Another driving family here

We will be making the 1158 mile trek from Texas. We have driven it before and with enough Disney DVDs and audiobooks it works really well. We leave Friday the 10th at about 2pm. We'll stop in Baton Rouge for the night and will drive the rest of the way Saturday the 11th. On the way home we are driving through Atlanta and visiting my Dad for Father's Day.

I read that gas prices should start coming down. We budgeted for gas to be $4.50 per gallon back when it was climbing each day. I am hoping for $3.50 by then, heck, I would love $3.00 but that's wishful thinking.

We're flying out of Philly and should be at MCO around 10:30 am and then taking the ME down to WDW, so I'm hoping we can be in the park by 3pm. We're gonna rent a car on our last day at WDW as we want to head over to Kennedy Space Center for a day and then we'll fly back. With the added car rental, extra hotel and kennedy tickets, I have so much more paperwork this trip. I just made my folder up so I have all my receipts and confirmation numbers in one place. 21 DAYS!!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Definitely count our crew in for the safari shoot! Sooooo cool!

As for how we are going....it's Amtrack for us. We leave at 9:30pm that night and arrive the next morning at 10:30am. I have FL Tours picking us up and taking us to ASMu. We were going to try out our new RV however the cost savings didn't amount to much after you considered the price of gas. For us it equaled out so DH didn't want to put the mileage on the RV or himself for that matter. :rotfl:

23 days and we are outta here!!!!:cool1:

OMGosh! been so busy here with work and life happenings... 24 days left for us!! :woohoo:

Traveling on 3 charter buses with 100 teens and 30 parents! from middle of AR (980 miles away) with pillow, blanket, kindle, Ipod touch and backup ipod! :music: :yay:

And I'm in for the photo game!

and SO much left to do!

Flying from Seattle. About 6 hrs. Renting a car for the first time as we are op in a RCI exchange.

6 hour flight from Los Angeles and then ME to BWV. We are arriving late (the time change kills us) and then if we are not dead... Magic Kingdom here we come!!! :cool1:

Dang, I got crummy flights from the West Coast! I went cheap, so we are flying from Portland to MCO with one stop in Denver. 7.5 hour flight, I think. Our flight home is 8.5 hours, with two layovers. ME both ways as well. :)

I've been thinking of changing one of our dinner ADR's to a Cape May ADR. I'm not sure which one I am going to switch out yet but I was wondering how far is Cape May from Coronado Springs Resort when taking the bus? I know sometimes its just faster to walk then wait for the buses to go some places so if anyone can let me know if this is one of those things that would be great. I'm really looking forward to trying the crab legs at Cape May ;)

Don't know about the difference, but I can tell you I tried to change our Cape May Cafe dinner and it there was NO availability for the week for us so it may be very tough.

Good luck!

We are just one month away now:woohoo:!

We are flying - we live less than 10 minutes from the airport:) and we have a direct flight.

Looking forward to some heat and sun, since it has been a cool and rainy spring here!

Some like it hot team members, as June approaches you and your family are about to set sail on a mission to the deepest and darkest recesses of Walt Disney World. I wish you good luck and a safe voyage. For those of you who are strong and brave of heart, I have a mission for you. A photo safari, ten photographs you or a family member will take this June. Upon your safe and potentially penniless return, post them to this thread for all to enjoy. Are you up to it??? But wait, not just any photos will do. It’s time for the mission list.

Count us in!!!

I am IN for the photo safari!!!
Question for everyone: how are you getting there? Flying? Driving? Renting a car? Magical express? Yes or no?

:woohoo: We are driving and taking a train. We'll drive about an hour to the Autotrain station on Tuesday June 14th, hop on the Autotrain for an overnight trip, arrive in Sanford the next morning around 9am and then drive another 45 minutes or so to WDW. On the trip back, we'll drive the entire way. :woohoo:

Question for everyone: how are you getting there? Flying? Driving? Renting a car? Magical express? Yes or no?

Just curious!!

We are driving from the DFW area of Texas. It's a little over 20 hours and we plan to stop for the night somewhere in the Florida panhandle. We usually drive straight through but it is really, really hard to keep awake:drive: especially since the week before we leave we have a kindergarten graduation for DD#3, a promotion ceremony for DD#2 and a high school graduation for DD#1.

