Hi everyone,
I have learned so much on this board so I thought I would share our experience. We just returned from a 4night/5 day stay at the BLT-dedicated 2 bedroom--room #8124--11th floor--MK view. It was very very nice.
A few things to mention: We drove 9 hours with 6 small kids ages 7 and under. We arrived about 330pm--check in isn't until 4pm--when we got there they said our room was not ready but they would text us. The CM said maybe 15 min, but he couldn't guarentee how long it would be. My husband's parents room was ready--a studio--so all 11 of us piled in their room. After about 20 min my husband called just to check on it b/c there were no mousekeepers even on the floor and they said we would be on the same floor as his parents. When he called, they acted clueless, but said they would send up a runner to the room we were supposed to have and for us to call them back in about 15 min. they said maybe mousekeeping forgot to put it in the computer as clean.
After 15 min, my husband called back, again a clueless CM--but we were being very very patient and kind b/c things happen and communication can get lost when speaking with so many different CM's--after explaining our situation again, DH finally got a text that the room was ready. It was now about 445pm--an hour had gone by. needless to say 11 people in a small studio room was very hard and tight. We were all exhausted. swimsuites were packed up so we couldn't get to them to go to the pool so we waited it out. Plus with 6 kids ages 7, 6, 5, 3, 3 and 1--it is hard to move everyone safely.
We got in our room and settled. Excellent room and location. But I was very surprised at Disney's response to this situation. It was really like they didn't care. I can understand the room not being ready if we are early--but by 4pm--check in time, when you have driven 9 hours with all those tired little kids, the last thing you need is a longer wait--I do expect the room to be ready at their designated check in time. We now know, the room was actually ready, just not put in the computer correctly so it appeared as not clean when it really was. Disney didn't offer to help us out in any way as we waited. I just read above that when someone's room in the Contemporary wasnt' ready (even after a request for a different room, they gave them funds to get lunch)--what is up with that and then they do nothing for our family?
We had another incident which I will explain in a minute. But honestly, it seemed to us to be this situation: we got the impression that the CM's at the Contemporary are frustrated to deal with people from Bay Lake Tower. We paid cash for this trip. $5000 to be exact. for 4 nights (incl park tickets and we had free dining). The other incident we had was the night before we left, my DH called and asked if he could use a cart from bell services. The answer was No, the Bell man has to help you. Ok, I can understand that and yes, that means we have to tip (or we feel like we do if someone helps us). They said they would send someone up. After about 20 min, no bellman, my DH called again, they said they sent someone up and they knocked and no one answered. We were there waiting with the door cracked, obviously they went to the wrong room. They were snippy with DH and didn't appologize. The bellman came up and we got our stuff loaded. Where is the customer service --or even being nice about things?
Now these are the only 2 times we had any interaction with guest services or calling for assistance with anything. And both times, they were less than magical. Not even nice about it. We really felt like second class or that it was our fault for staying in BLT. We felt like BLT is just an inconvenience for the CM's and Bellmans. Afterall, they do have to come from the Contemporary to help people in BLT.
Mousekeeping was great. Our room was great. Loved the resort. We just were very dismayed with guest services. And to start off our trip with the room issue--then for them to put it in our lap to call them back and see if it was ready---it just didn't seem to be Disney service at all.
I am sure many of you will disagree with our take on the situation. Please do not flame me. I just wanted to voice our experience. I am perplexed why it is this way or at least our perception. We would like to stay at BLT in the future. But it really made us think if we ever wanted to buy into the DVC and have that be our home resort. The service was not good from guest relations.
anyway, just wanted to see if you had any insight as to why we experienced what we did? Again, overall it was a great trip and good stay.

Hey all!

We are back from our Labor Day weekend stay at the CR. I was worried it would be weird staying in the wing again after a MK View in the Tower back in June but it was just fine!! :thumbsup2 We were in room 5352 (3rd floor, standard view) and you can imagine our surprise the 1st night when we looked out our window and saw this:

We almost saw more of the fireworks from this room than our TPV room at GF's RPC :rolleyes1

Also, for anyone on the fence about visiting over the holiday weekend and crowds

This was Frontierland at 10:15am on Friday...

It was great to be back at the CR and even DS is on the fence about trying the BC next June, so it looks like we might be back in 2011 after all :wizard:

(Also, the walkway from BLT to the CR was closed due to "maintenance" for the last half of our trip)

Wow, Cinderumbrella, what a nice surprise re: the view!

And Frontierland . . . OMG -- I cannot believe it was so empty. Very jealous . . . we go in June and I could never imagine it like that.

Sorry about your bad start to your trip. However check in time from DVC resorts is FROM 4pm.

Also it is usually best to go to the front desk as if you call even from in the resort you are getting a call centre.

When we stayed at BLT we found the CMs at the CR nothing but helpful.

i am hoping what we experienced was a fluke.
also, my husband started with the front desk. he was physically there-that is when it began to go downhill. in hinesight, we should have just had all of us sit in the lobby--including all of our children. then they could see what we were dealing with with the wait. I guess going to his parents room made it seem like we only had a few people with us to manage. In the future, phone calls are out, we will stay close to the front desk--thanks for telling me not to call. it makes no sense to me they are so accomodating to some and then we experienced what we did.

also, we are not huffy people AT ALL. I even hesitated saying anything on this board b/c it seems if you have anything negative to say, people immediately jump on you and think your just hard to please.

when it says check in is at 4pm, I guess I just assumed it meant just that. 4pm. If I can't check in at 4pm, then what, I need to be ready to wait until when...? How do you know when to schedule anything? We had an ADR to get to at 640pm. I didn't think I was being unreasonable trying to check in at 4pm and then get settled and onto our ADR.

