LOL that you talk about being woken up by others noise. On our first morning we were woken by two loud children who sounded like they were literally on our balcony. I couldnt believe how thin the walls were, at least until i finally got up and opened up our curtains. My mom had left our balcony door open all night! Those kids we heard literally were right next door on their balcony. After we learned to close thge balcony door at night ;) we had no more noise issues.

that's really funny! Glad you only had that one night of noise!

Congrats on the pixie dust/concierge upgrade you got! :cheer2: Wasn't it an amazing feeling? In my case I knew what concierge was but it didn't stop me from still looking 'stunned'. Isn't the lounge view amazing? Sorry to hear about the palm tree view from your room.

Oh, regarding the 'noise', we had that during our stay as well. It amazes me how inconsiderate some people can be that late at night but--that's an issue with hotels anywhere. ;) I feel for you being a light sleeper. I'm a heavy sleeper so fireworks could go off outside and I wouldn't notice...

So glad to hear you guys enjoyed your trip! Did your DD get to use the Neverland Club at all?

funny you should talk about the fireworks and you not noticing...the first two nights, we went to bed early and our neighbors were quiet. I remember being woken up though the first night and I heard these strange sounds that sounded like it was coming from above us (and we were on the third floor). I had no idea what it was and I remember it got really loud after awhile and then it disappeared entirely. I was so out of it the first night from exhaustion and didn't think anything of it until night number 2, it happened again...I woke up disoriented, and then I heard the same noise...I looked up at the clock and realized it was the fireworks (but it didn't really sound like fireworks???). Anyway, I chuckled to myself and fell back asleep. The next night was when the nightmare neighbors checked in!

We didn't use the Neverland Club. DD doesn't do anything without me :)

okay, here's a continuation of earlier!

so monorail was fantastic, even with it's minor hiccups! DD got hot and tired after 3-4 hours at MK so we'd "hop on the monorail" as she would say and we'd be home in less than 15 minutes. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a monorail, and it was so convenient. Plus, I loved getting off in that gorgeous lobby and looking around and smelling that smell of the lobby. By the way, does anyone know if they have some kind of incense or something, and if so, what is it? I just remember walking in and breathing in and closing my eyes and feeling so peaceful. The curtains in the room smelled like it too so I'm thinking it's some kind of scent they use???

anyhoo, I also liked the close proximity to the TTC. From Hawaii to TTC monorail to Epcot, at a fast pace, it took about 8 minutes pushing my DD in a stroller. It was a nice walk, and I loved the walk through the grounds. For those of you wondering about "bad" garden views, you really needn't worry. I did a lot of investigating through my walks and looked at all of the different longhouses and they all offer pretty views, even if it isn't looking at anything in particular. Even the parking lot view of Rapa Nui was lovely. And like I mentioned earlier, I saw nothing but leaves and I still enjoyed my stay immensely! Don't worry about GV views! One longhouse that I thought was so cute was Niue. It is set back towards the GCH and close to both pools and it's tucked away so that people don't really notice it. It has a lot of grass for little ones to frolic in (my DD loved this area to run!) Someone earlier mentioned Fiji, and I can confirm it was already fixed and back in business. There were people already there when I arrived and I remember the first day looking up at it with envy, but then being glad I got the upgrade later! It definitely has beautiful views from both sides.

The launch in front of the volcano pool was a nice ride. Much quicker going to the MK than coming back as you stop at the GF on the way home from MK. Another funny "stuck" story. We were going to watch the fireworks from the MK on Thursday night when DD decides at 8:30 she wants to go home. I book through the MK and fight my way through Main St crowds and by the time I get to the entrance it is ten to nine. I knew I'd be waiting for the monorail so I decided on the launch. One was waiting, and we actually got to watch the fireworks from the launch which was really beautiful over the water. We dropped off some folks at the GF, and then as we headed back to the Poly, we had to veer over because of the EWP...and the launch gets stuck in the middle of the lake :scared1: It was a little scary at first, because it's pretty dark out there, the EWP had moved away and the fireworks had ended. Our captain had everyone in the back move to the front and somehow got us moving again...still not sure what we got stuck on as we were nowhere near land???

We did walk over to the GF one night for the marshmallow roast. It was one of the highlights of our trip! The walk over was beautiful...sunset on the beach, torchlit paths, the Spirit of Aloha was starting up. When we arrived, they were playing music, throwing around frisbees, people were dancing, and roasting their marshmallows. DD had an absolute ball and danced in the sand for over a half hour. We would have stayed longer except we wanted to get back home to the lounge for the fireworks!

