Tanya, I know you specifically meant me because they don't come any "stranger!" :goodvibes

That's for sure, Marv. And Tanya you can always blame the spelling errors on Marv...he's used to it.

I'm so glad to hear things are going well.

No flour ever into the Lebkuchen!! The dough is very sticky and it should not be kneaded. There are different kinds of Lebkuchen, but the recipe we gave you is for the most luxurious version (what else would be fit for you??), called Elisen Lebkuchen. Once you have the sticky dough in the bowl, you just need to have bowl with water which you use to make your hands a little bit wet (shake off any excessive water, it should just be a very thin film), use a spoon to portion off some dough (they can be different sizes, don't have to be as large as the ones that are made in the bakery) and then roll the dough in your wet hands to form a ball. Put that on the baking sheet and press it down slightly, but not too much (about so that it is half as high as the diameter of your ball was before). Leave quite a bit of space between them as they might run once in the oven. Once you have formed all of them, let them dry at a cool place (not at normal room temperature, but not as cold as the fridge ether, I would say between 10 and 15°C) overnight, so for about 12 hours. Drying them will prevent them from running into one huge lebkuchen on your baking sheet.

I also noticed that they were very light. I was wondering wether you were only using almonds? I think they have more taste if you use almonds and hazelnuts.

I hope this helps! If you would want a recipe for the other type of gingerbread (which would be more like a spice cake), I can dig one out as well!

Oh and in case anyone reads this and would want to try baking Lebkuchen, just say so, I can post the recipe! :goodvibes

I would like the recipes. Bitte :flower3:

Hi!!

I am here lurking. Tonya - awesome news!!!!!!

My back AND cable are out (I have cable Internet). But I have a bit of news. Not a kidney - but found out yesterday that Lisa, Lauren, her bff and her bff's sister and I are going to Disney!!!!!!!!

In 14 days.

Woo hoo!!!

:dance3:Very exciting news!:dance3:
Oh, I hear ya. My DH's response to my guest-inspired cleaning flurries usually trends toward: "Nory, just relax. Just ignore the mess, no one cares." If I think about this too hard, it makes me get very frustrated about certain seemingly unavoidable gender inequalities. So I try not to dwell on it too much!
Sounds like something I have heard before from my husband :headache:

I didn't mention that my DMIL had baked 3 loaves of her special Christmas bread and had frozen them- We all believe that she knew her time on earth was limited and had prepared her family for her home-going. She had also done some a lot of extra canning of peaches and jams and pickles that we are all enjoying this winter as well. It was really hard, Marv, to ice and decorate that bread knowing her loving hands made it, as she prayed for us last summer. :sad1::littleangel::sad1::littleangel:

That's TWICE as bad as what Tim spent! :scared1: I could never do that- guess we're spoiled here in the PNW!

It is exactly Jane Austen-ish; EXACTLY the kind of dancing they do in the movies like Sense and Sensibility etc.... The first dance that Jane dances with Bingley is one we do quite often called Comical Fellow; others we do pretty regularly are: Zephyrs and Flora, The Gothic Dance, and the Spanish Waltz. Most are done in lines of men and ladies, but others are done in sets of 3 or 4 couples. We sure have a lot of fun every Thursday, but the balls every couple of months are especially fun!!

The yarn was probably spun by the ladies' spinning/ yarn guild. There are quite a variety of groups that do different textile arts. I was thinking of Crissy (IfYouHadWings) when I saw those!! She calls it "yarn porn". :lmao::lmao:

That IS a lot of kinfolk!! My kids on both sides have only 11, and the 2 sides never are together.
Which is a good thing! Our families have COMPLETELY different dynamics! :scared1:

You so welcome!!

Oh Liesa, that is too sweet about your DMIL! What an incredibly kind thing for her to do, all of that canning and baking knowing her time was near! I would have cried. So thoughtful.:goodvibes

Ugh, our tree was $90 plus tax! But DH loves tradition (I do too!) so we always have bought from the same place since my first DD was 3 weeks old.

Do I detect a Jane Austen fan?? Oh please say you are because I adore all of Jane Austen's books! I can't believe that ball was patterned after Pride & Prejudice, so cool! That's it, I'm hopping a plane over there with my DD's. I think every girl in my college dorm was in love Mr. Darcy from the movie! I can recall nights where we'd watch all the videos which was quite a feat considering it's about 5 hours long!

