I mentioned this in another posting I made about our 1/11-15 Wonder cruise, but...

A little known fact is that the bar at Palo is "public" - meaning that you don't have to have dinner reservations at Palo in order to go visit the bar.

The view at the bar is as spectacular as the rest of Palo. It's small & quaint - and because few people know that anyone can go there, it's not very busy. It is open only during the regular Palo hours (e.g. it's not open until dinner time - around 6, I believe)

The bartender at the Palo bar on the Wonder is Andrey from Russia. He's a great guy to talk with and mixes the best drinks on the ship! In fact, my wife & I exchanged e-mail adresses wiith Andrey & we've stayed in touch since we got back home (the CM's have computers & internet conenctions available). But one of the things he's mentioned - when we were there & since we got back - is that his bar tends to be very slow because people don't realize that they can come.

So, if you're dining at Palo, I HIGHLY recomend that you get there early & enjoy a drink or 2 at the bar. Or, if you're not dining at Palo but still want to experience the place - and a great bar with a great bar tender - you really should make it a point to go check it out.

Is this only on the Wonder. I don't remember seeing a bar in Palo on the Magic but may have missed it as I wasn't actually looking for it.

There is a bar at Palo on the Magic as well.....Andy

Do they serve appetizers or dessert at the bar? I was thinking that after 2nd seating dinner w/the kids, a nice hot coffee "beverage" would go great w/that dessert I keep reading about!

Yes, please let us know if you can oder dessert and a drink. I do not think we are going to make reservations at Palo because we are taking the 3 day cruise with DD and do not want to miss one of the rotations with her since it is our first cruise but I would love to have dinner with her and then DH and I could go for a drink and dessert later.
thank you!

To be honest, I'm not sure - we didn't ask. I'll send a note to Andrey & find out, though.

A couple other things...

- When you go, tell Andrey that Kathleen & Ed Martin say hi!
- Ask him to whip up one of the Long Beach Iced Tea drinks that he made for me. Don't worry... you're not driving home!

I didn't ask about appetizers, but we did get dessert with our drinks at the Palo bar.

Back from Andrey the bartender... you can order food but it is up to the manager whether or not they charge the standard $10 per person dining fee. Remember, that $10 goes to tipping the Palo staff and once you go beyond drinks (which you would tip directly to the bartender) other people get involved that are not otherwise tipped.
