The Berg-Berts do WDW, Part 30 – Closing Thoughts

Lacto - I sooo loved this venue in the past. Many moons ago, we had a ball there.

Sorry you had to miss out. But I can presume this little interaction on your past trip was full on funny.

That darn Dre, getting sick and making you miss a French maid :lmao:

Sorry you missed out Todd.

I remember when it was just Pleasure Island, not like it is today. We haven't made it there since the kids. Mainly just the shops and restraurnts.

Sounds like fun though. Maybe next time I will check it out.

So we watch Lisa wander out of the room for some unknown location with some unknown person. And I eat my sandwich. And mope. I hate missing out on O’hana. And the possibility of the Adventurer’s Club. I like the Adventurer’s Club. Mostly because it fits my sense of humor. And when we went before, I was the source of much joking and ridicule. It was great.

Flash back time. Lisa, her brother, and I were out on a grownup night out. #1S was in the one of the kid’s clubs. And we went to O’hana for dinner. Then we went over to Pleasure Island. For those who may not know, Pleasure Island is the grownups Magic Kingdom. It is the club district of Walt Disney World. When we went there 15 or so clubs that you could find more grownup entertainment. Dancing, music, and comedy were the focus. Oh and booze.

But I don’t do that. Seriously.

I had read about the Adventurer’s Club online. It was really interesting sounding. So I convinced the rest of my party to give it a whirl. Brother-in-law had another place he wanted to visit. So we took in the AC first. The AC is built with the ground level as the second floor. You have to go down stairs to really be “in” the club. There are small rooms that branch off the main salon. Periodically, the cast performs little vignettes in different rooms of the club. Much of it is scripted but there is a lot of audience interaction that makes it sort of an improvisational comedy club. Only it is themed like a 1930’s adventure club. It’s like where Indiana Jones would hang his leather coat and whip up on a peg and tell stories of his latest archaeological pursuit.

Well, we arrived just as one of the vignettes was beginning. It was taking place in the Treasure Room. Come to find out, it was a séance. Well the three of us tried to slip in, as inconspicuous as possible. But we had to sit on the seats right in the middle of the room. The cast member, who was a French maid, complete with feather duster and short dress, was leading the séance. But she needed a volunteer. She began to look around the room. But she knew there was only one person that would work. Me.

Maybe it was the bald head. Or the simple, slack jawed expression on my face that said, “Pick this Redneck”. Whatever it was, she zeroed in on me. And picked me for her mark. Of course she had to ask the standard interaction questions. What’s your name? Todd. Where you from? Oklahoma. What do you do?

Now here is an interesting moment. A French maid conducting a séance in a very well themed bar asking me what I do for a living. I said, “I’m a plumber.”

Not really. I told the truth. Straight faced even. Cause I knew it would be a riot. “I’m a pastor.” Well that opened the door for sure. There were giggles. But they only got worse. For my part in the séance, I had to put on this outrageously ugly hat. It was, in all probability, one of those straw baskets that you put flowers in with the ugly plastic flower on the front. And I had to sing some goofy song. It was the Indian Love Call. Of course, I had no clue how it went. But that didn’t matter. The joke was pretty well rolling anyway.
After we left from the séance, we wandered around to the Library and watched another vignette after which, we decided to leave out for the other club. We walked around the back way and Lisa stepped into the rest room. I was standing by the entry into the Main Salon when another character comes up behind me. I didn’t see her. But she announces to the hostess, “Look what I found in the Men’s room.” Then the French Maid appears and says, “Oh yeah, that’s Pastor Todd. We met earlier.” It seems that my most humbling moments come at the hands of women.

