I am trying to decide on hotels for our stay the first week of August. We will be staying a total of 4 nights. We have some left over DVC points we will use so we want to stay 2 nights at the DL hotel and then book a package for the other 2 nights. I have checked the prices and there is not a lot of price difference for booking the package over doing it individually. Plus I like the ticket deal that comes with the packages.

Last time we were at Disneyland we stayed at the Park Place Inn 2 years ago. Very convenient, but the hotel itself was not that great. I was at a travel show today and there was a disney rep. there. She told me that the Anabella was a brand new property and was very nice. She said that her and several of the disney reps toured it a few weeks ago and they were all very impressed. Said food was good in the restaurants too. It seems a little further and I am not sure if they have any shuttle service. Anyone know.

Any comments that people have (good and bad) on both places might help me decide. Thanks everyone for your help.

Pam

BWVPam: The Candy Cane Inn has an excellent rep of being a good independent hotel and the property is very nice.

And if you want the option of walking or taking a shuttle - the Candy Cane has both. At least this was the situation several years ago - but maybe someone has more current info.

Have a wonderful trip.:Pinkbounc

The Anabella is 4 old hotels refribished into 1 property. It is on the wrong end of katella blvd and on the wrong side of the street.

We learned the hard way you Need to book a Harbor Blvd hotel!!

The Candy Cane Inn has a shuttle, something you want after a loooooooong day in the parks, they serve a nutrious breakfast, and the rooms are quiet. And as stated it has a great rep. here from poeple who have stayed there.

But I think I would want to stay at Best Western Park Place Inn. It is right at the cross walk to DL.

We stayed at both the Park Place and the Candy Cane on our last trip to Disneyland (they were buffer hotels around our DVC points too). I would take the Candy Cane over the Park Place Anytime. I agree that the Park Place has a great location, but the breakfast, parking and rooms were no where as good as the Candy Cane. (IMHO)

My trip in December I stayed the first night at the Anabella just to check it out. We had stayed there when it was the old Magic Lamp motel. They did a major refurb on these places and the ambiance is nice. The room decore is nice as well. It is still a series of buildings with exterior corridors but dressed up much nicely. There is loads of parking. I did not try the restuarant.
I still like the Candy Cane better. It just seems more cozy and pretty. The free breakfast is good and perfect for me. It is a closer walk to the parks.
The Anabella can usually be had for less money and is still nice and fine if you can't get into the Candy Cane. The walk to the parks would be about 5 minutes longer.

We loved the Candy Cane Inn last summer and are going back again this summer. We found it much cheaper to book the components ourselves, the Candy Cane is running a special internet rate of $87 (deluxe) or $77 (regular-what you get with the package).

I had thought about buying individually, however, I am not a member of AAA and I really want to get the tickets that include the unlimited fastpasses as we will be going the first week in August when crowds are usually extremely high.

I am now really torn between the Candy Cane and Tropicana. Everyone has really goods things to say about Candy Cane, but I like the convenience of walking across the street from the Tropicana. The Tropicana is going through a major refurbishment right now, so things would be practically new when we go. Oh, what a terrible decision.

Thanks,

Pam

I don't know about the Candy Cane but we DH and I stayed at the Anabella last June. It is several small, motor coach type motels, that have been renovated into one large motel. I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of a cleaned up version of the motels I used to stay in when I was a kid. It's nothing extravagent but it is nice, quiet, and close to DL. The rooms have small marble bathrooms, a small dressing area, and a fridge and coffee maker. Our room had a tiny, seperate extra sleeping area with a tv and daybed. It is on the same shuttle route as the rest of the motels in the area. We found it to be quicker and easier to walk, however. If you have a map Disneyland/California it is directly across from the Paradise Pier area in California. There is a small gate in the fence that gives you access to the parking lot so you can kinda 'take cuts'. I'd definately stay there again :)

According to my cousin who has stayed at both places over the last couple of years, the Candy Cane wins hands down.

BWVPAM,

We are going to be there 8/9-8/15 (not doing Disney all those days). While the new tickets with multiple FP is interesting....after much thought I don't think they will be of that much use. It seems like if you really use them at more than one ride, you will have to spend your entire day running from one side of the park to another. We were at DL last 7/2-7/4 and never found the crowds to be that bad and that is one of their peak weeks. We got there early, did some of the more popular rides, then used FP the rest of the day. We rode every attraction multiple times and we only spent about 5 hours/day at the parks.

The package for me was $300.00 more than what I could get it for myself so it was not a hard decision for me!

If you go with the Candy Cane, ask for a room away from the street.

Letsbgoofy,

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of rate did you get at Candy Cane on your dates?

Thanks

Pam

Does anyone have a link to the Anabella website? I am planning on bidding on Priceline and this is one of the hotels that have reciently came up and I can't seem to find the website to be able to take a look at it.

BWVPAM,

We got the deluxe (40 sq. feet larger) room for $87/ night. The standard room was $77/night. This was online at candycaneinn.net. I've been checking regularly to see if the rate goes any lower and that rate was still there last week. It doesn't include tax, there are no parking fees, and you get a free breakfast.

No matter how I did the math, I couldn't figure out how Disney came up with the package price they quoted me-$300 is a big difference!

BWVPAM,

I just checked the website and the rate is there starting 8/10 - in other words the rate is no longer avaiable that Saturday night ($92.00). These are just my dates, not sure when you will be there.

Letsbegoofy,

Thanks for the info. I figured out my package price and maybe because we are only staying 2 nights on the package (then using DVC points at DL hotel), there was only a difference of about $15. Of course, I have booked through Dreams and received a $40 discount on the package. My kids love the $10 game card at ESPN zone, so it kinda makes it up for that.

Thanks again,

Pam