We're driving from Pittsburgh. The plan is to leave as soon as the kids get off the school bus (half day/last day of school). We originally intended to drive straight through but that would get us to Orlando around 4 am! Instead we will stop somewhere to sleep for a few hours.

We have three kids - our oldest (DD) has been in on the planning but my two boys (8 and 12) have no idea we're going. I can't wait to see their faces when they get off the school bus and we tell them to get in the car because WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!

That is sooo cool! I could never keep it from our kids from that long...I think I'd burst! :lmao: However we have managed to keep two surprises from MOST of them. They still think we are driving...when we are taking a train on the way down. My youngest DS6 just LOVES trains...so he's going to be so thrilled! My DD knows about the train...but we've thrown her a little off the scent by telling her we may have to change our plans and just drive.

Also the kids think we are leaving between midnight & 3:30am on Wednesday morning, the day after school gets out. We originally planned a 3:30am time but have told them we may leave earlier...like midnight. However in reality we are leaving a day EARLIER! My DS11 graduates from fifth grade Tuesday morning at 9am. Ceremony should end around 11am. We are going to then yank the other two kids out of school, head home, drop off their school stuff and hit the road for the train. We'll have our other car packed already...which I just realized I have no idea how we'll do that one! DH has to drop off our dog at the kennel by 9am that same morning. Hmm...better rethink this one I guess since he can't drive the packed car to the school and still surprise them. :confused3

Dallas Lady and Mommystieg...wow to both of you for driving from Texas! We also live in the Dallas area and there was no way we were going to drive with three kids in the van so we penny pinched to fly. First time flying as a family too:)

1) Have you received Mickey Mail? If so, what? A PhotoPass card. Another family is joining us and I am still waiting :rolleyes1 for their ME stuff.

2) Do you pack specific clothes just for Disney (shirts, shoes, etc)? If so, let us know what. We color coordinate our outfits each day.

3) Do you recommend online check-in or not? Why? Sure - everything is good to go when you get there.

4) Are you making a specific room request? I should have asked for an Ecpot view....hopefully we won't get any of the rooms featured on the "Worst Views" thread.

5) Name 5 things that we should NOT forget to pack for Disney? Sunscreen, sunglasses, spare shoes, camera, memory cards

6) Give a restaurant review of one of the places on the June list that people will be visiting. (see page 1- pick any restaurant and review) We love the breakfast at Cape May. The food is good and fresh, the service is outstanding and the character interaction is awesome:thumbsup2

7) Give a hotel review for a place on property. Tell someone your favorite thing to do at that hotel. (see page 1- pick an hotel and tell your favorite thing to do) We love the Beach Club and it's all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! We enjoy the short, quiet walk to Epcot or a nice boat ride to DHS. The Boardwalk area has lots of fun stuff to do and good food to eat. And don't forget about Stormalong Bay!! Our favorite thing to do at the Beach Club is spend some time at Stormalong Bay and then stop by Beaches and Cream for a snack:cloud9:

8) Would you be interested in a DisMeet for June? Sure. We already have a small one planned with a friend I met on the DISboards who lived in the DFW area but moved to Orlando about 3 years ago.

9) Are you going to sport your LGMH or June logo? If so, should we stop and say hello? I need to make a trip to Home Depot to replenish our supply of LGMH. If you see us, it's DH, me and the three princesses in my signature line, please stop by and say hello:wave2:

10) What things should we remember to do for while we are away? (Ex: have cats fed, stop mail, stop newspaper?) Turn off the water to the toilets. Our neighbor came home after a couple of days out of town to find his house flooded by one of the toilets in the upstairs bathroom. He had to replace all the carpet on the first floor:sad1:

We usually drive all night so the kids sleep A LOT but this time we are going to drive all day. The girls each have their own portable DVD player, the two younger girls have DSi's and between DD#1, DH and me there are three iPhones so they can listen to music or play games. I just need to grab DH's phone and download some games for the girls on it.
Wow to you for flying with 5 people -- that takes some insane packing!! We flew to WDW when we cruised in December of 2009 and the lady at the ticket counter commented on our packing ability. It was 5 of us with only one checked bag and 2 carry ons apiece. Boy was it tough getting everything packed when it was time to come home:rotfl2:
