~ The Amazing Race ~ Season 16 ~

If you are going on Amazing Race, do yourself a huge favor and learn to drive a standard shift car. ;) I don't drive stick either, but you can be sure I'd get a lot of practice before heading out on Amazing Race.

The beauty queen and boyfriend went because they thought they had food poisoning but I think they just ended up dehydrated . Both got an IV drip and they went back to the race, three hours after there start time.

Thank you! :goodvibes

I didn't really want to see the lawyer moms go but I didn't think they were an overly strong team. I neither liked or didn't like them. They never did anything to make me dislike them but I knew they weren't a strong enough team so I didn't attach to them.

The first 2 teams are the two I am starting to like. I'm not sure which of the two I like more but they are the only two I like that are left.

I couldn't believe the Grandma said that about her grandchildren! I feel sorry for her other grands. :sad2: I have 5 grands of my own and I have a special way for telling them how special they are to me. I say "You are my favorite *insert child's name here*, so they can ALL be my favorites, individually. :goodvibes

You know, it's almost better that the grandma admit that she has a favorite. My father's mother never admitted that, but at each holiday, my grandparents would hand $5 to each grandchild except three of them would also get an envelope to "open at home."

Liked the Nana and granddaughter at first, but I couldn't believe she made that comment about Shannon being her favorite. That dropped her down in my book. It is only natural to have favorites, but you don't go around declaring that on national TV!!!!! My grandparents had favorites I am sure, but they treated us all the same no matter what!

Two - okay, three ;) points: She's truthful - and she explained it's because Shannon is the grandchild she knows best; don't forget, since this was filmed x months ago, Jody has had the opportunity to inform all other family members what she said and why she said it (and to start getting to know others better); and dangit, she's seventy-one and if you can't speak your mind once you're in your seventies, when CAN you? I'm telling people now I'm sixty-eight, to cover myself in just a couple of years when I start 'speaking my mind' and expecting to be excused for it simply because of my age! :rotfl::rotfl:

This is probably just a coincidence, but I've noticed that the only times they have been in South America were only legs 5 or earlier. (Excluding the Family Edition, because it changed the premise of the Race some, but then it was only leg 6)

I had a boss who couldn't wait to get old enough for people to dismiss whatever he says because he's too old to know better. Of course, it didn't stop him from saying strange things when he was in his 40s, either.

Oh, no! I don't want people to dismiss what I say! I mean, why say it, then? No, I want people to indulge me my bluntness due to my age ;)

i missed it again because of the olympics but i'm watching it now

Sorry to see the moms go! I thought they had a great attitude, and seemed to try real hard and work together well. I always like teams like that. And they did manage to figure out the "horse sense" task, that was better than some teams.

Still loving the cowboys, though. They're a hoot. And I thought the father/daughter team did great last night.

"We shouldn't reproduce." had to be the line of the night.

Yep!

I'm still undecided on how I feel about the brothers, but worrying about which color shirt to choose for the horse challenge was pretty funny too.

I don't remember which teams these were... but I thought laying across the horse "sidesaddle" and getting "bucked off" forward were also classic moments.

And I laughed at the cowboy saying he knew he would hear about not roping the hay bale on the first try. Those are some high standards he holds himself to. The other cowboy over picking out a live horse, not realizing he would be "riding" a wooden horse, was great too.

Great show tonight! I am loving the cowboys more each week. They are quite funny.

I agree. I think the cowboys are quickly becoming my favorite team. I guess I better go to the official website and figure out their names, instead of just calling them cowboy 1 and cowboy 2.

Yep, if you've watched even one season of AR, you'd think making sure at least one team member is comfortable driving a manual transmission would be a given.

Some folks have a really hard time with that though. We had a cute little VW Beetle (manual) and a cheap Daewoo clunker (automatic) when my oldest DD was in high school, and she almost always drove the clunker just because she hated driving a stick so much. :confused3

. :confused3

I think theirs are some of the only few I know at this point. (not that I know which is which) they are Jet and Cord ;) Perfect cowboy names.

