I will reply to your reply later, bút now I am waiting for it to be 10am because I need to book tickets to see Harry Potter on Friday with Katharina and our cousins (who are also our godchildren) - they are 14 and 12 and we will have a fun movie evening!

HI!!! I am just trying to catch up on replies, but am going to have to call it quits for the night. It is after 1:00 now, and although I'd like to stay up and help Bek finish this paper, I just can't keep my eyes open anymore.

The rest will have to wait until tomorrow!!

That's amazing that you have to buy tickets 4 days in advance! It must be pretty popular over there- I'm sure you will have a GREAT time seeing the movie as a foursome. Will you go out afterwards with them?? Good luck with getting those tickets!

I got the tickets! And I could tell that they were dissappearing quickly. It is the opening weekend for the movie and there are lots and lots of Harry Potter fans here in Germany... We will go out for a meal before the movie, most likely to a themed restaurant which tries to be an American Diner! The movie is 2.5 hours long!

Hi there Magdalene. It's good to see your light on here. I'm about to head off to bed myself, I just heard the washing machine chime (it plays me a little song when it's finished) so I'm about to get the laudry out and head to bed.
I didn't want to miss saying hello. I wanted to tell you how cute I thought the picture was of you while holding the wine bottle. You need not to worry about it being a bad picture, it's just perfect. Personally I think candid pictures like that one tells a much better story than the one's posed for.

Your family was so sweet to have gone through all that you did for Liesa and her family to be so welcomed in your home. I have a lot to learn from you and Liesa when it comes to hosting people in their homes. It's not customary to teach here in the states how to do as such. I know at one time it was (like when my mother was growing up in the 50's and learned through home economics), but not now really.
I think this was the part of Liesa's trip I was most looking forward to first.

Hi Camille, great to see you, too! How nice that your washing machine plays a little song, mine only make a nasty "beep" sound! I also read about all your cooking project, that sounds great! I had to make caramel for the first time for a cake recently and found it very exciting, too!!

Thanks for the nice compliment. I am not sure that hospitality is that common in Germany. But perhaps we really spend more time with friends at home? I also once heard that it is common in the US that people say "You should come and visit me", but this isn't meant as an invitiation. When Germans say that, it is a real invitation. But then we might not say it so easily! But if you want to experience hospitality, Eastern Europe can't be beat!

Glad you got the tickets! I know I want to go and the kids and DS girlfriend, we can buy advanced tickets for this weekend to. It's trying to coordinate a time where everyone can go! I really have been looking forward to this movie. The last two books were my favorite in the series.

Well I don't know about everyone else in the US but when I say come and visit I mean come and visit! I love to host things, it's just that everyone I ask is always to busy with there lives to.

It's funny you mentioned Eastern Europe and hopitality. DH has a friend at work that went to Poland on vacation years ago by himself. He was eating at an outdoor cafe and when a group of people sat down next to him they started talking ect well they ended up showed him around whatever city he was in and invited him to their family farm for dinner. He now goes and visits every year. He's now like family to them. The funny thing is they won't come here to visit they have no intrest visiting the US.

On a side note people in the US I think have a hard time with strangers sitting next to them. It was a little weird for us at first when in Germany someone would just sit next to us. We quickly go used to that though.

Really enjoyed this update when I read it, but hadn't had the time to do a suitable commentary, so I better get that in before I have TWO updates to comment on!!!

We were graciously received with hugs and hellos, like we had known them for years. Their hospitality was overflowing already.

Definitely NOT trying to belittle your point, but I can honestly imagine there are quite a few of us on here who would receive such a warm welcome if any of our DISfamily homes were being visited by the others...

Then it was time to give the packages I had made for “the girls”. They vowed they would wear their sheep wool slippers to keep warm this winter, and seemed happy to get chocolate. (What girl wouldn’t?)

Those look like they would keep the ole tootsies quite warm on a cold winter night!!!

I poked my head in and spied THIS:

I nearly passed out with anticipatory giddiness! I’m glad OSHA wasn’t there because they may have been fined for a slippery floor due to excessive salivation on the part of their guests.

If I had been there with you, I suspect the NWS would have had to issue a flood warning!!!

Remember that “favorite shot”? I think this one has to be it. It is one of those rare shots that says it all. It completely captures the evening in one moment. The one that says we enjoyed each other’s company and all that was happening so far that evening. It could have been any one of us with that smile (except Anara who was still trying to figure out if all we were having was soup. LOL!).

I would have loved to be at that gathering, even if relegated to sitting quietly in the corner and just drinking in the atmosphere. I can almost feel the warmth through your description.....

With appetites appetized, it was time for the heavier stuff- the roll up your sleeves, hope you’re starving, meat-fest! I know you want pictures, and I’m happy to oblige:

How about bread- I know some of you have a love affair with bread that can rival any silver screen drama. So this one’s for you:

Okay, I know some of you probably scoffed at the possibility of me just sitting quietly in that corner I mentioned, but with a plate of this in front of me, I would have been too busy to talk anyway.....

and acorn fed ham. HUH?! Yeah, apparently, pigs that are fed acorns end up with frankly the best danged ham I’ve EVER had. Magdalene’s dad brought some out of his super secret stash (it’s even more super secret than my super secret Disney bank account- shhhh!) to let us try. The lesson here- never feed your pigs ANYTHING else (especially roast beef!),

(I’d love to post the REAL Magdalene’s mom and dad, but need to ask her first; if she says it’s ok, I’ll go back and change this, because frankly, they are lovely people and this makes them look hideous!)

As correct as possible without having a German keyboard - it's Dürer. But you could always substitute ue for ü, so Duerer would have been fine as well.
