Thinking good thoughts for your husband KathyZ..

We are staying at AKLV for the first time next week! Does anyone know if there are any wi-fi hotspots in the common areas?
Thanks!

As far as I know, and as far as I have been able to find, there are no wi-fi hotspots at all.

DisneyWORLD has zero Wi-Fi hot spots anywhere for public use. DisneyLAND has one or two in a couple of hotels you can access right outside the parks as I understand it, but no Wi-Fi in the parks, as at the world. You can pay for internet and bring your own wi-fi router (password protect it if you do so your neighbors don't steal the bandwidth from you!) but it isn't free (unless you are a DVC owner).

Thanks PNO4TE and Golf4food. I thought that was the case but was not sure as we always bring the laptop but we just purchased a new ipad and was hoping not use the 3g the whole time. So I think your sugestion of bringing the wireless modem is going to be the way to go. Thanks again (bonus we are DVC owners)

Kathy Z you both are in my prayers any news yet?

Great news yesterday - the kidney tumor biopsy results came back as negative! The urologic oncologist has set a follow-up CAT scan and appointment to see him in 3 months.

DH is still in the hospital on IV antibiotics for an infection that was discovered. They still don't know the source of the infection. Other tests are ongoing but the main internist and the doctor following the kidney tumor think we can make the trip.

Vertigo was the first sign of illness and that began the first week in July. It is fairly well controlled with Scopolamine (the anti-sea sickness patch.)

We're still praying and hoping to make the trip. Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts. :grouphug:

Wonderful news Kathy! will keep you both in our prayers! Hope you DH is home soon!:goodvibes:hug:

Getting ready to make my room request. I want to make sure that I'm not over a people pen. So, from what I've read the best way to assure this is to request Arusha trail?
I think I'm going to word my request as such:

Arusha trail, closer to lobby.

Opinions anyone? Thanks!

Great news, Kathy! Sending more pixie dust!

We always request Arusha Savanna, Zebra Trail. The pool and restaurants are located on this side of the lodge.

I prefer a room halfway out on the trail. You get a better view of the savanna.

Kathy

I read in another thread where someone requested a roll away bed. Is this an option at AKL. If so does it cost more? And what exactly is a roll away bed? lol

I'm just curious. I was just on the WDW reservation site and they have "savanna view" and "Arusha view" listed as two different categories. What is the difference? :confused3 Is it just because Arusha is more centrally located & therefore more desireable?

Hi Maiapapaya! Nice to see you over here on the AKL thread! It's been awhile since we came back from Tuvalu!

Yes, like the Poly capitalized on the MK view, AKL is also doing the same. Arusha is more desirable, is the "center" of the Savannahs in the middle of the resort, and you are guaranteed to see zebras...although I believe the Sunset Savannah also has zebras...I'll be staying Arusha Savannah in 6 months, and can't wait! Are you thinking of AKL? I see you're going back to the Poly soon...are you requesting our favorite longhouse?

Hey lissiesmum! :wave2: Thanks for the quick reply! We are already looking ahead to next year's trip (pathetic as that is! :rotfl:) and are thinking about a split stay (AKL/Poly). DD8's life ambition is to be a vet (has been I think since she's been 2) and I thought she might enjoy a savanna view room and hanging out with the animals.

And yes, we have requested our favorite longhouse for our upcoming trip!

Family of 5 here, DH and myself...DD's 8 and 3 and our baby DS. Considering a split stay between here and CBR or POFQ. AKL would be for DD's 4th bday and would be 2-3 non park days(maybe a SW day for one but otherwise to just relax and enjoy the resort!).

I guess my question is...Well, I'm slightly confused as to which room type would suit us best?? Which are more convenient for families with younger children? (I'm thinking walking distance from stops, pools, etc..) Are the rooms with the views worth the extra $$$? We are pretty much talking two nights here so it's OK to splurge a little but I'm just not sure since I have NEVER been to AKL before.

DH just wants to book our whole trip for AKL but DD#1 is dead set on CBR and I really want to try two new resorts in one trip :) Thanks guys!