That yarn is gorgeous, the colors are so bright! Too bad I stink at knitting (and sewing for that matter!)

I do have a ton of family but unfornutately we're all spread out now. But we manage to have an enormous family reunion every single summer.:thumbsup2

How funny that she was such a Europe fan! :goodvibes

Thanks for the extensive additional info for those lucious cookies! We did love them- and I definitely have plans to make them very soon again- since I have lots of left over almond and spice. I'm not sure I can find the ground hazelnut though. I could do them myself in a blender. :confused3

Good to know that the dough should be sticky. I had thought I had made a mistake or such. Phew! Of course water would help- why didn't I think of that??! And I did dry them, just as I had th sprigerle. :thumbsup2

:mao: :lmao: :lmao:Clean ing sno uh sn acks off com pu ter sc re en n ow...........

Okay, think I got the keyboard working and can read my screen again! Heading over right now to change my official Title on my TR!!!

I don't see any title change over there. Yet. Mr. Potaterchip.

Be on the lookout for my final clue about the contest that goes with a few other comments I have made to people on my TR already! I repeat, everyone is making the Ali-do contest WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY harder than it really is!!!!!!

I saw, but sadly, I think I still need just a few more hints and clues. My screen name is All7OfUs and you can PM them to me at your earliest convenience. :lmao: Just pretend NO ONE else is reading this.

Oh Liesa, what a wonderful memory to have of your DMIL while sharing the holidays with something from her own hands!!! I know it was special, rewarding and so very hard all at the same time.

All of that and even more. And lovely in every way.

I will be gone most of this weekend for a family reunion with my DM's family! They really wanted my Dad to be there and he didn't want to go alone, so I told him I would definitely come go with him. I know that is going to be really tough and special all at the same time too!!! QUOTE]

Hope you're having a great weekend- despite it being hard. Sometimes the hard things are the best things.

Your Christmas looks like so much fun! I can't wait until my boys are old enough to get into Christmas more. I would love to make gingerbread houses with them. Or would that be too girly for them? I'm sure they'd be willing to eat the gingerbread houses. :rotfl:

The ball looked really fun, too. It sort of reminded me of Enchanted.

I have to say, I really, REALLY enjoy having older kids so much! It's fun to do BIGGER, more diverse things with them (Legos and bedtime stories although fun, were getting old) like dances and Civil War demonstrations and games like Settlers instead of Sorry. You'lll get there- meantime enjoy the simple things! No, gingerbread houses are not girly. I"ve not known any boys who don't love to glue one, eat one, glue one, eat two, glue one, eat one....

Balls are super fun! And every couple of months! :yay::yay::yay:

I am doing a

For Tanya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that absolutely made my night.

That and the pretzel glasses. Which isn't in the same league as a new kidney!

Pretty pretty tree!!!!!!!!

And no, it's not too late for Christmas, I've thought about it but not actually posted, not to mention I haven't posted the Germany trip yet either! Thank you for sharing :goodvibes

Who doesn't love some pretzel glasses?? :confused3
THEY'RE FUNNY!

Yes, YES, we still are waiting for your Germany mini-TR!! popcorn::popcorn::

well thats okay then, cat meat is a little tougher though.
:sad2:

Nothing a crock pot can't handle. :confused3

Whew all caught up. I loved your Christmas update. The Mill looks really interesting. I love that type of thing. I am praying that the dr's are able to figure out what is causing you all this pain.

I love it when you pop in!! The Mill is a fascinating place! Definitely someplace I want to spend more time at!

I still have no answers, except it is NOT my gall bladder. :confused3 More later...

Oh Liesa, that is too sweet about your DMIL! What an incredibly kind thing for her to do, all of that canning and baking knowing her time was near! I would have cried. So thoughtful

It was sweet! I hope I am as gracious and thoughtful when my time comes.

Beware, I do tend to get a little sappy once in a while here- something my readers have to put up with sometimes.

Ugh, our tree was $90 plus tax! But DH loves tradition (I do too!) so we always have bought from the same place since my first DD was 3 weeks old.

Tradition is good- but $90!!?? :scared1: I hope you leave that sucker up until at least Valentines Day!!

