The "Anti-Castle-Envy" Disneyland Podcast is up

I've never been to DL, but I can't imagine being disappointed in the castle when I do finally get there. It is the one Walt built after all, that gives it alot of clout right there.

i've seen four of the castles (5 total?)....i don't remember the one in tokyo as it was so many years ago that i saw it (27 to be exact)...

and i don't remember the one in paris, because by the time we got into the park we were already thoroughly irritated by the french operating the place that it was hard to notice anything (other than the cool halloween decorations)...

but i do remember the DL castle very well...

so i'm guessing that the castles in tokyo and paris must be very similar to the florida version...otherwise they would have stuck with me...

i thought the one in DL was pretty....just really really small....really....
not sure if size matters though....by the way, overall, we thought DL was much prettier than the magic kingdom....and it seemed a bit more magical to us....not that MK isn't....we love the magic kingdom...but DL is such a lovely place.......and seemed more magical to us....we were all surprised that they didn't repeat some of the really pretty parts of DL when they made MK...

I think it is funny that some people think one castle is better than the other.

For me, WDW is NOT the castle. Never has been and I have been going since 71 or 72.

The building that IS WDW for me is CR.

Riding the monorail to MK and stopping inside CR in that great, big, open, space was awe inspiring. THAT is WDW for me. Looking at a fake castle was ho hum. Looking up inside CR at the mosaic was awesome.

While CR's atrium is huge, AKL and GF, are right up there in awesomeness. I wonder what my kids feel is The WDW building. They have not been to GF but the DW and I went over there for dinner. GF was very nice and maybe someday when the kids are older or out of the house we would say there. Hard to beat AKL for us.

I know people here are teasing about the castle and I enjoy a good castle banter as much as the next person.

However, on the DLR forums, every once in a while, we get someone who says they've been to WDW a zillion times and decided to try DLR and hated it. And often the first reason these people give is that the castle is too small and they didn't "feel" the magic. I'm always surprised. Really, you'd let the size of the castle determine your attitude for the whole vacation? I just find that mystifying. I'm happy for those people to stay at WDW. Everyone else- bring on the castle talk. I'm up for it!

I still have to listen to the podcast. I keep forgetting to put it on my itouch. Now I really can't wait to hear it.

Oh, one more thing. If you watch Sleeping Beauty, her father in law to be had the castle built and he called it a "honeymoon cottage, really". So, this is her "starter castle".

For those of you that don't know the quote Kevin is referring to, it was in response to a discussion about the inspiration of the entry gate design to Disney Hollywood Studios in Orlando and how people were complaining that DCA was just "copying" that gate entrance in the redesign of their park. It was based on the thought because something was designed for another park means that it must be sacred for that park alone. However, if you know the history behind something, the placement or design concept suddenly makes sense - hence the context for that statement. Of course, we Disney geeks are the only people who truly get that.

Let's make no mistake that EVERYTHING has its roots in the thoughts and philosophy of Disney. That's the business model. We just have to remember that every fan places expectations in things and memories that are uniquely personal to him or herself. Therefore, no design will please everyone.

You have to take each for it's own value and worth. Read no more into it!

I would think WDW offers the best selection of sweets/chocolate then its West Coast older sister. I never been to the left coast yet, but willing to go see for myself someday.

Can somebody give me a tip on how to spot the DL castle? Val & I will be there in November and I want to be sure I don't accidentally overlook it.

have you ever noticed how all the pictures of the DL castle seem to have been taken by someone lying on the ground focusing up?

i think that's why we all stood staring at it the first time we saw it....we'd never seen a head on picture...always an upward angled perspective...

I have an incredible fondness for Cinderella's Castle at Disney World but not because it's big. It is because it was the castle I looked at as a little girl and claimed as mine. It was the castle that I wanted to move in and live in. I think that all the Castle's should be different.

I am glad that it is different from Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty's Castle. It makes both castles unique. One castle is not better than the other. It is special in the hearts of those who love it.

So stop calling Cinderella's Castle huge. I call it Grand.

Oh and by the Way Disneyland doesn't have Epcot.

The entire castle debate is a little too "played out" for me at this point. It's like an old joke that never ends.

I grew up going to Walt Disney World and love that castle. However, I took my first trip to DL last year and my second this past week and also adore its castle. I don't think it looks small either. Sure, one may prefer a single castle over another, but that's okay. WDW and DL have something very special and are "sister" resorts. While WDW has some things DL doesn't have, the exact vice versa is true for DL. Remember, you can be where Walt walked in DL....

Seriously, lest anybody misinterpret, my previous post was a joke. Val & I have been to DL a couple of times and it certainly does have a different charm. We're really looking forward to our November trip, but I fear we've allocated too few days.
