The Aussietravellers Adventures continue... Updated - Day 26 - Part 1

I've been away for a while and have missed alot!!! Madly trying to read everyone's TR.

Love reading about our adventures. I got excited when I saw the photo of the luggage tags...I also liked the photo of Bert and Mary Poppins (One of my faves). The costumes looked so real! And of course, New York just looks awesome.

I couldn't stop lauging when I read about the insane American shopper at Macy's :lmao:

I'm sorry you're not well. I haven't had a chance to read Ms Shuttergirls' TR...I'm headed there right now.

The view from your room is drop dead gorgeous, how wonderful for you all. The safari got you so close to the animals, wow. Love your images. I'm kind of regretting not staying there now:)

I hope you wake up feeling better today, poor thing.

Thank you for your info about the t-shirts, I think we will try that. As for offering to meet us at DD with your AP, well you are far to sweet. I wouldn't dream of taking up your holiday time for me but I am beyond touched at your generosity. Thank you.

Rope drop at MK looks so fun, I can't wait to see it. And as for being that close to Mary Poppins, well my daughter may have fainted on the spot :rotfl:.

She is are character to seek and capture on this trip. She eluded us last year unfortunately.

Oh wow! Am loving the pictures from the safari, how fabulous!

Argh, we haven't even done Disneyland yet and now I want to go to WDW... :rotfl:

The safari was amazing, so glad we did that. Oh WDW will always be here, DL is lovely too, we love it there.

Fabulous! It is such a thrill to see the animals up close. I've always wanted to stay at AKL and I think it's going to be a must-do for me now after your pictures.

Your ride wait times in the morning are magic.....but what is the crowd level like? Is it really busy?

And I can't wait to see MK Halloween decorations for myself!

We absolutely LOVE AKL, funny I was getting a little sad that we were leaving and heading over to BC and YC. It is so peaceful here, you can sit on the balcony and it's very calming and relaxing after the hectic busy parks.

I'm so excited reading your updates and seeing pics! It looks fantastic. My husband is now asking if we can stay at the same lodge so we can look out on the animals as it looks so lovely! Look forward to reading more!

It really is a wonderful resort. If you do ever stay, request the Arusha or Sunset savannahs, they have the best assortment of animals.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Looks like you are having the most amazing time!! That safari looks awesome, I can't believe how close to the animals you got. Also the view from your room is also amazing! Can't wait to hear more popcorn::

Thanks for reading along :goodvibes, the safari was awesome, will try to update our next couple of days later today or tonight.

Great photos! We were lucky enough to see the Halloween decorations too, but my then 3 year old initially had issues with the 'scary pumpkins'. Needless to say we did not attempt a Halloween Party.

Thank you :goodvibes The halloween theme can be a little scary for little ones. Mind you I was at breakfast and there was a little boy terrified of Mickey Mouse so "scary pumpkins" would look a little frightening to a little one, how cute :rotfl2:. I'll never forget the first time my DS saw the beast from beauty and the beast. I was pushing him in the stroller, next thing he had jumped out and took off, back from where we just came and I didn't know why, until I caught sight of the beast :lmao:

Aussietravellers - I read that you weren't feeling the best in Shuttergirl's TR. I hope that you're feeling better...:flower3:!

Just feeling very dizzy and sick :sad1: Feeling a little better this morning but still not 100%

Thanks for reading along :goodvibes and welcome back. Oh that insane American shopper at Macys was just so funny. Actually we had that and another funny Macy's experience, it was like a comedy show at that store. We were again waiting at another counter and the lady serving was a big, tall african american woman and this tiny italian woman came up and asked if they had "natural bra", the lady serving, at the top of her lungs said "NATURAL BRA, WOT YOU TALKIN BOUT NATURAL BRA" and then did this "uuuuuh huuuuhhh" sound whist moving her head from side to side. Kind of you had to be there moment, but the poor little italian girl just said "no matter" and off she went. :lmao:

Don't regret not staying here, Wilderness will be awesome with awesome views and were you staying club? That will be so exciting!

