Following on from Nat's thread, we also are having the backroom completely gutted ( it really needed it- never been done since we moved in 7 yrs ago ) I did originally think that it would of been a quick makeover, but after taking the wallpaper off the walls-half the plaster came off with it  its now turned into a major job :headache: Here are the before photos, hoping with fingers and toes crossed that the after photos will be shown before xmas..

I look forward to seeing your 'After' photos Jeanette :wizard: Good Luck for getting it finished in time for Christmas :wizard:

Oh Jeanette - I don't envy you.
I've just lived through 12 months of a major extension and spent 6 months of it sleeping in a caravan! :scared1: The building inspector is hopefully signing it all off as I type.

I hope it's finished for Christmas - we were told by the builders we'd only be in the caravan 6 weeks!

Can't wait to see the after pictures.

good luck in getting finished before christmas :wizard: :wizard:

The plasterer will be coming here tomorrow to make a start, so thats something!
I'm also looking forward to seeing the after photos because at the minute i cant see it happening at all!!!
(reminder to my self- if we ever move - buy a newer house..)

thats the problem isn't it, the plaster is just so old ! it looks lovely when its newly plastered though ;)

Looking forward to seeing it when it's finished :thumbsup2

Looking forward to the after pics Netty - it's a lovely-sized room and I can imagine it will be beautiful when it's done.

Like Joh says, a lovely size room.

I love the way you've re-hung your mirror etc. after stripping, that the sort of thing I would do....

(reminder to my self- if we ever move - buy a newer house..)

Really? I love a house with features, even if they do come with their problems. We had a lot of our house re-plastered, the plasterer hated us as we still have a lot of original panelling in the hall.
It will look lovely when it's done and it worth the wait:thumbsup2

You'll be suprised how different - and good - it will look when the plasterer has been. :thumbsup2

Can't wait to see it done, isn't it annoying when the plaster comes off, but as Nat said it will be lovely once it's all new plaster :goodvibes

Can't wait too see what it looks like when it's done Jeanette.x.

I totally feel you're pain Jeanette! I am sure you will get it done. ::yes::

We moved 4.5 years ago into a 1930's detached house that had been lived in by an elderly couple for over 30 years......I totally love the house but it has been such hard work to get it how we want it.

We have had walls knocked out all over the place, also removed one of the chimneys which was such a big job.....all the way from the top, through the loft then a bedroom and finally the kitchen! Every wall & ceiling has been replastered and we have replaced everything - Windows, Kitchen, Bathroom, Cloakroom, Ensuite etc. we've even removed an integral garage.....you name it we have done it! :headache:

Anyway we are almost done, just finishing the last bedroom and after that we have a shower room that needs refitting and that's it DONE! Then next year we start on the garden :sad2: and after that redecorating as it will all need doing again! Such a vicious (sp?) circle!!!

Hubby is as I type this laying a wood floor in one of the spare rooms that we are trying to get finished before we go to WDW in 3 weeks. I will post pics too when we have finished the room.

I never noticed that i was just thinking that the poor dog did'nt look very impressed with it all :goodvibes

Looking forward to seeing it finished Jeanette

As others have mentioned before me Jeanette, it's a lovely sized room. I'm sure it will look fantastic when it is all finished. Looking forward to seeing the end result:thumbsup2

Good luck with the project, Jeanette! It's going to look so fab when it's finished - looking forward to the follow-up photos... :goodvibes

Having bought, done up and sold on sooo many houses over the years, we didn't have the energy to do much when we moved here almost 10 years ago. The place desperately needs attention - it's a 1930's house and we love it but TBH it really gives shabby chic a whole new dimension! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

We now have planning permission for a 2 storey extension to the side but I can't face getting involved with builders until Christmas, New Year and our January hols are out of the way. So for the moment we're living with this in our hall...

...the ceiling fell down when we were away in March but as adjacent walls are being knocked down etc etc we thought we'd leave it until our big project starts. I just love the fact there's a gaping hole where the letters on the plate rack spell out "WELCOME"... ;)
