The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

I can't say that I've actually paid attention at AKL but other resorts sell cereal in bowls so I'm sure AKL does also.

Another option would be to place an order with www.minimus.biz They have a huge selection of cereal bowls and all sorts of other travel size items. If you order $20 they have free shipping. They do a great job of keeping food and non-food items separate. I've ordered many times and shipped right to the resort. They are on the west coast so I order 2 weeks out.

Thanks. I remembered that they had cereal at the resort stores, but couldn't remember if I had bought my own cereal bowls along.
I already placed my order with minimus. :thumbsup2 I just figured I would pick up bowls at Target if I needed them. It sounds like I should only have to pack spoons though! Thanks, I appreciate the help!

Is Arusha view in kidani or jambo house? We are staying at kidani in a 1br villa for vaca not dvc in Nov and have been wondering if there is a special section of savanna view we should ask for.

Thanks for your help.

Arusha Savanna is the one viewed from Jambo House. Some rooms from both the Zebra Trail and the Kudu Trail face the Arusha Savanna.

Hi Kathy, how's your DH doing? Pixie Dust still coming your way!

What is the location of the CL rooms? I thought I saw somewhere that they are 4th floor (with the lounge being on the 6th)? Which savanna view do they have or are they scattered around?

Hi Kathy, how's your DH doing? Pixie Dust still coming your way!

He is being discharged from the hospital this afternoon (been in for 13 days!) He has a picc line for IV anti-biotic. We're requesting a home care nurse to help with administering the medication. I've gotten too frazzled with nerves and am concerned about not doing it right. His insurance covers the cost of the nurse. Keep sending the pixie dust.

The regular club level rooms are located on the 4th floor facing the Arusha Savanna, either on the Zebra or Kudu Trail.

That's wonderful news Kathy! having him home with you will help his recovery! good choice having the nurse come in to give you the piece of mind that his IV will be correct!
Sending a huge dose of Pixie Dust, enjoy having him home!!!

Nope that's not it because our oldest won't be coming with us next year, so I've only been putting in DH & our two youngest. I'm wondering if it was something with the reservation system. Now I'm getting the correct info and the rooms with the "garden/courtyard view" are CL one bedroom suites - standard view. Seriously, I'm not smoking crack! I was playing with the system all afternoon and it was describing the standard CL rooms all with garden/courtyard view! (which didn't make sense to me) And just now within a new session while I'm playing around this new category of one bedroom - standard view CL pops up (with the description of garden/courtyard view) and all of the standard rooms CL are now described with savanna view. I would think I'm losing it, but my sister was pricing out rooms too and read the same thing. Think I need a drink ... Anyways, thanks for trying to help me sort it out!!

I haven't been on for a couple of days but it seems like you finally found the answer. I didn't realize that there were some suites on floors 2-4.

I didn't think these sounded like DVC either, though a pp said they were. I read a long time ago about some of the CL rooms in the main building being taken over for DVC so I wondered if that's what they were talking about? I'm not familiar with AKL at all, so I don't know (I thought all of the DVC were in the new buildings).

The suite descriptions that are showing now make sense. What I was seeing this afternoon seems to have been the description for the "standard view 1BR suite-club level" showing as the description for the "standard room - CL". The "standard view 1BR suite-club level" wasn't even showing as a category this afternoon.

DVC is both in Kidani and Jambo house. Kidani, i.e. the new building, is all DVC. In Jambo House, floors 5 and 6 are DVC. The DVC concierge rooms are on the 6th floor.

In Kidani, you could be on either of 2 savannas: Sunset and Pembe. Sunset is shared between the 2 buildings and Pembe is on one the side away from Jambo House. If you want to see giraffes, zebras, etc, then request Sunset. If you want to Okapi, then request Pembe.

Is there one or the other that has more animals or the likelihood of seeing more animals? Thanks so much for the info as I had no idea. We have never stayed here before only visited. I would hate to be there all week with the kids and see no animals at all. That would be sad. Has anyone stayed facing either sunset or pembe? What were the results? Thanks so much.

I have stayed on both and have seen plenty of animals on both. One thing to keep in mind (this goes for all 5 savannas, each at a different time) is that each savanna closes for 2 hours each day. During that time, they take all of the animals from that savanna into the barns to check them out, provide any special care or food, etc. Normally this is done during the morning. So I have found that it is best to view the animals in the afternoon and evening.

The 2 savannas have different types of animals so that may be a good way to pick. Also if you want to see a larger savanna then request Sunset.

Also, there is an animal viewing area for Sunset off the lobby. So if you don't see any animals from your room, you can wander over there and get a different view.

The other thing that I have noticed from my stays at both buildings is that different animals prefer different sections of the savanna. So you may not see all of the animal types on that savanna from your room.

Hey lissiesmum! :wave2: Thanks for the quick reply! We are already looking ahead to next year's trip (pathetic as that is! :rotfl:) and are thinking about a split stay (AKL/Poly). DD8's life ambition is to be a vet (has been I think since she's been 2) and I thought she might enjoy a savanna view room and hanging out with the animals.

And yes, we have requested our favorite longhouse for our upcoming trip!

You're welcome! It's nice to see old friends! Looking forward to next year's trip is not pathetic at all...while I'm planning for 2011, I already have 2012 in the back of my mind! :rotfl2: I think splitting AKL and Poly sounds fabulous...I know there are lots of peeps on both the Poly and AKL threads that split between these two resorts and love them both for different reasons. If we could afford it, that's what we'd do as well, but we'll be splitting AKL and Dolphin, although I'm looking forward to our Epcot fireworks view room too! :cloud9: I just sent IPO my ADR info, and can't wait to find out if I get all our requests (we'll be there during Easter! :scared1:). You should also come join us on the AKL lite thread too...lots of great people and fun over there as well! :thumbsup2 Keep me updated on your planning, and I will definitely be thinking about how lucky you are to return to the Poly, and I hope you get Tuvalu again!

Thanks for the replies Donald is #1. I'm just curious, did they retrofit the DVC suites in Jambo with the kitchenettes that you usually get in a DVC villa?

The more we look into it the more we are excited about trying AKL next time. DD8 especially since she is so crazy about animals. I will try and remember to swing over to the AKL lite thread. Right now I am scrambling to get ready for this year's trip - it is coming up fast - just got our ME package today!

Where do you take your luggage to have it transferred to another resort for a split stay?

Yes, they basically converted all of the deluxe rooms on the 5th floor into DVC rooms. So the studio is just like the other DVC studios and the 1 BRs have a full kitchen like the other 1 BRs. For most of the 1 BRs (except the value one), they also contain a sleeper chair so that the villa sleeps 5. The difference is that due to the smaller size available the 1 BRs don't have a separate tub and shower. Instead the shower is built around the large soaking tub.

Over in Kidani, the rooms are regular DVC rooms with the bonus of a second bathroom in the 1 BRs plus the sleeper chair.

We just call bell services. They come get all the luggage, backbacks, food and whatever else we have. They tag everything and give us a slip with our number of bags and number of food bags on it (they will refrigerate stuff too). We tell them what resort we are transferring to. We usually go to a park then go to our new resort. When we get our new room we call bell service and they bring our stuff if it's there. I think it is supposed to be there by 3. Someone has to be in the room for them to deliver everything.

Thanks. We are going to transfer to Pop though, so no bell services there.

I think they have it there as well. We transferred from POP to VWL in May and they handled it the same way. POP was probably the fastest bell service we have had at the resorts.