Concierge was nice. I definitely wouldn't pay the extra money to stay there, but as a courtesy upgrade, it was nice. DD drinks lots of choco milk so I never had to buy any, just asked someone and they'd bring us out a few to bring back to the room each day. I was given big bottles of Evian to take back to my room. I liked the unlimited drinks...soda, juice, lemonade, tea and drinks in the evening. I had that punch every evening with the fireworks and grew to look forward to it (and wish I could have one now!). DD enjoyed the choco chip cookies and I loved the hummus and pita bread every afternoon, as well as the cheese and crackers. Each night they had something different for dinnerish options. One night we ate there for dinner and had drumsticks, fried rice and sushi. Everything was always delicious!

We ate at 'Ohana for both dinner and the character breakfast. DD was not impressed with the dinner nor the entertainment, although we had a beautiful view of the castle lit from our table. We lasted about a half hour before we had to leave. Salad was very good, as were the sticky wings. Dumplings were dry as were the noodles. Steak and shrimp were fantastic and pork was dry. Bread pudding was to die for. I gobbled it up and wish DD was behaving so I could have had more!
'Ohana breakfast was really good. Food was fresh and plentiful. The character interaction was typical...quick visit, quick picture, off to the next table. If you want a great character meal go to 1900 Park Faire for either breakfast or dinner. We did almost every character meal possible and both meals were delicious and character interactions were genuine and outstanding! Prince Charming even asked DD to dance, and that was the highlight of my trip...brought tears to my eyes (and Prince CHarming was a hubba hubba hubba too ;) Too bad he didn't ask Mom for a dance:laughing: )

Anyhoo, I think that's it for now. If anyone has any questions about anything, please feel free to ask. We both loved the Polynesian. Last year at the WL, DD was ready to come home after about four days. This time, I'll never forget the morning before we left, DD woke up and looked at me and said, "Mommy, do we have to go home tomorrow?" and I said, "yes, sweetheart, we leave tomorrow". And what did she do? Burst out crying, saying she didn't want to leave the Polynesian! :sad1: The only other time I didn't want to return home from a vacation was when I went to Alaska for two weeks. This was a close second. There is magic at the Polynesian, and it holds you captive from the minute you step out of the bus. Oh, almost forgot, caught the torch lighting and it was a really neat ceremony to watch! I am torn about staying at the Poly again because I know we'd both go back in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't be able to afford it again for a few years. So now I"m in planning mode for my next vacation...do we go again next year and stay at a mod resort, or wait a few years to do Poly again? Time will only tell!

Wow, you should really do a trip report! This review is fantastic!:thumbsup2 We're going to be there in October!:woohoo:

A quick question if you don't mind...can you describe what it was like walking to the TTC? I know that sounds weird so let me clarify! Do you have to walk through the TTC parking lot too to get the Epcot monorail? We're taking my in-laws and my father-in-law is almost 80. I'm wondering if that walk will be too much at the end of day, you know?

Also, I was sooo happy to hear you did the GF marshmallow roast! I'm planning to do just that. What movies did they show?

Thanks! It sure sounds like both you and your DD had a fabulous time!:goodvibes

Not a weird question about the TTC...I also could not picture what it looked like! You literally walk the grounds of the Poly, past Tahiti and Rapa Nui, and there is a little walkway that you cross over to the TTC. You walk around the corner, and you are at the entrance to the TTC. From the edge of the Poly to the monorail to Epcot or the ferry to MK, it is about a one - two minute walk. There is no parking lot. The bulk of your walk to the TTC is within the Poly itself, depending on which longhouse. If you are worried about the walk, I think the longest walk from the TTC would be to Fiji or Tuvalu and it would probably be ten minutes tops. If you stayed in Tahiti or Rapa Nui, your walk would only be maybe three or four minutes. (but then you're further away from the feature pool and the GCH). I guess it depends on where you'd spend more time!

You'll love the marshmallow roast. I can't remember all the movies, but our night they showed Bolt, and I know another night they showed Cars and that Chihuahua movie. They were all movies that children would enjoy :) I wish we would have had more time so that we could have gone again!

Oh thank-you! :worship: I could not have asked for a more perfect description and answer to my question! It was exactly what I wanted to know. I felt kind of strange asking for such a ridiculous question but I'm trying to plan to perfect vacay for my in-laws and us. It's their 40th and the last time they were at Disney was before DHS and AK!:scared1: They are so excited and my hubby and I are paying for their whole trip! I just want it be as perfect as reasonably possible. Notice I said "reasonably"! Thanks so much!!:goodvibes:goodvibes

What time did they do this? Was it nightly? Did you get a list of movies from Concierge? Sorry for the barrage of questions-I didn't know the GF did a marshmallow roast. Did you bring your own marshmallows? I'll have to add that to my packing list.

mmouse37,

Glad you had a nice trip. The Poly was sold out when we were there in April, too. How was Vero Beach? I've been tempted to book a few nights there...:)

Vero Beach was very nice...the resort was very homey feeling. We stayed in the main Inn building and our friends stayed in a 2 bedroom unit in one of the side buildings and both rooms were lovely.

They do tons of activities with the kids and the pool is very large with a separate pirate ship water area for the little ones. There is also a large tower that has a spiral slide in the pool for all ages (I even went down it!!!)

There is not that much to do in the immediate surrounding area. We drove a good 6 or 7 miles to different restaurants. We also ate at the restaurants at the resorts and they were fine, but were always empty. I thought possibly that most people that stay there use their own kitchens to prepare meals instead of the restaurants.

We found it great for relaxing after our 3 days at WDW. We just hung around the pool each day.

I have pictures and will post eventually!!

Since it looks like you are a big DCL enjoyer, when can you start booking their new ships? Are you planning on being a passenger on one of the maiden voyages of their new ships? We have not been on a Disney cruise for several years (was going every year for a while there) and was hoping to go again when the new ships are here. Tried Royal Carribean once and did not enjoy it half as much as Disney.
Thanks!

Huge DCL fan!!!! 17 so far....I would love to be on the maiden voyage of the new ships....!!! We were on the maiden voyage of the Magic and would definitely do another MV....unofficial word is that booking will happen sometime in the fall of '09....but who knows for sure.

I am always on the cruise board....they are pretty good over there in getting and posting info and when a firm date is out it will be posted over there immediately.

Just back from 5 amazing nights at the Poly.

I mentioned how much I loved the gardenias the next morning when I was picking up my luau tickets at the front desk. Starting that night we recieved turn down service that included a gardenia scented linen spray. Our room smelled so amazing every evening when we returned. Loved it!

Volcano Pool was much colder than the quiet pool, but the slide was awesome.

I'll download my pics and post them later. Loved the Polynesian! Especially naps on the beach and the torch lit grounds at night. We did watch wishes from the tahiti beach and the music is played from the nearby TTC so we did hear the music along with it. The electrical water pageant was at the same time as wishes (9pm) and seemed to stop directly in front of the main beach for those who want a good view of it. It went dark before passing the tahiti beach.

So glad you had a good trip at the Poly! That story about your mother was lovely and so touching. It is truly a magical resort, isn't it? :goodvibes

We had an amazing vacation, and it was way beyond my expectations. I was called over and I started to ask the CM if it was at all possible to get some kind of side view of the lagoon. He said, sorry it's not possible because you've been upgraded....to garden view concierge! pixiedust:

The Poly itself is sooooo beautiful and relaxing. The grounds are so tranquil and the flowers smelled so fragrant. I loved walking at night with the torches lit.

I am forever spoiled by the monorail, although the entire week there were "technical difficulties" and "safety checks" being performed and we almost missed our CM ressies one night because we were stuck on the monorail for 20 minutes between the MK and CR. (on a side note, we also got stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean for 20 mins with all the lights on because the ride was experiencing technical difficulties!) more later, DD's awake :)

Wow! Congrats on the upgrade! :yay: I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip! It's too bad about the noise level and the low water pressure though. Tokelau had pretty good water pressure, and I got one of those huge box fans from Mousekeeping to deaden the noise. Couldn't have slept either without it. It can be really noisy in the hallways.

So glad you had a good trip and got to try out a monorail resort. :)

Plus, I loved getting off in that gorgeous lobby and looking around and smelling that smell of the lobby. By the way, does anyone know if they have some kind of incense or something, and if so, what is it? I just remember walking in and breathing in and closing my eyes and feeling so peaceful. We would have stayed longer except we wanted to get back home to the lounge for the fireworks!

(and Prince CHarming was a hubba hubba hubba too ;) Too bad he didn't ask Mom for a dance:laughing: )

There is magic at the Polynesian, and it holds you captive from the minute you step out of the bus.

