we could have been there on an "off" night. This year, we're trying breakfast instead.
Lunch at Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom - Characters are Pooh & Friends. Character interaction was really good - except we had to wait forever to see Pooh. The buffet selections were so yummy - traditional buffet items w/ some not-so-traditional items as well. The mandarin orange vinaigrette salad dressing was delicious! And the corn pudding, spoon bread, frittata, & bread pudding were great as well. The inside of the restaurant is so pretty - w/ some great views of the castle.
Breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table - We saw the following princesses: Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Mary Popins, Snow White, & Wendy from Peter Pan. The Fairy Godmother was in the lobby. (The CRT meals have changed a bit this year, however. Cinderella is in the lobby for all 3 meals, and the other princesses circulate among the tables for breakfast & lunch. The Fairy Godmother & Suzy & Perla are there at dinner.) We enjoyed our meal, and the character interaction was nice as well - though a bit rushed. This year, we're trying lunch at CRT.
Breakfast at Chef Mickey's - To me, this is the quintessential Disney dining experience! The monorail running above the restaurant is very cool & exciting for kids. There are singalongs & napkin-twirling too. The following characters are normally there for breakfast: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy (in the lobby), Pluto, Chip, & Dale. On the day we were there, Mickey was extremely rushed - but all the other characters were really good. The buffet has typical buffet breakfast items.
Last May, we also ate at the following non-character restaurants:
Breakfast at Trail's End at Fort Wilderness - We were staying in a cabin at FW, so we wanted to try Trail's End. Typical buffet items - but fresh & hot. Very good value here as well.
Dinner at Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge - yummy! Perfect ending to our day at Animal Kingdom! There are plenty of selections on the buffet - even for picky eaters & for children. The AKL is gorgeous, & the castmembers are so friendly!
Dinner at Hollywood & Vine at MGM for a Fantasmic Dinner Package - Of all the places at which we ate, this was our least favorite. The hot items on the buffet were cool, and the cold items on the buffet were warm. Many of the selections looked "dried out", & we were there fairly early in the evening (6:00 pm). The tables are extremely close together - you feel like you're sitting w/ the people next to you. And the restaurant is very noisy - but not a fun kind of noisy. This year, we're trying Mama Melrose's for our FDP.
Dinner at 'Ohana at the Poly - yummy! This was our last evening meal - beautiful view of the castle. Cocunut & hula hoop races make it a fun atmosphere for the kids as well.
Our favorite counter service restaurants were Columbia Harbor House in the Magic Kingdom, Sunshine Seasons at Epcot (Future World), Toy Story Pizza Planet at MGM, Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom, & Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney.
