I got all my old games out to clean them up a bit, and thought I would go ahead and take a couple of pictures while I was at it.
Great memories, huh?

I'll be PM'ing you my address! My sister would just about die and go to heaven with all those classic games!!! I just gave DH & Binlaw for Christmas the new Atari version that has the 40 preloaded games on it because they are always reminiscing about the good ole games.

Oops, sorry, I didn't mean to say that I was getting rid of them. Just a simple statement, kind of like "Tennis anybody".

No, no, no, I really meant it as a joke..... I am actually envious of you having all those games :goodvibes Kind of like the person who posts they are making chocolate chip cookies and the next person posts they are on the way...from 6 states away :lmao:

I went ahead and changed the name of the thread so as to not confuse anybody else - sorry again about that!

That is quite a collection, Goofster!

I have owned two video game systems. The first one contained pong, hockey, and two grand prix races.

The second system was the Atari 2600 and I've never upgraded :)

I haven't played it since I was a kid but I still have it.

I'll play ya on Pittfall.

This brings back memories of days when video games had a beginning, a middle and an END!!! None of this "wait til I get to a part where I can save my game" nonsense. You had 3 chances to make it to the next level and then you DIED. It wasn't the machine's job to remember, either, the next time you played, which level you were on. Next time around you started at square one just like everyone else.

Rant over. Wow.....that's a lot of games! Can I come visit?

Yeah, but the way it was worded, it could be meant too literally, so better safe than sorry!

You might also notice in the pitcure that something is missing - the actual atari itself. My son broke ours a couple of years ago, and I am looking to replace it. I just don't want to pay a lot of money.

Ah Pirtfall and RiverRaid...... just classic......

Out of curiosity, how much do you estimate the original investment of all those games was? i.e. How much did you spend buying them in the first place?

WOW!!! My brother had a bunch of those too, had a job as the local newspaper boy and almost every week, bought a new cartridge. Then he switched to colecovision, which my kids have BUT NEVER plays with it.

Thanks for sharing!

I paid on average about .50 cents per game. It used to be that you could go into any goodwill or Salvation Army and find a whole bunch of Atari games for 25. - .50 cents. A few of them cost a dollar a piece. I also got a lot from yard sales (again about .50 cents average). So if you take the number of games shown here (about 230) times .50 cents come to 115 dollars. Add to that the price of the atari itself (about 5 dollars back then) and you figure I probably paid about 120 dollars for all of this. It took probably about 5 years to gather all of these games so about 25 dollars a year - not too bad!

That's quite a collection! When we were first married, DH worked as a contract software engineer and would work out of our apt with two other guys. I'd call home in the afternoon, only to hear "pong" in the background. "working hard, eh guys?!"

Okay, this time remember to land on the back of the crocs head; and don't forget to jump that scorpion!

DH did that once with all of ours - between the six consoles - half of them new in box and all of the games and accessories it took over our california king bed and stuff was piled! My grandmother cleared out her garage and gave us all of it. She still has more in there, her ex collected all of it and was super geeky, he marked the date he bought it and for how much on EVERYTHING! DH was in geek heaven when he started clearing through all of it. :rotfl2:

DON'T jump on that scorpion- it means death!:rotfl: You are confusing Pitfall Harry with Mario.

All the Pitfall fans here- the new (in relation to Atari Pitfall) Pitfall: The Lost Expeditions game is great. It is for X-box and playstation II and maybe Gamecube. I am Atari aged and I loved:love: it.

OP- I saw my favorites- megamania and Yars Revenge- both of which are on my Atari Flashback, but no Adventure?:confused3 Maybe I just couldn't see it. You could have at least alphabetized them for us. Geez.:lmao:

You just didn't look hard enough! Look on the very right side, when you find Pac-Man, look at the game beneath it.

As for alphabetizing, well.... I'll think about it, and get back to you in a year or so.

I still have an old Atari, and the thing about it is.... the idea of playing it again seems so nostalgic and fun, but, really, the games aren't all that great. They are more frustrating than anything.