So you can see why I was totally bummed out about not going back. I love that place.
Thanks for this tip. This place sounds right up my alley! I was not familiar with the AC until reading this installment here now. I can just imagine how hysterical it was having you participate. You would make an excellent straight man, Todd! I want to tell you that I do know Indian Love Call. I have heard several versions of it. Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy did a beautiful version of it set in the Canadian mountains in the 40s. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez sang another version that I suspect sounded much like your version. :rolleyes Had I know about your plans to go here, I would have tried to invite myself to join and your lovely bride at least for part of it....Sorry you missed out. I know this must have been terribly disappointing.

You know I love your writing. These installments continue to amuse me a great deal. Keep up the great work.
:teeth:

Stop doing spell check before you copy and paste here. I like busting you up. :teeth: :teeth:

Just bumping you back to the first page....... :wave2:

Happy Sunday. Know you are kind of busy.... :goodvibes

Whew......finally all caught up! Keep it comin'!

So with a full on mope happening I got the boys ready and we left for the Polynesian. We had decided that even if Lisa was miserable, the boys should still get to enjoy their evening. We caught the bus to the TTC (that’s Transportation and Ticket Center). The Poly(nesian) is just a short hike down a trail from there. We walked and talked and looked at scenery along the way. And then we arrived at the Neverland Club.

You may have seen the drop off centers in malls or even day cares have them. This is a kid’s paradise and parent’s dream. You walk in, sign your kids in, get a pager, and leave without them. They stay there. We like these. This one is a drop off center but tricked out. And our boys love Peter Pan, so this one really lights their world.

You enter a reception area with a desk and attendant. The reception area is themed as the nursery.

nlc2.jpg

There is a door and a window. But the window is not an outside window. It is an open window into another room. And it is at floor level. And that is how the kids get into the club. They go through the window. Just like Peter Pan. There is a Pirate ship for video games.

nlc1.jpg

There is a large screen for movies. There are arts and crafts areas.

nlc6.jpg

They get supper in there.

nlc4.jpg

So this is a really neat place for the boys. It is so neat, they didn’t even bother to say “’bye” to me. They got their nametags and took off for the window. Not even a glance backwards. (Special thanks to Intercot for the pictures of the NeverLand Club.)

So, without wife or children, I was alone. And wondering what the heck I was going to do now. Lisa would be back too soon to hop in the MK. And the other parks were too far away. So I decided to monorail around the loop and see the hotels. I was at the Poly. I walked around the lower level and then up to O’hana. And I cancelled our reservation. I thought, “May as well let someone else have our space.” Then I continued around and hopped on the monorail.

I stepped off at the Grand Floridian. This is considered the flagship resort of WDW. It is the top notch, premiere resort. It is close to the MK. It is right on the lake. It is the backdrop for weddings and other special events. And I don’t know if I would stay here. I thought about it before seeing it. But now that I’ve seen the resort, I’m not really struck by it. It doesn’t have the beauty of the Wilderness or Polynesian. It is very plain, in fact. But very upscale in appearance. I wouldn’t stay just because it didn’t seem “Disney” in my mind. It didn’t take me anywhere.

I walked around a bit and jumped back on the monorail. Next stop was the MK. Then off at the Contemporary. I had called Lisa and found out she would be headed back soon. So we wouldn’t be too far apart in arriving. I got back to the room and moped just a little more. Yes, I’m a moper. I wasn’t mad. I didn’t throw a temper tantrum or sull up. Like I would at home. I was just down in the mouth.

When Lisa arrived, she filled me in on the details. She was undiagnosed with strep. Undiagnosed means that the doc who examined her said that he could give her a strep test but it would be $60 more only to have him prescribed the same antibiotics he would prescribe anyway. This would be $60 on top of the $150 ish it cost just to see the doc. And the other $150 ish that it cost to get the antibiotics. So her little jaunt to Urgent Care was over $300. Not counting all the extra little things she picked up at the pharmacy. And the beauty of it: they didn’t accept our insurance.

4 years ago, this would have ruined our vacation. Not just the strep, but the extra expenses. But we have learned much in these last 4 years. We were prepared for this. We had made sure there was money available for an emergency like this. So our vacation didn’t even hiccup because of the medical bill. But the evening had hiccupped because of the strep.

