oh thank you! coffee should not be this important, but sadly, in my life now, it is!

any thoughts from anyone on the contempo cafe in general? (not just coffee ;))

The coffee bar (I forget the exact name) is different from the Contempo Cafe. The coffee bar is on the first floor in the front right, before you hit the lobby and check in/out lines on your left. It's styled like a starbucks-type counter, order at the register, pick up at the end of the counter, add your own sugar and milk, etc.

The contempo cafe is the counter service restaurant on the fourth floor, where you order from the computer screens, pay (which actually activates the order) and they'll give you a beeper to come back to pick up your items. We ate breakfast one day (egg sandwiches), and lunch another (burgers), and both meals were very good for a counter service. We thought much better than Gasparilla Grill (GF) in 2009, though GG has had a complete menu change since then. The lunch salads looked very good, I definitely plan to try one in April.

Okay, I have a couple of stupid questions about the Wifi:

1. Are they just testing this out or is it here to stay?

2. Is the free Wifi just accessible in common areas of the resorts or also in your room?

Just back from CR Sunday (sigh). We had a great stay.

I was thrilled to have free WIFI! It is available in the room. It's pretty fast but randomly knocked me off line a few times.

Hopefully it's a permanent upgrade to the resorts.

I believe it's here to stay maybe CR Fan 4 Life can confirm

2. Is the free Wifi just accessible in common areas of the resorts or also in your room?

Yes both in the rooms and common areas.

DD was able to access it on her IPOD in our room

Thank y'all so much! I hope they keep it around so that I can have internet (without paying for it) during our December trip. :goodvibes

Where's the best place to view Wishes...Contemporary Viewing area or the Poly Beach? (Or would another alternative be the Contemporary Beach?)

Where's the best place to view Wishes...Contemporary Viewing area or the Poly Beach? (Or would another alternative be the Contemporary Beach?)
I would say it's the 4th floor observation deck because you will be as close as possible to the Magic Kingdom without being inside on Main Street.

Where's the best place to view Wishes...Contemporary Viewing area or the Poly Beach? (Or would another alternative be the Contemporary Beach?)

I have seen wishes from the poly beach and I have seen it from the California grill many times. I prefer the Poly due to the head on view of the castle along with the fireworks. If you prefer the up close view then the CR would be your best bet.

I like the head on view because the fireworks look like they are coming out of the castle. At the CR you can plainly see there are several locations the fireworks are launched from. I must admit it is really great to have them right in your face! So.. My advise.. Watch them in both Locations and come back and tell us!!:rotfl2:

We just got back from our long anticipated Marathon Weekend adventure~

We stayed at the Contemporary with a large group of friends and family for all the Marathon Weekend events. My DD9 and I got to go early to take care of the running packets and to have some girly time. We stayed one night at the Polynesian and 3 nights at the Boardwalk Inn before checking into the Contemporary. I love trying new resorts and have to establish that the Polynesian is our "home" resort, where our heart has always been. But let me say, after staying at the Boardwalk Inn, I can understand why CR Resort Fan 4 Life just loves it! It was the nicest Disney resort we've ever stayed in, including the Grand Floridian.

We stayed at Bay Lake Tower this past summer, so we were familiar with the CR's property and ammenities. We very much enjoyed them then and just loved, loved, loved BLT. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We ran the Marathon Weekend events with a charity organization, so got a group discout rate at the CR which was decent. The rooms block was for the Garden Wing rooms. I wish they were in the tower, which is really where my kids would have loved to have been, but we didn't have that option.

I would probably not choose to stay at the CR again (but like I said, would stay at BLT again in a heartbeat!), but there were some pros and cons to our stay. These were just our experiences~

Pros:
Obviously location, location~
awesome for the walk to the MK, the monorail access and boats
We had a view of Bay Lake, and I love the location of the pool and beach off Bay Lake. Peaceful and beautiful!
We actually like the pools and hot tubs, the water in the hot tubs was actually hot enough
Water pressure in the showers was good and water got hot, unlike some other resorts
The beds are comfy
We like Contempo Cafe...we thought the food was overall good, breakfast...eh. We ate there a lot since our focus was the marathon activities. Got tired of the food, but that would be anywhere (except maybe at Pop or POR) CMs at Contempo Cafe were VERY friendly and helpful.
Mousekeeping was good, although the room cleanliness and condition was poor at check-in. Did not come to do rooms until late in the afternoon. That was just the rotation schedule.

