The antibiotics aren't working....

We went back to the vet tonight, another round of antibiotics then my dog will need surgery.

They gave him something for pain so at least he isn't hurting as bad. I know a lot of folks will think it's a silly request for a pet but, when you say your prayers, could you add my dog? I know he's not a person but he's such a loving, loyal dog and we love him so very much :sad1: :sad1:

:grouphug: I said a prayer...Mine are 4 legged children ...i know what you mean.:wizard:

Just a pet? Silly to pray for? I don't think so! Your doggie is also one of God's creations - just like you. If your baby is important to you, he's important to God!! Therefore, I'll pray for you, your baby pup & the situation. No prayer is too silly or too small. God wants you to bring everything that troubles you to Him - the happy stuff, too!

Keep us posted, please.

Well said. I'll remember your doggie in my prayers.

I agree pups get a mention in my prayers also.

Definitely NOT a silly request. Being childless, my dogs and my cat are my KIDS!! I will most certainly say a prayer for your baby and your family!

I'm sorry about your doggie -

I must've missed a prior post saying what was wrong with the pup. Hope he isn't in too much pain.

Doggie prayers are coming your way . . .

It isn't silly. They are our kids with four legs and fur.

I will add your pup to my prayers. :grouphug:

Thank you all! We've been in and out of the closet/hall all day, and will continue throughout the night (tornadoes). Brownie has not been himself today and I'm trying not to panic.

He is eating and drinking but he just lays around like a big slug which isn't like him. I kept saying "well, he doesn't feel well so he isn't going to be very playful" but he just started bleeding again and it's bright red. :sad1: :sad1:

The vet group we go to is stellar and I know they would do anything for him (Lead vet met me there at 2:30 am when we had a bloat scare) but we can not get out in this weather, it's too dangerous and they are constantly asking people to stay off the road.

Good grief now baseball sized hail-I guess I spoke too soon on the other thread-another tornado warning issued -that makes 6 tornado warnings in effect for our area and various flood and severe thunderstorm warnings......so back to the closet for us.

I would rather lose my house than my dog-I can replace the bricks and morter, I can't replace my dog.

I'm sending lots of prayers and hugs your way, for your safety and for your puppy.

Prayers for your pup..and may the Lord also keep your family safe from harm.

Wondering how your dog is doing?

Knock on wood, things are quiet now. Only 1 tornado warning left but it is several counties west of us. Maybe we will get some sleep.

Brownie had 2 more antibiotics, a pain pill, and some yogurt. The bleeding has slowed to just occasional oozing
and he seems to be resting without too much pain now--he's not panting, pacing, or whimpering- so that's better.

This round of antibiotics just have to work. :sad1:

Thanks for everyone's kind words and prayer for my Brownie Boy.

Maybe if we could could get more than a few hours sleep we would all feel better. Tornado sirens at 2:30 AM, 6:30 AM, and 10:00 AM (of course, right as we drifted off to nap). Jen, I heard one was around Chewacla this morning.

Brownie would not eat his food this morning. He is taking a hefty dose of Augmentin twice a day so I'm sure he doesn't feel like eating but still....

I did get him to eat some yogurt (had to spoon feed him), and a pancake but when I tried to get him to eat another pancake, he got up, walked into the living room, laid down, and looked at me like this:

He looks pretty pathetic now, I would take a picture but he hates it and I don't want to pester him when he's sick. The vet said to keep up the antibiotics, pain pills, and yogurt and bring him back Monday. If he gets worse, stops drinking, starts bleeding again (just oozing now) and/or stops eating altogether I have to call back and they'll meet me at the clinic

I just want him to be himself again. I hate this :sad1:

ETA: I just read on another thread that 13 years is a long time for a large dog. Is that really all I can expect for Brownie? Only 10 more years? That seems so short.....I wish I didn't love him this much.

When my lab was diagnosed with bone cancer, we were told he had three weeks. We got 8 months. It is hard, man, I am tearing up writing this. I really haven't heard of labs going much past 15 and that is rare. It is just not fair that an animal that gives so much has to have such a short life on this planet.

My husband heard that there was a tornado in Bham (he is from there). Do you know where it was in town? Also, I hope that the park is ok in Chewacla. I loved going there in college.