Rope drop at MK looks so fun, I can't wait to see it. And as for being that close to Mary Poppins, well my daughter may have fainted on the spot :rotfl:.

She is are character to seek and capture on this trip. She eluded us last year unfortunately.

Rope drop was great. I am quite impressed, we have made two rope drops now without really aiming for rope drop. I think rope drop is essential though for Hollywood Studios and you race back to Toy Story mania, run onto the ride then come out and get a fastpass to ride later. Otherwise the fastpasses have gone by mid morning and the queue for the ride is just crazy!

I am not sure where Mary Poppins is during the day, it was just a fluke I think that we saw her at rope drop, then happened to be following her down main street. It was quite cool. But I would have your DD at rope drop as I think she is always at the rope drop ceramony.

I've got a funny Macy's story too. We lined up at the check out on the kids floor and I seriously had piles of clothes in my arms and we had arranged to meet DH in 10 mins on another floor. I was panicking a little because our phones hadn't charged properly so I couldn't call to say I'd be late.

So there is this lady serving who is like 100 years old, I am seriously not kidding. How this woman could still be allowed to work is beyond me. And she was sooooooooooooooo slow. It was like watching a skit in a comedy show because surely this couldn't be real. Another lady came over and served the lady in front of us. I thought, oh no, the ancient one looks like she is nearly finished with her customer, it will take years for her to get through all of our stuff. The expression on my face must have said it all. The other sales lady caught my eye and motioned me over, even before she had finished with her customer. I ran over and dumped my stuff down just as the ancient one said next :rotfl2:. Then ancient one looked at me and said "next". My kind sales lady said, oh I've got this, I was helping this lady before" then she turns to me and says "how did you go, did you find it" like we truly had met before. I could've kissed her.

The only down side was when we got home we realised that she had left a security tag on one of the tops. Damn, now I have to go back to Macy's to get it taken off.

On second thoughts, maybe going back to Macy's isn't such a bad thing :lmao::lmao:

In May, Mary Poppins could be found in England, Epcot; pretty much opposite the Rose and Crown; near the parterre garden section. And when she wasn't there, Alice could be found.

Mary Poppins was also in the character signing area of Hollywood Studios - near the cartoon drawing workshop. This was also a good spot for Snow White, as she stood in front of a large sketch from the film. We were there around 4pm, and there were not long lines.

I wonder if Macy's sales assistants work on commission. An assistant who helped me find different sizes, got rather shirty when I went to pay another assistant. She made it very clear I was her customer, so the other assistant left me at the counter, and I had to wait for 'my assistant' to finish ringing up another customers sale.

Today started with breakfast at Tusker House. It was Donald's Safari Breakfast and it was delicious. We love going to tusker house on our AK days because we try to get an early ADR before park opening. We gobble down our breakfast, so that we can be right near Killamjaro Safari for rope drop and can get in early with no wait. Our plan was not successful this particular morning :rotfl: We arrived for our 8.15 ADR and went straight for our photo at the entrance. After our photo we were heading inside with our waitress and we met Kyl and her family. We had a very quick chat as our waitress was waiting to take us inside. We sad down and then the waiter came along to show me around the buffet (have a peanut allergy). We then went up and got our food and had another chat with Kyl. She is lovely and it was lovely to put a face to the screen name.

Anyway I didn't take many photos. The plates were funny colours and the food didn't photograph well, but I did take some of the characters.

Here is the Jumba Juice (same as the juice at Ohana and Boma). Passionfruit, Orange and Guava Juice, YUM

We didn't wait for Goofy as he was taking forever and we have another ADR later in our trip so wanted to get going. Our waitress took forever to get our bill, like 20 minutes, then by the time she came back with our card it was about half an hour so we missed rope drop!

