THE AMAZING RACE 15, ~Season Premier~ 09/27/09 pg 64!

I agree, Luke is a big baby.

I've been watching this show for the last 4 seasons, and I have never seen anyone fight to get to the box. Luke is a spoiled baby! I dont blame Jen for reacting the way she did, he shoved her, if I was her, I would have knocked him down! I used to be a fan of the red heads, but I dont like how rude they are! They are so lucky they have cameras on them, because they wouldnt get away with that crap otherwise!

::yes::::yes::I thought Luke was a spoiled baby from about week 3. I admire the fact that he and his mother are adventurous to do the show, but my family has been waiting for him to blow. I agree to hold opinion, though. Editing can be so deceiving.

I am glad that they are editing IN Margie's thoughts now. Earlier in the season, everytime they talked w/ that team, it was her translating for Luke, and what he was thinking, doing, etc.

I think Lukes problem is that he is very isolated and insulated. In the first episode his mother said something about his not reading lips. I can't remember what she said exactly, but something about it and HOW she said it made me think "why would she do that to him"

I got this feeling, and it may just be me,:thumbsup2 that she didn't want him to be able to.

I just want to say that I know some Deaf people and took some American Sign Language (ASL) in college, studying signing and the history of Deaf in America. Deaf people have a culture of their own and don't view themselves as disabled or "less" than hearing people. Those born deaf never did hear and don't miss it any more than I miss being able to levitate. To them, this is the way they were born so they don't think it's necessary to read lips or speak. They have their own language (and it's not just signing English -- it has its own nuances and idioms and meets all the linguistic requirements of being a language just as Spanish, French, German or English do). Because they don't have hearing, however, the Deaf express things in ways that the hearing world would consider to be a bit melodramatic. For example, when asking a question, a hearing person may merely raise the inflection at the end of the sentence, "Are you OK?" But since the Deaf don't have inflection, their facial expression indicates the question by raising the eyebrows up very high for a question that has a yes/no answer, or scrunching their eyebrows close together in a quizzical expression for questions requiring more elaborate answers. They make extreme gestures to indicate strong emotions, and often show things by what hearing people would say are exaggerated facial expressions.

Please keep these things in mind when you see Luke. While sometimes he seems to sigh deeply, or roll his eyes, or make very obvious bodily movements or facial expressions, his actions are totally normal for the Deaf community and don't mean that he's overreacting. He's simply expressing himself the way that the Deaf do. Yes, he's gotten frustrated, but none of his actions that I've seen were "out of the norm" for Deaf people. He hasn't exploded the way some of the hearing people have in the past, although we might see him explode in the upcoming episode based on the preview.

I am going to reserve judgment until I see the episode when it comes to the shoving. What it appeared when I watched and rewatched the preview was at the first box the sister went to reach around Luke, which is what she should have done, and Luke raised his elbow. At the second box Luke, instead of reaching around the sister like she did around him, tried to go through her.

Of course even the full episode will be edited so you never really know. I don't want either of the two teams involved anyway because I like the Lawyers and brothers.

They showed a different preview during Survivor tonight. Margie was yelling something about this happens all the time to him and she was mad the girls were laughing about it.

Can't wait to see the whole story. Looks like three teams are there though, wonder where the brothers and the red heads are.

I just saw that preview too, and Margie was in tears, saying that the sisters were laughing at Luke because he was signing. No wonder there are such strong emotions. It'll be interesting to see what happened.

Thanks for posting this. I have a deaf cousin who I was actually afraid of when I was a small child. She's a lot older than me, so it wasn't like it was another child. Her larger-than-life hand gestures, and the unusual sounds she made, frightened me when I was very young. Also, all of the adults always spoke so much louder when she was around, this was confusing to me because I didn't quite understand what "deaf" really was. I had to have been a toddler... She was probably a teen at the time. She knew I was afraid of her, and when she saw me hiding behind my parents, she'd smile and just wave to me... and then eventually I wasn't afraid of her anymore.

I saw that preview too- if the sisters are making fun of him because of his deafness/signing/noises I will be so done with them. That's just uncalled for.

This is very interesting...thanks for posting! I don't actually know any deaf people, so although I didn't think Luke was overreacting, I also didn't know what would actually be considered overreacting.

Jen and Keisha are really blowing this out of proportion. The first one was an accident, and now they are just being mean. I wonder if it will come back and bite them.

Not sure what I think of the Luke/Margie and Jen/Keisha drama. Looks like a lot of high emotions on everyone's parts.

Just watched the big scene at the mat; I don't want to give anything away in case people are still watching... and as much as I like Margie/Luke, I honestly don't think the sisters were laughing at Luke. :confused3 I'm going to rewind it and watch a few more times, but they did show it twice during the show, and I think what got Margie upset is that they weren't taking Luke seriously when he was signing, but I don't think they were laughing at him.

Is one worse than the other, or as bad as the other? I don't know...I guess it IS rude to ignore a deaf person when they're trying to "talk" to you in the only way they know how, but hearing people ignore each other all the time, especially when they're annoyed with that person.

I don't know... I hope this all blows over, it was very uncomfortable to see how upset Margie and Luke became, but I think this may be a lifetime's worth of frustration for them, coming to a head in this race.

I think they were just laughing at how upset everyone was about it. It didn't seem like they were laughing at his signing at all. I felt it looked bad on Luke and Margie and not so much on the girls.

The first incident seemed more innocent to me. If someone runs up behind a deaf guy, and he couldn't hear them coming, he might react this way. Kind of like when you wake a sleeping person, and they awake swinging.

But everyone just had to keep it going. Why did Margie have to tell her son she called him that? Just adding fuel. She knew he would be upset.

I agree w/ PP--I just hope it blows over, and doesn't continue to the next day.

Agreed.
