We just returned from the CR. We stayed Aug 29 - Sept 6th. The lobby did have a strange smell - sort of like dead flowers maybe. My wife did not smell it and thought I was crazy which is not a stretch....ha ha! Anyway, we absolutely loved the CR. Full review here.
Glad you had a great stay at the CR!

You mention in your TR that the restrooms in the parks were very clean. Many people were reporting late spring/early summer that the park restrooms were much dirtier than they had ever seen them on prior visits. I was glad to read that you felt that they were clean and essentially back to "normal" WDW standards of cleanliness.

Thanks for posting...I like reading all reviews, we are staying at CR for our Dec trip and can't wait.:santa:

Thanks so much for the fabulous review. The Cali Grill is one of our favorite restaurants in Disney.:cloud9: We are headed to the CR next July so reading your report was super sweet. Thanks again for sharing.:flower3:

Personally I would ask to be higher, cause I think the view is better (although some say its the some on the lower floors) and then if you have light sleepers in your party, ask to be on the opposite side of Chef Mickey's, because some claim they can hear the noise and others claim they don't hear a thing...
Have a magical trip!

My family and I stayed at the CR last November. We had a MK view room on the 11th floor and were right above Chef Mickey's. The music from CM's was very loud (it easily penetrated our room door) - so loud that we wondered how the people eating down there could stand it. Did it bother us? Not really, but we would have preferred to be farther away from the restaurant. To be honest, I can't imagine how anyone can post that they "don't hear a thing" while staying in a room near CM's b/c you're absolutely going to hear the music and some crowd noise. We'll be back at the CR this November (MK view) and the two requests I made (agreeing with spaceace) were to be as high up in the tower and as far away from CM's as possible. You really can't go wrong with that advice IMHO.

BTW, I've been staying at the CR since I was a little boy in the 1970's and absolutely love the place. Last year's trip was my two sons' (8 & 5) first stay at the CR and they fell in love with the place as well. They now agree with me (as does my wife) that the CR is the best hotel in Disney World. I also made an ADR for CM's during our upcoming stay so I'll let you know how my eardrums hold up after dinner there. ;)

While you're right that part of the music from Chef Mickey's can be heard from the insde from your room, I personally didn't find it that bad. So I guess everyone is going to have a different opinion about that.

Here are some of the pictures I took at Top of The World Lounge. There are more at the link that CR-Fan put up. Thanks again Cr-Fan!

I noticed that Craig from contemporaryresort.net has added pictures from the Top of the World lounge at Bay Lake Tower, so I added that link to the 1st page in the Bay Lake Tower section.

Thank you so much for the fabulous pictures. My favorites are of the CR at night and MK. They are post card pic's.:cloud9:

CR does movies on the beach at night, right? Do they also do a campfire and smores?
Yes on select nights during the week they do play the movies on the beach, however I don't think they hvae the campfire and smores. I believe that's done at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