I so agree with you. I love that smell! You are so correct - there is a magic there that I haven't found anywhere else. :goodvibes

Glad you got to go over to GF for the movie night, we never did make it there.

Bummer about Prince Charming - did you explain that you wanted a dance too? ;)

Thank you so much for explaining about VB. I want to take the boys there over NYE and take DH there next May and was dying for someones opinion on the resort. Glad you had a good trip! :goodvibes

lissiesmum -- thanks for the fantastic review. Congrats on the upgrade, too! We didn't hear any noises in the hallway, but maybe it was because we were at the other end (almost all the way down) so not many people were walking by us. Glad you and your DD had a magical trip!:)

3prettyprincesses -- how nice of you & DH to treat your in-laws to a trip to WDW and a stay at the Poly! I hope you all have a magical time!:)

mmouse37 -- thanks for the info on Vero Beach! It sounds lovely -- I'll be looking forward to seeing your photos!:)

Have a wonderful First Communion.:goodvibes We really enjoyed our day!

Our ADR date is 6/21 so I figure if the hours come out on or around 6/1, that should be plenty of time to get the requests to the IPO. I have all the decisions made, I just need to plug them into each day. :thumbsup2

Love your Cavalier! Noticed the picture and thought I was looking at MY Cavalier! His name is Goopy ... his registered name of Sammie just didn't seem to fit him; 2 year old granddaughter wanted to name him after her favorite Disney character at the time ... Goofy. She had a hard time saying "Goofy"; always came out "GooPy" and the name stuck! In fact, it's time to take my little Prince outside.............!

I love reading everyone's posts. It gets me excited for our August Poly stay (first one at Poly). I have a question, though. Several of you have mentioned the smell. I'm concerned, as I have MAJOR allergies and asthma. Many smells really bother me: for example, I can't use fabric softener, scented detergent, or dryer sheets. I can deal with a smell in the lobby, as I won't really be hanging out there, but I'm concerned about the rooms. Is it something that is pretty prominent?

I really don't think you will have a problem. I believe it is a smell coming from the atrium waterfall and foliage. It smells like water. (Is that possible?) I know that when we go to places with lots of indoor fountains, we smell that smell again. It's not perfumey or a fragrance.

I stayed in Tokelau last year and did not notice any added smell to the room.
As for the Lobby smell... I would describe it as an outdoor smell you get after a heavy rain or thunderstorm... rain forest-y....
:goodvibes

I had mentioned in my report that they used a gardenia scented linen spray in our room during turndown service each evening. i asked housekeeping about it and she told me that they sold it in the hotel gift shop as well. It is heavenly. But if you think it would bother you I would just let housekeeping know not to use any fragrance in the room.

My oldest daughter has many allergies as well. Perfumes make her sneeze and we can't even step foot in Bath & Body works! We stayed at the Poly Feb. 2008 and she was fine. The room didn't bother her at all. We ate at all of restaurants at the resort too and still she was fine. I really didn't even notice a smell in the rooms anyway.:confused3 The lobby smell does smell like fresh fountain water! I love that smell too!

As someone who also has very bad allergies (certain perfumes, cat dander, mold, cigarette smoke), let me assure you there isn't any very prominent scent in the rooms that would likely trigger an allergy/asthma attack. If you're really concerned, let housekeeping know. :thumbsup2

I love the smell of Gardenia! Might just have to mention that in passing at check-in.;)

Wow, I had lots to catch-up on... :surfweb: Welcome back to all of those that just recently returned, and thank you for all the great trip reports! :thumbsup2

We've never been to the Poly but after reading through this thread so many times and looking at all the photos we can't wait for our upcoming November trip. Last night I even had a dream we got a parking lot view from Rapa Nui... hopefully that's not what happens! :rotfl:

Everyone on this thread has been so helpful, and easy to talk to. Really we're a great bunch... must be why we all stay at the Poly. ;)

Someone earlier mentioned Fiji, and I can confirm it was already fixed and back in business. There were people already there when I arrived and I remember the first day looking up at it with envy, but then being glad I got the upgrade later! It definitely has beautiful views from both sides.

Wow.. every time we walked by Fiji it was empty....and at the end of the Longhouse where it intersected where we were (Tuvalu) there was still tons of construction going on with men in hardhats and all kinds of equipment....that was there our whole stay (we left WDW on Tuesday) so maybe they opened it up after that:confused3

Regardless, we had a great time and did anyone there that week see celebrity Hayden Panettiere around the hotel???
