I have a Nikon D50 DSLR, but taking it to Disney so often is killing it. My sling camera bag is well-padded, but the rides are just about to take my camera out.

So, I want to get a REALLY GOOD point and shoot that I can take to Disney with me. Something that has a short delay in between shots, not too pricey, works great both indoors and outdoors and somewhat durable.

I was looking at a Canon Powershot or Nikon Coolpix. The rep at Best Buy is pushing me to a Samsung SL605. (maybe they get a spiff for selling them).

A few other things important to me:
  • No over-the-counter batteries. I want something with a chargable litihum ion.
  • The short delay (as mentioned before) is VERY important
  • The ability to turn the flash off
  • Abilty to use it on a tri-pod
So experts, what say you?

i am a 100% canon girl.. i love my 5d...HOWEVER i do not like their point and shoot cameras....i don't like the color, i find myself editing the photos like i would my raws so i can get them to look normal. if i could, i'd pick a different brand but i'm stuck with my powershot. so if you like nikon i'd stick with that. :)

I like Fuji point and shoots myself.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about Samsung in general. My dad worked in thier tech support many moons ago.

Wow. Never heard anybody really complain about the color in the Canon PnS's. News to me.

I don't know if I go as often as you, but live about three hours away and go fairly often. I have not had any problems with the durability of my camera from WDW vacations. Maybe you need a bag upgrade. I used my first DSLR for over three years and it still looks and works almost like new. The only blemish it has is where I dropped it while at home and that is just cosmetic. I almost got a D50 because I thought it seemed very durable so I am surprised you are having problems.

Sony has the Sony Nex on sale for $700 which includes both lenses. Can't beat it! I'm loving mine!

i guess i'm hard to please. haha, like i said, i love my 5D..but i end up processing all my point and shoot jpgs as raw files in cs4. maybe i just didn't go high up enough in the line. i didn't wanna spend an arm and a leg since i already had an slr.

And I have to admit I've never owned or played with the Sub-about-$250 stuff much either so I really don't know either.

Love my T2i. Love my 3500. They both server the purposes for which they were purchased quite well.

Well, I actually have TWO foam formed bags. one is a Lowepro back-pack and the other a sling. They are well padded, and should be for $75 and $100 respectively.

The "experts" at Wolf Camera suggested that being tossed around on Big Thunder Mountain, RnR and rides of the like have caused it some damage. There is something (small) loose on the inside, but it will still take photos. Other than that, my camera is 5 years old and babied. It has seen many Disney trips, cruises, birthdays, Christmases, etc. :confused3

I just bought this one, but am not sure I want to keep it. :upsidedow The quality is great and it has a lot of features, but it stinks when it comes to zooming. I will give it a few more days and let you know.

I decided to keep it. :) This really is a great camera. It is so tiny to me though - I am used to a DSLR.
