I'm just curious....We had zero days of rain, but I was wondering what it's like at the Poly if there is a day or two of rain during your stay? Does it make it unpleasant having to run from building to building in the rain? Do they offer any "rainy day" activities in the lobby?

Aloha! We have arrived in hawaii! What a great experience! We were upgraded to club level lagoon view! Two palm trees frame the castle! WOW! my wife said " okay this beats the WL!" and in my opinion it does. I will send more later. Tess it is all waiting for you guys!

Awesome upgrade! Isn't the view from Hawaii just heavenly?:cloud9: Enjoy!:)

Thanks, I'll have to check it out! I really don't think I can wait two more years to go back!

I know the feeling...:rotfl: Definitely check for discount codes -- I wouldn't book a trip to WDW without some kind of a discount.:)

Wow, it's only been a few hours since I posted and there are already so many helpful replies. Thank you all so much!:goodvibes

Boy, and I thought I was lucky with my GVC upgrade! Congrats on your view! I would pause every day while walking down the hall when the mousekeepers were cleaning and stand awestruck at the view of the castle from the lagoon side! Enjoy your vacation, and keep us posted :)

I'll be there in less than a month after 3 days in AKV Kidani, kids don't even know about it yet........

That's what we are doing! We aren't telling the kids until the mornig we plan to leave for Tallahassee. We will stay there over night and then leave to check in at noon. When we drive in one day, we don't get there until 6:30 or so...having left that morning at 5:30. Yuk.

This time I will actually get to enjoy my first day!

Can you share what hotel you have booked in Tallahassee, i am looking for one...thanks:)

Can anyone tell me if they offer and vanilla flavored creamer for the coffee or if the machine has a vanilla flavored coffee?

DD16 is asking.:goodvibes

No flavored creamer or coffee--just Nescafe cofee at Captain Cooks/'Ohana and 100% Kona at Kona Cafe and Kona Island, and plain creamer. I so *wish* they had vanilla creamer there.

We are thinking Comfort Inn on I10, because we have to have a roll away as there are 5 of us. Which I saw that you need as well! It is North of I10, and has free breakfast.

Wow, congrats on the upgrade! Truly magical! :wizard:

How did you get a 40% code? I always see people talking about codes, but I have never gotten anything? Is it luck that they send it to you? :confused3

It's luck and marketing. I've gotten a few codes over the past 2 years but could never use them. Haven't figure out that system yet at all. It's funny because I gave Disney my personal e-mail address but somehow they got my work e-mail address (I think via my bookings with my TA). Here's hoping you get one soon because 2 years is a loonnnngg time to wait. :wizard:

:cool1:I have been reading almost all of this thread--- our 1st trip to Poly is next month!! I am a WL lover--- but I am celebrating 3 big things now through July so I splurged.... life is too short....and I can still pay my bills... so here we go!!

A couple of questions though... the more I read the more confused I got...
1)
Rooms: I booked a garden view and would like a balcony as it is ds and myself (maybe dd/dh for part of the time) and I enjoyed the balcony at WL as I could just go sit out there and have some quiet mommy time.... while he watches tv or whatever... and it being just us, I like the 2nd floor and up... safer? (paranoid)....
Ok-- what buidlings have GV rooms and balconies and are the best location... ds is 12 btw so walking a ways to GCH or pool is fine.... or should I just request the best GV and skip the balcony request?

2) beach- can't swim but the water--- can a child use a pail to get water to build sandcastles or it the sand too fine for that anyway?

3) In some of the pics there are these little huts on the beach- can anyone use those???

4) there is a desk in the room but what about a table? w chairs? or does the daybed take the place of the chairs? I have seen some room pics but haven't been able to figure out this....

thanks Jill

momjkm --

The sand is fantastic for sand-castle construction! My DD turned 12 during our trip in April and spent quite a bit of time playing with the sand on the beach. It's really, really nice, fine white sand.:cloud9:

The lounge chairs with those little "tents" over them (one hotel in Maui that we stay at calls them "casabellas") are free for your use.

There are rumors about the Poly getting real cabanas for rent, but as of mid-April, I saw no sign of them.

If a balcony or patio is very important to you, I would recommend making that your first request.

Have a fantastic trip -- I think you'll love the Poly.:goodvibes

momjkm, the desk has a small table on wheels under it. It serves OK as a small table for one or two to dine but we really miss the larger table.

All the rooms have a lounge chair.

I agree with mmmears. From what you posted, it sounds like requesting a balcony would be the way to go. All the longhouses have beautiful views of the gardens.

Regarding special places, let's not forget the spot on the 5th (?) floor right over the entrance of the building with the cluster of chairs and a lit fireplace. Awesome spot to rest, read the paper, snooze. Everytime we have gone, it's been empty of people. Also, from there you can find a door that leads to a balcony area looking out over the parking lot that has rocking chairs. So pleasant!>>>>

are the quiet places like this inside of poly to sit/relax ect???? might like to enjoy the views from inside (and the A/C).... I am a WL gal, soon to be a poly convert I think....

Mousturtle -- Just set the alarm clock to a static-y station and you have instant white noise. That should drown out the ferry. We do it whenever we're at a hotel to help the kids sleep.

I second the static on the alarm clock. Although sometimes I set the clock to static and in the middle of the night I wake up listening to a faint station playing bad music.
Also I hear you can request a box fan from housekeeping if that is your sleep aid of choice. We sleep lightly and need all the help we can get. Hopefully if there is a fire someone will come bang down the door cause I wouln't hear it with all this white noise :)

Even though our trip is a way off (to put it mildly) I have been really talking about concierge level to my dh. He is really interested but not yet convinced. One question is beer available in the lounge or is it just sodas, water and juices. He is not a big beer drinker, but on occasion he likes to have a nice cold one. I am a wine drinker but I don't have to have it.

Any help in convincing him that concierge is the way to go, would be greatly appreciated. Just give me some "facts" that will sway him. We will book our package in August and will have a little over a year to pay it off.