Honestly, if they had just been nice about it and said, I am sorry for the confusion, your room was actually ready, we made an error, it would have gone a LONG way with us. But it was like they tried to cover up the mistake. That made it worse.
We will go back, and we did have a good stay.

khanna,
While I agree what you went through sounded very frustrating WDW actually says on your confirmations that check-in time is after 3:00 PM for the Deluxe Resorts and after 4:00 PM for the DVC Resorts. I guess by saying the word after they are not responsible your room is not ready at that specifc time, however they try to get the rooms ready before those specifc times. Now before seeing it worded like that I always thought it meant the rooms were supposed to be ready at those specifc times and if we arrived at that time then the room should be ready.

Thanks for posting your review and it's weird that the walkway to Bay Lake Tower was closed again for maintenance because last month when I was there it was closed for the same reason, but it then re-opened before we checked-out.

Also do you happen to know if they re-opened the observation deck on the 4th floor, because that had closed for maintenance when I was there.

I just read above that when someone's room in the Contemporary wasnt' ready (even after a request for a different room, they gave them funds to get lunch)--what is up with that and then they do nothing for our family?

That someone would be me.

Believe me, I was shocked when the CM offered the funds. It is only dh and myself and we have been going to WDW for about 25 years, several times each year as we live in Florida and it is very convenient for us to go a lot. Things like this never ever happen to us. We also got the room upgrade without asking. I've always read about people getting pixie dust for various things and sometimes they book a standard room get upgraded to concierge level. Never us, even though I always hoped it would be. But, I guess we were lucky this time and it did happen! And, we appreciated it so much!

We went to the front desk a couple of times during the trip to ask a question and everyone we encountered was super nice. One time at the front desk, we traded a pin with the CM. He said that they have a pin trading book in the back and went to get it for us. I had never heard about that but were were able to make a couple of great trades from the book! That was so nice of him as we would never have known about it otherwise.

We just got back late Monday (Labor Day) from a 5 night stay. First time at CR. We were in the garden wing, 1st floor. We really liked the CR. Lots of room even with 5 people. Overheard youngest grandson (9) say a couple times "this is the life", lol. We were lucky that when we arrived at 10am Wednesday morning our room was ready. :yay: Only called housekeeping once for xtra towels, wash cloths & toiletries. When I told them there was 5 of us they brought a whole bunch of each item. Would have liked more storage but we survived. The only real complaint I can think of is the dim lighting in the room. Even with every light & lamp on it still seemed dim. All in all we had a great experience at CR.

We normally go the beginning of June too so it was a great surprise to see it so empty. Plus, the past 2 Junes have been so brutally hot that this weather almost felt cool :rotfl: (almost ;))

I was stunned to see it closed too :confused3 But only noticed the sign the last 2 days of the trip, so perhaps it had been open to that point?? As for the observation deck, I have no idea since we never go over there- sorry!

If anyone else has any questions, I will try to answer them!

Also, while I am thinking of it, if anyone has any Chef Mickey's ADRs coming up during the free dining rush, get there early to check in!! We had breakfast at the Contempo around 8:30am one morning, and the check in line was easily 50 people deep (stretched all the way back to the DVC desk just outside the Chef Mickey's Archway).

We are back from our Labor Day weekend stay at the CR. I was worried it would be weird staying in the wing again after a MK View in the Tower back in June but it was just fine!! :thumbsup2 ....

I'm glad to read this, we were at BLT in a 1 bed MK view this summer and then in the Atrium club at CR, next summer we've got 14 nights in a 1 bed standard view at BLT and I wanted to check into a standard room at CR after our cruise and wondered if we'd like it after staying in the tower so your post is reassuring :)

(Also, the walkway from BLT to the CR was closed due to "maintenance" for the last half of our trip)

It was closed during our summer trip as they were replacing the flooring as the original one was supposed to be too slippery. I'm surprised it was closed again so soon :confused3

I can believe that because I remember seeing the line for Chef Mickey's get very long. I don't think it went all the way out to the DVC desk on the 4th floor, but it was still very long when I saw it.

We could not get an ADR for Chef Mickeys. Our girls really wanted to go there, so they got up early and went down to Chef Mickeys right when it opened (7:00 am). We stayed at the BLT. They were able to get in and were very happy! :worship: DH and I ended up at Contempo Cafe for coffee and the line at 7:45 am was backed up (not as far as the DVC desk, but a long way).

We are begining to plan for our 2011 trip and thinking about staying at the BLT. There will be 4 adults for 5 - 6 days. I like to unpack my clothes so I need room for my clothes.

Would a one bedroom be large enough for all of us? Or should we look into a two bedroom? I know a two bedroom would be best, but I wanted MK view and I don't think a 2 bedroom MK view would be in the budget.

You should be fine with the one bedroom, as long as two people don't mind sharing a bed. The living room couch opens(holds 2) plus there is the chair that opens up to hold 1.
The dresser in the bedroom holds a lot.

I was impressed at the size of the one bedroom, MUCH larger than most that I've stayed in, with the exception of those at OKW.

Thanks, I'm looking at the rates now to get an idea.
I know that you wrote that you wanted a MKV, however, I would compare the total cost of a one-bedroom MKV to a two-bedroom BLV. The BLV is wonderful and can save you money which you could put toward having a second bedroom for more privacy and convenience.

Those are some very good points.