So we raced over and got....
DSC02629.jpg

and went walking, where we saw this.... a baby gorilla. SO cute!
DSC02630.jpg

We also saw this gorilla. He cracked us up, he is obviously the head gorilla
DSC02635.jpg

By the time we had walked around that trail it was time to go back for Killamjaro Safari and use our fastpasses.
DSC02639.jpg

We had giraffes really close
DSC02648.jpg

But the most exciting thing was when we saw the baby elephant. It was running around everywhere and was SO cute!
DSC02658.jpg

After the safari we ran into Baloo and some monkey/ape thing (don't know who it was) and DS walked up to them and this is what they did.... It was so funny! I love how some characters are so much fun.
DSC02668.jpg

We then wandered past and there was a bird show on, which we joined, sitting at the back and it was quite good.
DSC02678.jpg

We then headed over to the Nemo show. It was not the best show I have ever seen, I actually spent part of the show deleting disaster photos off my camera, so that is an indicator that it was not keeping my attention :rotfl2: But here is a photo anyway

It was then time for Yak and Yeti for lunch. I have to say I was so excited. This was one of our favourite meals when we were last at WDW. It was second to Jiko and I can tell you now, it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious and if you like asian food, then I recommend you add this place to your must do list.

Started off with the Lettuce Cups to share (not as good as PF Changs but still yummy)

Then Chicken LoMein
DSC02709.jpg

Honey Chicken (SO good)
DSC02707.jpg

Chicken Rice (this was SO delicious)

All finished off with a fortune cookie.

So Yak and Yeti was again one of our favourites and we have two more ADR's this trip and can't wait!

YAY for Animal Kingdom and FOOD! I read a lot of reviews about how some Dis-ers are disappointed with the food at AK. Perhaps there are really only two decent places to eat at AK but I loved  the breakfast at Tusker House; and we eat at Yak and Yeti for lunch as well. My only complaint about Y&Y food is that it can be a little bit sweet. Not sure why people don't like food at this park ?

And I think the other character with Baloo is King Louie (I wanna talk like you, I wanna walk like you.....)

How fantastic to have a Melbourne DisMeet at AK. Hope to see pictures of you and Kyl????

Yay, another update! :yay: The baby gorilla and elephant are soooooo cute! I love baby animals (Who doesn't?) But wow!

I definitely have Tusker House on my ADR list and I think we will do Yak & Yeti too. My DS LOVES honey chicken and we all love asian food!

Hmmm yum. Yak and Yeti looks delicious. We are eating lunch there our first day so your photos were wonderful to see. Love your shot of the entrance.

I am already taking lots of food porn, can't wait to get to WDW to capture more.

Love the animal shots, that little ellie baby made me smile

I have to be honest and say that I was looking forward to AK the least. I think I've changed my mind!

Oh and thanks to everyone who provided tips for Mary Poppins sightings.

Mmm...7am is too early to be craving honey chicken LOL. Glad the food was great, and wow, that baby gorilla is SO cute!

I think a lot of Americans are very very very cautious about food, Chinese is a bit too out there for some of them! I remember last time at Y&Y there were so many people sitting around us asking for 'something normal'. I thought the Y&Y food was very American Chinese (very sweet) I had been hoping there would be something a little be Nepalese, since it was meant to be Nepal rather than China, but no. Y&Y is run by the same people as the Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex at Downtown Disney.

Yay! It looks like you've had a wonderful time. :goodvibes Love your New York pics. So glad you made it to Magnolia Bakery (yum). We just got back from WDW Sunday! Enjoy the rest of your stay. Keep the updates coming.

I just realised that I didn't finish day 9.

After our day at AK, We hopped on this and we went back to the hotel for a rest
DSC02730.jpg

we saw this little guy having his afternoon snack on our way out of AK
DSC02716.jpg

I really keep forgetting that I have a serious medical condition and should really be taking it easy! This was supposed to be take it easy trip and not a commando trip and by this afternoon, my neck (torn artery) was telling me to "slow down"!.

