The "Anti-Castle-Envy" Disneyland Podcast is up

WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Can't wait to listen!!! Planning out first trip to DL in Oct so this Podcast has been amazingly helpful not to mention entertaining!!! So thank you :thumbsup2

my family's first (and so far, only) time at disneyland was 8 years ago...

when we walked into disneyland, my kids seriously went into SHOCK when they saw the castle

after that first viewing, whenever we walked by the castle, they would both cover their eyes and yell out 'there it is, DON'T LOOK AT IT'...... :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I love all the castles. If they were all the same, I'd be disappointed. Each castle is perfect in its own way. Too bad Imagineering didn't insist on creating unique castles for Tokyo and Hong Kong. As I understand it, Shanghai will be getting a unique castle.

I completely agree with you Mike! I am really tired of the 'DL's Castle is too small" comments. As a Left Coaster, my experience had always been DL until a few years ago when we visited WDW. Interestingly enough, I was not struck by 'Oh my gosh look how HUGE their castle is!' thoughts at all. It is lovely and seems to fit nicely in the landscape. Just as DL's castle is lovely and fits in the landscape with the Matterhorn very well.

They are both terrific in their own rights.

I grew up in Southern California, and consider Disneyland's castle to be amazing and beautiful. It always feels magical and like home when I see it. The WDW castle is spectacular in a lot of ways, but it will never hold a candle to Sleeping Beauty's Castle! :goodvibes

Looking forward to seeing DLP's Castle in a month!!! :woohoo:

i grew up going to disneyland, the castle there is more special to me then disney world. u can't get better than the original!! i love the history and the fact that this was walt disneys home

i didn't remember that the DL castle was different or smaller..

i only saw it once, when i was 16 years old (when i went with my sister to the rosebowl to see the university of michigan lose to stanford )..

years later when i saw it with my kids, i stood there looking at it...really surprised it was so much smaller as i hadn't remembered that...of course, the first time i saw the castle at DL, WDW didn't even exist yet, so no one had a basis for comparison at that point...there weren't any other castles, just the one at DL....

Because my first view of a Disney castle was when I was 7 years old at WDW, the DLR castle will always feel "wrong" to me.

I definitely think it's what you grew up seeing (or saw first) that makes the biggest impact.

I couldn't agree more with your post. I love them all.

I mistakenly referred to the DL castle as "snow white's castle" in the presence of Na Jo and got taken to the cleaners for it. ;)

How gratifying to hear Walt apparently made the same mistake.

I feel so vindicated.

Can somebody give me a tip on how to spot the DL castle? Val & I will be there in November and I want to be sure I don't accidentally overlook it. popcorn::

Focus on walking to the Partners statue, and keep heading in that general direction. :rotfl2:

(You don't want me saying what I'm thinking!!!! )

That was a WONDERFUL piece on Sleeping Beauty Castle you did. My favorite part is your closing remarks "We wouldn't trade it for the world!"

I really don't understand why people feel the need to pick on or criticize our castle. You're in a different park entirely. You don't like that the merchandise is not park specific, that it is all the same, why on earth would you want all the castles to be huge and identical? Take a step back and enjoy each park for it's uniqueness. Go to the golden spike and stand over it, knowing you are standing in the very same spot that Walt himself stood. Stop complaining that the castle is not what you think it should be and enjoy it for what it is. The very castle that Walt Disney wanted in that park, his first creation.

That's true with a lot of things in life... :tilt:

Although, I'll tell ya... Even though I was "raised on" the castle in WDW, *nothing* EVER gave me goosebumps like walking toward Sleeping Beauty's Castle in DL for the first time. (And I was WELL into my 20's at the time)

It's hard to explain, but something about DL in general has a "magic" - or a vibe, I guess, that WDW doesn't quite have.

The ghost of Walt, or something like that. The force is strong in that one.

(OK, I'm mixing my references there, but lots of folks here know what I'm talking about... :wizard: )

I will agree with you. I wouldn't trade the castle here but there is something special when you walk through DL. I can picture Walt walking around and can see his touches in the park. There are things at DL that I wish we had here. When I did the ABD trip I kept saying different things were better at DL.

I would like to do over Club 33 and Walt's apartment since the day I did it there was a lot going on personally.

If it wasn't for Disneyland we wouldn't have Disney World. I am glad I get to visit them both!!! You couldn't drag me away from WDW but I am glad I get to visit DL. Now to visit the rest of the parks around the world. :)

Please understand that this was said in good fun.* (and I totally agree with everything you said). (*see footnote)

The "castle envy" comment came after YellowMickeyPonchos posted this....

"Therefore, as always, Florida tries to claim the main gate as being theirs, but it really was inspired by us out here in California!".

It's the "as always" that gets me.

Footnote - Now....the fact that y'all get so defensive, makes it even more fun.;)
