The Bahamian Rum Runners! May 18, 2012 - 5 Nights on the Magic!

Rant warning....

All I did - seriously ALL I DID was ask her if we could go through her clothes to see what we still needed to get her for the cruise. She has been so busy shopping for her hasn't been possible.

I am talking about my youngest (I'm an adult now Mom) DD - almost 19.

Maybe someone smarter than me.. someone more "with it", someone.. not as horribly old and stupid can explain to me how 2 ratty looking sundresses she bought 3-4 years ago are fine for her to wear to the dining rooms, but yet the only worn once - last year to the senior honor student banquet is "too immature for an adult to wear"?

So I am taking big deep breaths. She may accompany my DH and I tomorrow evening when we go out to dinner and the mall. I will let her get a few things *SHE* thinks she will need. Then - if she is not dressed appropriately when we go to dinner or Palo bunch or our Palo dinner she will be told she may order room service, sit by herself in front of the tv and chow down on some delicious chicken fingers.

Oh btw - when I told her shorts and tank tops are not allowed in the dining rooms and jeans are frowned upon.. her response... "cool".

26 more days - I can hardly wait. It is going to be wonderful. 26 more days until we head for Florida. 26 more days until we spend 1200 miles packed into a car together with no hope of escape.

Let's see rainy and wet, twisty roads? I'm going to guess you're in Scotland or Wales!

Ok we've been talking about this over on the facebook page but has anyone ever done the drop a pillowcase or photo mat off at concierge to get it signed on the cruise by the characters? There are some rumors that this is now frowned upon...for anyone who has done it, can you give us any more details, and for anyone who has heard this is no longer a good idea, do you know where you saw this?

Thanks guys!

Yeah, but WHERE in Scotland? Not that it makes any difference....:rotfl2:

I haven't heard that the character signings have been frowned upon but then I haven't been following those discussions. I dropped off a Tinkerbell tote for signatures to give to DW for her birthday (at the end of the cruise). I placed the tote with a couple of markers and some small packets of M&Ms in a plastic bag and gave it to GS. The final afternoon our steward brought it to the room. Of course he hands it to DW who had no idea what it was or why we were getting it (she was telling him there was a mistake when I arrived).

I'm sorry I am causing everyone stress. Back in 2009, I was on the DIS boards planning our Magic cruise with Vow Renewal. I told people I had ordered pillow cases along with the Fish Extender for my daughters. I was told then that "they don't do that anymore". I still brought them and since I was concierge (an automatic upgrade when you're renewing vows on the ship), I gave my pillow cases to the wedding coordinator. They came back no problem with signatures. DD (little one) was impressed, the teenager? Not so much/:confused3 I didn't even try on our cruise on the Dream in August.

I say they are small enough. Give it a shot.

I imagine they have a few people who have those signatures down. I imagine a cook and a room steward in a room with a bunch of items signing all the names.

Don't let something I heard on the boards 3 years ago stop you.

Mel

My thoughts as well. I wouldn't be surprised to learn they have a bunch of CM who have to sign signatures.

I did my tote bag last year and had no problems with GS at all. In fact, their only comment was that my item was significantly different from the usual request.

BTW, when I got the tote bag back, in the original plastic shopping bag (Disney of course) that I gave it to GS in, it included the markers but NOT the candy. Imagine that!

Soooo..... today the husky puppies got dug under the fence and got loose. Anyone that has ever owned a husky knows that this is a normal occurrence since huskies are escape artists. today was extra special when the police were called by an elderly woman saying that wolves were in her backyard attacking her (she was inside by the way and my huskies are not even 6mos old and about aggressive as mickey mouse).

Does this look like a wolf?!?

can't see them - bummer.. privacy settings I think.

huskies are adorable "wolves attacking her" LOL poor lady. did she ever find out there were domestic puppies?

well the shopping/clothes crisis was averted. I resigned to respect that she is indeed growing up and can do the clothes thing on her own and she agreed to respect that I am still a Mom and stressing about not having all my ducks in a row.

And - we went shopping.

This cruise is just sneaking up on us pretty quickly! Ahh!! :)

Totally getting my FE gifts done this weekend! SUPER excited! :)

:cool1:

there, do they look like menacing wolves?!? i dont know if the crazy old bat was even told they are puppies. The police came ready to shoot, i wonder if they laughed when they saw them?

Yup, definitely deadly, ferocious wolves! :rotfl2:

We have found through experience that you can't force them. I just gave ours the packing list and discussed some of the expected standards for the day and night (as in what is accepted or not accepted) and let it go at that.

I fully agree! Mostly likely lick someone to death! :rotfl:

We adopted a dog that was labeled "vicious". He had been badly abused and was very distrustful of sudden movements, especially hands near his head. Within 20 minutes I'm rolling on the floor with him and he is licking me all over. He wasn't vicious, just a scared (and scarred) abused puppy. We've had him several years now and he sometimes still reacts to sudden hand movements, but otherwise is very friendly, though we still warn people not to pet him initially so he can get used to them.

its takes special people to fix what sick people destroy. My MIL has a hound that was severely abused. She was malnurished, scarred, obviously used for breeding as well. she is skittish, has ocd (has to walk in straight lines or she will just whine if something is in her way) and other issues, but is the sweetest dog in the world.

i dont understand how people can do that to animals.

I don 't understand that either. Our dogs were adopted when they were about 4 months old. They had been found as newborns abandoned in a plastic bag on the side of the road. We got 2 of the 4 and they are the sweetest dogs we have ever had.

Eli has some issues - they do not make him aggressive - just the opposite. He is so timid and submissive. He has some health issues too - allergies. The dog is allergic to - FOOD! He can't digest and absorb protein right so we have to buy special prescription food for him. Costs a fortune but he is so worth it. Even with the special food the best we can do is control the allergies, we can't seen to get rid of them even after seeing a doggie dermatologist.

How people can be cruel to animals is beyond me - it is like being cruel to a child.

Heads-up to those of you with kiddos 5 and under. I will probably be (if I remember to pack them) zip-tying your child's FE gift to your fish or door or FE - depending on where I can attach it. I don't want it walking off and it is too large to fit in a pocket.

So ya might need to pack a small pair of scissors or have your room steward remove it for you.

If you would rather me not do that let me know and I will just hang it from - something.