The cops were funny too and one of them yelled "SPARTA" after the horse challenge :happytv:

They should know that in TAR the cars are standard most of the time. Remember on season 3 I think, that the cars were DISEL only and it had the label right on the gas tank door and some teams used regular gasoline  the had to empty the tanks, it was a mess.

I am surprised by how much I like Jeff and Jordan. Never watched Big Brother so not familiar with them but I thought I would hate them and I don't. They actually seem really sweet to me, although definitely not the brightest crayons in the box.

I also am surprised by the cowboys. I expected them to do well but surprised that they actually seem pretty nice too.

The beauty queen I do feel bad for...that must be incredibly hard living with that mistake your whole life. I don't know if I like them as a team, but I am glad that the sickness didn't take them out of the race...that is no way to go!

The father/daughter team seems ok too, but we hardly get to see them.

ITA with all of this! I did watch and love Jeff and Jordan on BB. Very down to earth and "real". They are a cute couple. :) The cowboys are fun to watch too, they seem nice so far.

I thought they had food poisoning and got dehydrated from that. But who knows! They really never clarified. I just hope it was not a virus and the others get it. I am always amazed that players DON'T get sick more often. Very physically demanding, strange foods and lots of crowds!

She was sick , I don't think he was sick and then I saw him with an IV drip too. Then when they got in the car they mentioned being dehydrated and not drinking enough. :confused3: Just happy they could catch up to the pack. I can't imagine how stressful and tiring the race is.

I am really cheering for the cowboys too. Loved that they pulled over so the others wouldn't know where to go because they knew where they were going. These guys are very smart and funny. Enjoy watching them race.

Loved that! They really are funny.

I still think the team to watch though is the father/daughter team (2nd place tonight). They are flying under the radar.

Me too. I really like the cowboys but also like the father daughter team.

I know. I was wondering if they had ever watched this show :confused3

I do not like the lesbians, they seem very nasty to me. I would have liked to see more of the grilling they gave the cowboys.....seems like they thought the guys would just answer their interrogation because they asked the questions.

I was little annoyed with the last team by the end of the show. They kept going on and on and on about showing that moms can do anything. Yeah duh! Who said they couldn't. :sad2:

Boy, they did know where they were going, too, huh? They still seemed to beat everyone there -- even after pulling off the road to let everyone ahead of them. Did you catch either Carol or Brandy asking how they got there so fast?

BTW, am I the only one that reads their name as Carol Brady if I'm just skimming? LOL!!!

From what little we saw of them, I liked them. I, too, was hoping for a non-elimination round, but agree they were not a strong team and knew they wouldn't be around long. I also "get" what they were saying. There are people in my life that seem to think I'm not smart or capable because I'm "just" a mom. Granted, these people are on the outskirts of my life because that's where I keep them, but I know they are there. Also the service people who ask to speak to my dh about a broken vehicle or something. They assume I have no clue. Now, these women do have careers, but I kind of like they downplayed those. Their dds may choose not to have a high powered career, and I think they wanted to show them they could accomplish great things even without a bunch of letters after your name. I also just thought they were nice people. They were complimentary to each other and the other racers. I'm also sure that's why they didn't get as much air time as some of the other teams.

Jet and Cord, so far nothing seems to faze them. They just go about the race, like it's something they do everyday. They are by far our families favs. Hope they stay unfazed and make it to the end.

DH told the kids last night, after the brothers had issues with the stick and Catie complaining about having to do all the driving, that this is why DS and DD will each have to learn how to drive a 5 speed. You may not need it all the time, but it's a skill that can come in handy.

And for the love of god, people, read your clues carefully. Jeff's blunder on skipping over the lead bandit instructions was beyond stupid, especially after Joe said something to them about the station. He should have stopped right there and SLOWLY reread the clue. :headache:

DS11 said last night. "It says 'dating' under those ladies names. But, they're girls. That's a silly typo." Looks like Amazing Race may be the catalyst for "the talk" about lesbians and gays. Please don't flame me, I'm not saying it's a bad thing.

I said this same thing to my family last night - if you are going on Amazing Race - know how to drive a stick. If you are going on Survivor - know how to build a fire without flint!
