Sunday is AK morning and has been a tradition with us since the park opened and is always preceeded by breakfast a RFK. Call us boaring but we have the same breakfast every year - Benedict Bamba. What we like about this breakfast is that the eggs are always perfectly poached, the english muffins are never under cooked and the hollandaise never has too much lemon in it. Another plus is that I'm a fussy breakfast potato eater and Joe dislikes them all together but we both love these. A good, hot cup of coffee and were reday for the day.
Diner tonight is Flying Fish and we were pleased to see that the menu had changed some what this year. It wasn't even the same as on Deb's site. We recieved our seats at the bar as requested and I was amazed that at 7 o'clock it wasn't as busy as expected. I chose a glass of Cosentino "The Novelist" from the Alternative White List and Joe ordered a Fees Parker Santa Barbara Riesling to go with my Thi Chichen Consomme and his Ahi Tuna Tartare. My consomme was light but full of flavor with oven dried mushrooms fresh herbs and marinated tofu. Although I detected a hint of lemongrass it was not mentioned on the menu.
Joe's Tartare was the star, served with miso dressing, sesame crackers, pickled red cababge and tobinko caviar. A true winner.
My entree was the Roasted Alaska Halibut, served with baby bok choy, ****ake mushrooms and braised leeks in lemngrass tea. I chose the suggested wine pairing of Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc. Fabulous flavors with the right balance of textures. Joe's entree was the Potato Wrapped Red Snapper with creamy leek fondue in a red wine butter sauce. He also selected the suggested wine. Ch. Ste. Michelle Canoe Ridge Estete Merlot. No surpises here, It's one of his favorite meals.
As a side note: Several Jumbo Prawns and a Timbale of Hearts of Palm quietly foud their way in front of us. One of the perks of Bar Eating. We had much interaction with the staff and Chefs. A fablous meal to end (well not quite) a fablulos day.