But Lisa was determined not to let it disrupt our evening. She wanted to go do something. We decided to go to Downtown Disney and eat at Planet Hollywood. They accept the dining plan, doncha know? So we hopped on the bus and got over there. We didn’t have too long of a wait. Only about 30 minutes or so. Of course Lisa was miserable the whole time. I was experiencing a bit of sensory overload. It was loud in there. When they finally seated us, we were down on the lowest level right in front of the DJ. We ordered and had a nice meal. But I believe that was the longest time I have ever stayed in a restaurant. We were there close to 2 hours. And really didn’t do anything other than eat.

When we left, we decided to go ahead and get the boys and get to bed. Lisa went back to the Lodge and I went to the Poly. I got the boys out of hock. And we walked back over to the TTC. Along the way, they snacked on their bedtime snacks they got in the Neverland Club, chips and juice. We got on the bus and got back to the room.

Where everyone had a peaceful night's sleep.

This picture is kind of blurry but really captures some of the feeling that evening.

See? I can be a trooper when I wanna be! :teeth:

But oh the pain of a cold Coca-cola! Ouch!

Are the boys holding hands in the hallway?? How sweet!

Very sad...... :sad1: at such a magical place.

The first thing that popped into my head when I read...."what the heck I was going to do now" was Pineapple drinks at the pool. :teeth: :lmao:

And Dre - you get the "Trooper" Award! :mickeybar If that was me I'm sure I would have crawled back in bed!

Loved the picture of the boys at the end of the day! Very cute!

Looking forward to more!

Neverland is a cool place.

I am glad it didn't totally wreck you trip. Been at the clinic took most of our one day. Wasn't fun but you have to do what you have do.

Dre. you sure sound like a trooper to me.

The whole clinic thing wasn't too bad. They told me that the wait time once I got to the clinic was about 2 hours. I waited maybe 10 minutes. The whole time round trip was about 1 1/2 hours. We actually could've made the O'hana reservation, albeit a little late, after all but Todd had no way of knowing this!

I never felt bad, just a sore throat, a very sore throat! I had no intention of wasting our Disney trip in bed! I was still hungry, it just hurt going down! :teeth:

Hope the meds kicked in quick for you!!!
Disney Obsession, it took about 3 days before my sore throat went away. Not quick enough for me but they did take the edge off a little!

I'm telling you, Todd - if you don't have Off Kilter's "Live" CD, that's the next one to get! I enjoy it because a lot of the band members' "schtick" is included along with the songs.

My favorite is Randy singing "watermelon-watermelon-watermelon, watermelon, watermelon-watermelon-watermelon, WATERmelon!"

There are some repeats on the CD from previous CDs, but what's not to love about their version of Amazing Grace?!

I enjoyed seeing the new pics of Lisa and the boys.

:wave2: Dre!

Cheryl - Thank you THANK YOU for this info - I now HAVE to have that CD!!!

Well of course!! :goodvibes Some of your memories just make me lol and tears do roll down my face....

but that "watermelon watermelon comment" that one really made me cry. Its a long story, it involves high school, friends, and one friend that passed away...

I should also mention, well, no maybe not!! :goodvibes

I really didn't think that my TR would move people to tears.

Retch, gag, flee for your very lives - maybe.

Question my sanity and the veracity of my claims at being a minister - more than likely.

May all your memories be filled with joy!

Well, many of MY memories filled with joy involve you and your family, Todd! I feel so bad that you and Dre missed your big night, but it was nice of you to let the boys enjoy their stint at the Neverland, regardless. And, Dre, you were a trooper, no doubt! You and Jami...the sickies!!!

I don't think I like being called a sickie! :confused3 Sounds too much like sicko! :lmao:

Andrew asked about Jay a day or two ago! He made quite an impression on him I believe. He was also singing the Happy Birthday song like he did with Jay! Hahahaha!