YES!!! Totally! And let me just say, you don't have to be a dorm chick to have a crush on Mr. Darcy. ;) The dances are always Regency
English Country Dancing, but the themes that we come costumed in vary- we've done a "Literary Ball" where we came dressed as a favorite author or character from Classic Lit., then a Christmas formal, this next one is 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, and we will also this year have a Count of Monte Cristo (Regency), Sci-Fi, (that one oughta be interesting!) etc....

My daughters are having an "Austen Weekend" starting tomorrow afternoon. I think they're watching Emma (Bronte) Sense and Sensibiltities and maybe one other-depends on how much giggling they do between them. Now, I 've gotta figure out what to serve them all.

That yarn is gorgeous, the colors are so bright! Too bad I stink at knitting (and sewing for that matter!)

I don't knit OR crochet- but I do love the colors and things others weave and make. :cloud9:

I do have a ton of family but unfornutately we're all spread out now. But we manage to have an enormous family reunion every single summer.:thumbsup2

Every year?? That's great!! :worship:

ATTENTION!!! We have a date, we have some PLANS!

Do you live in the Pacific Northwest??

Wanna meet some other DISers who are planning some terrific fun together?

Then JOIN US for an evening of dinner and zany fun in Salem, OR on Friday, April 1st at The Macedonia Restaurnant in "The Reed Opera House" at 6:30!

If that evening won't work, we also have a plan to go on a wine tasting tour of the lovely Pinot Noir country in the lovely vineyards around Salem.

We've got some coming from as far away as the Big State of Texas, and some from as close as Salem itself. Won't you come along and be part of the excitement??

Please PM me, for more details or with any questions! We're all looking foward to meeting you!

Hey, your meet is going to be on my birthday! Too bad I'll be far away from OR -- it would've been the perfect way to celebrate!

How about you guys come to Vegas instead? :lmao: I wish I could come I really do! But I'll be on a plane home back from Vegas when y'all be sitting down to dinner. Oh well. I'll look forward to reading all about it :goodvibes

Tanya!! This is amazing!! Praise God they found a kidney, and I pray your recovery is going well and will continue so. Your in good hands, hang in there!! Brooke said it best in that we rejoice with you!! :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:

I don't mind sappy entries Liesa.:goodvibes And your post about your DMIL was very heartfelt.:goodvibes

Sigh, Regency dancing? Literary Balls? Liesa, you really need to move by me so you can coordinate this stuff so that I can go!

Your DD's sound perfect, an Austen weekend!:thumbsup2 Have they seen the movie "Becoming Jane"? Anne Hathaway stars as Austen and she did a remarkable job. I think there was maybe one inappropriate scene that I recall but don't hold me to that!

What to serve them? That's easy...tea, scones, more tea, more scones...easy peasy!:thumbsup2

I am SO jealous that you're all having a dismeet in April! I live clear across the country in the northeast! Can you maybe do a live streaming at that restaurant so those of us who can't make it can feel included?

Yay! :yay::yay::yay: We have a plan!!! I'm so excited to see you guys!!!

:dance3::dance3::dance3:

 I wish I lived close, it sounds like it will be a great time.

I do too!! One more happy DISFriend!

Hey, your meet is going to be on my birthday! Too bad I'll be far away from OR -- it would've been the perfect way to celebrate!

Can't think of any better way to celebrate a birthday... and Oregon is only as far away as a plane ticket!...

Such an awesome meet! I look forward to reading all about it!

I"m sure there will be so much to tell! (Isn't there always?! :lmao::lmao:)

How about you guys come to Vegas instead? :lmao: I wish I could come I really do! But I'll be on a plane home back from Vegas when y'all be sitting down to dinner. Oh well. I'll look forward to reading all about it :goodvibes

And miss out on Vegas? I think not! But hey, we'll think of you when we sit down to our VERY SPECIAL buffet dinner, that I dare not elaborate on now... :rolleyes1popcorn::

A date, a date, a very important date!

Except I will be late

:rotfl:

I wonder what kind of rabbit holes we can run down- and as long as we see you for a little while!!

I sooooo wish I could come to the Meet !!!:sad2:

I'm afraid I don't have any poles, Rosie!! :rolleyes1