Love the fireworks views and the Electric Water Pageant

Cons:
(Some of this is personal preference)

We did not like the location of the Garden Wing~ it's not a far walk, but inconvenient enough with 1/2 marathon runners and marathon runners in our group to walk even that much further to get drinks, get back to room, etc.
True, many other resorts have the same distances to ammenities from rooms, longhouses. Just felt like a completely different hotel to us.

We were disappointed with the condition of not only the rooms but of the common areas of the Garden Wing itself. The entry ways (walking by the service gate is unappealing in itself), sidewalks, hallways, floors, walls, etc. are just so scuffed up and poorly maintained in our opinion. Everything just looked like it needed a deep cleaning and freshening up. The hallways smelled like a nursing home. I'm not the only one to have made the observation.
One of our friends had to change their rooms becuase it was very unclean~ a lot of dust, grime and especially the bathroom just not clean. They changed rooms and were very accomodating about it. The rooms were surface clean but not much more. The curtains that are very close to the bed (guests heads inches away) were filthy as were the windows. We had a lot of rooms booked, this was the common theme of the rooms we looked in all.

I know these resorts get high traffic and a lot of wear and tear, but cleanliness in my mind is non-negotiable.

The water in the circular "quiet" pool was warmer, but in the regular pool, it could not have been heated. The water was downright frigid. It was nice in the hot tub, but the pool water was undoable, even by the kids in our group.

We've eaten at the Contempo Cafe, The Wave and California Grill many times and I have to say, the overall food quality has declined in my opinion, but my experience with this trip is that it was overall Disney, not just CR restauarants. Disappointing, we really like Disney food. There were still great things, just an overall observation.

I know there are a lot of CR lovers on this thread, we really did like aspects of our resort stay here, just wanted to give our fair and honest experiences.

I would not discourage anyone from staying here, just go with realistic expecations that any Disney resort has it's pros and shortcomings. CR is a classic and I truly do appreciate it.

:flower3:

carlnix30, I followed your Polynesian livestream, I would love if you do one from the CR! :yay:

Thanks for the honest and balanced review, Minniebeth:thumbsup2

The CR is a classic and has really nice-sized rooms. That, along with the location, makes the CR a good choice if you spend alot of time at MK. However, the Mousekeeping is always lacking in my experience.

In 1994 we stayed at the Contemp and the room conditions were so bad....cobwebs, grime, even bloody sheets from a previous guest:scared1: We swore we'd never return but we did with a last minute trip in 2001. We ended up in the forever gone now North Wing. The room was better but the mousekeeping was still sorely lacking.

With all that being said, DH has a conference at the CR in Sept, and with the great conference rates, we just can't justify staying anywhere else.:headache: I was sure hoping that the CR was on an upswing and things had improved lately....

...poohgirl6...you reminded me, and I must add that yes! the rooms are an awesome size...we had two connecting rooms for my family~ 2 adults and 5 kids, so the room sizes made it very comfortable for all of us!

I hope you have a good stay in September!

I am going to arrive with a fresh slate attitude:wizard: Hopefully, I'll be pleasantly surprised. Whatever happens, I'll be sure to report back here;)

I am just grateful that DH's conference is providing a way for us to go this year:love:

That's the perfect attitude to have. We didn't love CR (except the MK view, unbeatable), but we're looking forward to trying BLT. However, one of my coworkers has stayed in many Deluxes and always ends up back in the CR Garden Wing. For whatever reason, that's just their happy place, and I'm sure many others feel the same way about the CR in general. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Please come back and tell us about BLT....I think it looks awesome:lovestruc

All WDW resorts seem to have their haters + their devoted fans....as long as I'm at WDW..I can deal:cool1:

We stayed at the contemporary --it was good. we actually stayed in the buildings behind the larger building. I booked online somewhere and wanted the contemporary and the put us in the buildings. Just a tip: if you are booking there make sure it is in the large building itself -- and not in the buildings behind the contemporary. they are technically part of the same hotel, but it's not as awesome as it would be to stat in the contemporary.

This might be true, but there is a significant price difference between staying in a Garden Wing and the main Tower;)
