Hi, I am staying at AKL in a Savannah view room in September. At check-in is there a Savannah/trail I should request if I want to see the most Giraffes? That's the most important animal for me!

Hi there. You are going to LOVE AKL!!

All the savannahs have giraffes but I must say that although it is my least favorite "Trail", the best giraffe views I have had have been on the Kudu Trail/Sunset Savanna. I will try and find a pic or two.

There is no WiFi. The internet is the kind you plug in, not wireless. If you are a DVC member staying on points it is free. Otherwise it is $10 per 24 hours for internet access. :)

I'm thinking of adding on one or two nights at the end of our stay to surprise my daughter. Since you can't check in until after 3 pm, is there a place by the pool to get changed into/out of your swimsuits? Do you have a key to show that you are staying there? (if you don't get your room right away, what do you do???) :confused3

Yes, there are changing rooms. I actually took a couple of pictures of it last February:

The entrance is next to Mara, on the resort map it shows restrooms there as well as the lockers.

You need a room key to enter, but I think you will get your room key when you check in, it will just not work on any room until the room is ready and connected in the system with your key. So I think it should work perfectly well to get in there.

Actually when we were there last Sept you didn't need a resort key to use them - they were always unlocked. Of course that may have since changed.

It hasn't changed. You only need a key after hours. No-one checks if you're a hotel guest or not at the AKL pool, atleast never have I seen it.

Good morning everyone.....we just returned home from our 8 night stay at AKL...we had a fabulous time...:thumbsup2 We were there from June 26-July 4.

The resort is beatiful! We had a pool room on the first floor. I didn't like being on the first floor at all, and would recommend something on a higher floor.

Glad to hear you had a great time!! :dance3:

We've booked a Pool View room for our Dec trip: why didn't you like the first floor?

Does anyone have any recommended Pool View locations?

Thanks for the info. Either way, sounds like we'll be all set and able to enjoy the pool while waiting for our room (or if we're really lucky, our room might already be ready!) :)

I can't wait to read all of these posts.. so helpful and I've only gotten thru the first two pages.

Zebra trail, overlooking Arusha savanna, half way down the trail, near the elevator down to the pool.

IMHO, it's the best location at the lodge. It makes everything a LOT more convenient AND it has, IMHO, the best views at AKL/AKV so far (we'll see what happens when Kidani comes "on-line" for DVC).

Thanks! Can I assume that the zebra reside on the zebra trail/arusha savanna?

DH & I have a standard room booked for our anniversary in September. Is there any better area for a standard room? Can't afford to upgrade to savannah view as much as we'd love to.

Thanks in advance................:cutie:

Hi everyone -- we are staying at AKL for the first time in January for 10 nights. Does anyone have a copy of the room service menu? I'm curious to see what kind of items they have on there.

The last time we stayed at AKL there were deluxe rooms which would hold 5 people. Since those are gone, what are our options 2 adults, 3 kids 3, 6, and 10 Thanks for the help

Please help. We need to know if there's table-tennis table anywhere in the lodge. Sounds weird, but the kids have been to the POP CENTURY resort and there's one by the pool...

I can't help you with a "better" standard room - but a Pool View room only costs $10 a night more ...

And - make sure your reservation has a note on it that's it's your anniversary ... you may just get some pixie dust ...(i.e. a room upgrade, if you're lucky ... )

Maybe someone can help me. Friends of ours are staying at AKV in march. She just called me and said someone told her the animals will not be in any of the savannahs then. Something about them being moved while construction finishes up. Has anyone heard anything at all about this? Did I miss something? :confused3

It only affects the Sunset Savannah. People have reported that those rooms will be considered standard view at that time. Not sure if that's fact or rumor. But the DVC villas are charging fewer points for villas on that Savannah during that time frame so it makes sense.

So if she books Savannah, she should see animals.

Thanks BCV23. I actually think she booked standard but was questioning whether there would be any animals at all to see while they're there. This will set her mind at ease.