So after our rest, I had stupidly made an ADR at 50's Prime Time Cafe. Why I had done this is beyond me, knowing we would have had the day at AK. But when I made the ADR's that 6 months before I was a normal healthy person with a normal healthy family, no serious medical condition! But I love 50's Prime Time so off we went. We literally just went to the studios for dinner and when we got there to check in we overheard a guy in front being told that they hadn't sat the 5.50pm people yet and our ADR was 6.45pm :scared1::scared1:

DSC02731.jpg

We checked in anyway and the wait was only about 30 minutes. The place was packed and unfortunately I forgot to take any photos of the food. We were so hungry by the time and tired by the time our food came, I just completley forgot.

This is such a fun restaurant.
DSC02737.jpg

Our waitress was great, but not too over the top which we liked, the waitress in the room beside us sounded like a cockatoo and we kept laughing as she went on and on and on the whole meal, but not at us luckily so it was funny. We were introduced to everybody sitting in our room by where we lived, as we were all in a line and packed in like sardines. The couple beside us really got a hard time. The DW asked for another drink for her DH and the waitress bellowed about him having another one when he hadn't finished his first one. The DW said that he drinks a lot so by the time the new drink arrives he will probably have finished that one. Well, what a mistake that was.... Out came the waitress with a massive jug of the drink and stuck a straw in the jug and took away his glass. She said, "I don't have time to get you drinks all night, I do have other customers you know, so this should keep you going" :lmao::lmao::lmao: Our whole room was just in hysterics and the guy was not a loud kind of guy, quite quiet and it was just so funny. But he was the butt of another waitresses joke later also. He snapped a photo of two waitresses clearing a table in the room beside us. OMG, that was a serious error :rotfl2: They started screaming at him from across the room about asking permission to take their photos, then that same waitress was walking past, still mumbling about him taking her photo without permission and then said that she's going to drop her tray and it will be all his fault, she said "I've got spots in my eyes, stupid flash spots in my eyes because of you" :lmao::lmao::lmao: It was all in fun and it was just so funny.

Anyway the food was really not that great. I had the meatloaf and it was OK, the milkshakes were so thick we couldn't drink them, we had to use a spoon. But we didn't go for the food, it was for the atmosphere and it really is a fun place to eat. We absolutely loved our meal there and will be returning with friends when they arrive in a few days, so I will take photos then and post with that report.

After dinner we just went straight back to the hotel to bed.

I awoke this morning very excited. No not because we were going to a special park, but because we were going to my very favourite place for breakfast at the whole of WDW. They have by far the best food anywhere (can you tell that I like to eat :lmao: )

It was time for breakfast at....
DSC02751.jpg

and it did not disappoint! Not one bit, actually we ate there again before we left AK and will be eating there again next week with our friends once they arrive.

Breakfast at Boma feels healthier and better quality than all of the other restaurants we have had breakfast at so far. They have a roasting station with fresh turkey breast and a big yummy baked ham and they are baking more meat over the fire behind. They have made to order omelette's along with the usual waffles and pancakes, yummy breakfast potatoes and of course fresh fruit, muffins and much more. Here are some pics from breakfast.

Jungle juice (or some name like that, same as the juice at Ohana and Tusker House, delicious) Orange, Passionfruit and Guava juice.

An assortment of some muffins, choc chip, orange bran and I think it was apple

The meal was delicious! We throughly enjoyed it and can not wait to go back. We then raced back to the room to get ready for our first day at Hollywood studios and my favourite ride... Toy Story Mania

Will update with the rest of the day later...... Have to upload some photos and get ready for our day.... Breakfast at Kouzzina and Blizzard Beach, hope I don't get as burnt as I did at Typhoon Lagoon the other day..... Lobster is not the best colour and that is what I am currently :rotfl2:
