we used to call each other "fart knockers" in school growing up,

thanks for bringing that memory back, i forgot all about it.

great job on finishing second in your bracket.

i bet there was at least 3 other people in your age catagory that u beat.;):thumbsup2

Now that she lived through it .... she can laugh about it.

Sending you a Pm about the signs.

Exactly! Time heals most anything. Except bad meals at Teppan Edo.

OK, got it.

Congrats on your amazing finish! There is no way I could have run that race and survived. You have a lot to be proud of and so does Mike.

I was really ripping through that race, let me tell ya. :lmao: Sure you could have!! If I can "run" a 5K- ANYONE can! I am living proof it CAN be done.

2 letters without any clues??? :scared1::scared1:

I said it before, but once again: congratulations on finishing your race!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

It sounds like a very nice event because of it being so small. :goodvibes And I know what you mean about needing a walker the days after the race! After my 10k my legs took several days until they started to feel normal again... That's actually one reason why I wonder wether I really want to run a 1/2 marathon at WDW - it would really be a bit disadvantageous to park touring the days after the race...

And you look really great with your medal!! :thumbsup2

Nope, no clues this time- just super sonic, sleek easy ones for the ANYONE can play this game players.

Thanks, you are my rockstar- and I hope to one day do a 10K like you!!

Small is good - not as many people to keep up with. or be discouraged about never passing! :rotfl2:

As for park touring after- I"m thinking it'd be a lay by the pool and hobble to the beach chair kind of trip. :confused3

Holy fart knocking cow! Great job on the race! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Glennbo, I know you've heard the story, so this installment might not have been quite as riveting as ones to come....

 I've heard Liesa referred to as a lot of things (mostly by her), but even I wouldn't tread in THAT water!!! It's one thing to be agreeable, but sheesh...... :lmao:

Great job on the race! Not surprised Mike did so well. He spent so much time leading up to the race making frequent runs to front yards and such!!! :rolleyes1

Okay, now off to research those letters! Well, at least that "S" since you apparently had sympathy on us and finally gave us a GIMME with the other one..... :)

Thanks, Marv!!! I know you THINK you run as slow as grandma, but I still would wager you are faster than yours truly.

Mike said if he'd done the "pump and run" event, he'd have smoked everyone who competed!!! He is VERY strong in benchpress, so I don't doubt it! Ah well, live and learn! Yes, he had had some serious pre-event training in the 100 yd. barf and dash.

A gimme has to show up once in a while. ;)

CONGRATS on the run. Wow, what a great accomplishment. That's kinda crazy the slightly heavier woman was able to keep ahead of you. Maybe she had more muscle tone. At any rate, you did amazing!

Thanks!! I actually sat and talked to her for quite a while after the race and listened to her story...

She told me she was severely overweight for a long time, but came to "her bottom" when she started getting diabetes. She worked as a personal assistant to a business tycoon, and when he died she was out of work. So she started running when she got a temp job at the hospital. She did the same program I did (the C25K) but stuck with it as a goal to run the whole stinking race. I decided earlier that I was going to walk some of it, so stopped at the 20 minutes running with walk breaks. Anyway, she (literally) prayed through the whole race. She told me over the course of her 1 year training, she lost over 100 pounds and was no longer a "diabetic"!!!! I was absolutely elated for her; what an accomplishment! She was also the winner of the random drawing for the IPad, which I am insanely jealous about, but know she was far more deserving than I. Kudos to her!!!

*shudder*

You are stronger than me. This would feel like getting up extra-early for an IRS audit.

Or a TSA pat down.

They probably like brussels sprouts, too.

In between their slices of pizza with radicchio.

Good job hitting your goal! :woohoo: I can imagine the trail of fire you left behind, and it's beautiful. :thumbsup2

Think Chariots of Fire; Liddell would have been proud!

Chick Fil-A > Taco Bell. Sorry, I had to say it. :rotfl2:

Not even close, Loser. Chick Fil-A= nada frijoles.

:woohoo::woohoo: That's AWESOME! Great job both of you!

Thanks!!!

And thanks also for giving me a new creative substitute for profanity!

Thank GB. Most creative expletives writer ever.

Exactly. :thumbsup2

By the way, I meant to comment on the Kentucky humidity. I agree with you, I've never experienced humidity quite like Kentucky's. Back before kids, Judy and I took a couple of short-term mission trips to the coal-mining areas and we learned that we each had to pack 2 towels. It took 2 days for them to dry, so we'd alternate them every other day. On our first trip, when we only packed 1 each, we'd constantly have a damp towel.

It was insane. I've never felt anything like it. And this being only the 2nd day in civilization- to experience it like that was just too much!!!

Damp towels are hard to deal with- unless you're trying to make possum soup.

Really!!?? Maybe that's where he got it from!! :confused3

I"m sure there were, Dan, I'm sure there were!

Thank you so much for sharing the other runner's story. That is so inspiring. She did deserve the Ipad.:thumbsup2

Think Chariots of Fire; Liddell would have been proud!

As long as you weren't running on a Sunday. But your theme music is epic.

On a side note, Liddell is one of the coolest people ever. What an amazing story he is.

Not even close, Loser. Chick Fil-A= nada frijoles.

Now we're resorting to name-calling? Ok, fart knocker:

Waffle Fries >> frijoles. So there.

What a heartfelt story! Good for her! Amazing how she came out of being diabetic. She was so deserving of that iPad... as much as it would've been cool if you had won it :goodvibes

I am really glad I met her! She was VERY inspiring, and hope she shares her story with others along her path.

Twas a Saturday. And thankfully, NOT in a prison camp. Speaking of which, I read a book a long time ago about the prison camp he was in in China. It wasn't directly about him per se, but did mention him quite a bit. I've never been able to find the title of it again, but would LOVE to read it again if possible. Amazing story of survival!!! With a heartbreaking ending for him.

Now we're resorting to name-calling? Ok, fart knocker:

OK, I do agree- waffle fries rock. So here's what I"m thinking...

A bean burrito with loads of onions and waffle fries IN IT. And then smothered with fake cheese sauce. :thumbsup2

I know!! She must have worked so hard, and I think it was probably not just coincidence, but rather Providential that she "randomly" won it. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 GREAT job on the race :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
When I did my first 5K I had about the same time and I didn't get a medal :sad1: I'm glad you did, all the more reason for you to celebrate at WDW

Great job on the race Liessa !! As usual I have no clue what either letter is !!!I'll let Marv do my research:rotfl2:

We are having our Christmas Tea today at work and everyone including staff are excited !!!:banana:Gotta make Trifle and sausage rolls for them !!:cloud9:

All caught up which was quite the feat as I was on page 50.:scared1: Great job on the marathon.

Thanks, Jessica!! My time was mediocre at best, but my goal was never to be fast, just to finish. It will be the same if I ever increase my distance. And the only reason I got a medal was because it was such puny event. Running here in Oregon is a HUGE big deal- EVERYONE runs. So I doubt I'll ever find that small of a race here. And let's be real.... I like the reward of a really stupid piece of plastic with a fancy ribbon on it. ANd that's why I really, really, really like the Disney races---- EVERYONE gets one, if they finish. While not everyone is fastest, EVERYONE worked their butt off (in some cases literally) to get to where they could feel good enough to enter. Maybe that shows the spirit of entitlement, but for some of us, that's reward enough to keep up running. Lame or not.

Great job on the race Liessa !! As usual I have no clue what either letter is !!!I'll let Marv do my research:rotfl2:

Hi Rosie!! Ummm... actually at least one of those letters is the easiest one you'll ever get in this game. The clue is right under your nose. I think you can get it!!

mmmmmm!! Trifle!!!! My mom made that many times for holidays, with raspberry jam (not jello) and REAL whipped cream! So tasty with Bird's custard! :cloud9:

I just finished my first batch of holiday cookies- Springerle!!! Anise cookies made with a special rolling pin to put nifty designs on them. Next up.... lebkuchen!!!

All caught up which was quite the feat as I was on page 50.:scared1: Great job on the marathon.

I just saw that ticker of yours!!!! Trip is coming up fast for you!:banana::banana:

I am amazed you read 70 pages!! But it's totally ok if you used those links. :goodvibes

I'm still here I swear, it's been a crazy time since right before Thanksgiving, and every time I get on the boards I literally start falling asleep. I miss all of my DIS family and I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hate that I missed wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving :headache:. I promise I'll get my act together, I think the only productive thing I've done on here before falling asleep (up until now) is uploading a sweet gesture by Poolrat Pat (look at my new siggie).

Miss you guys tons!! :goodvibes

We miss you too Camille!! But , like you, I've not been able to be on very much either. I have been in Salem at my DIL's house since Thursday morning, and he has limited internet that I'm afraid of going over his MB limits. It would be very expensive for him/ us if I did that.

Anyway, there's so much to do for getting ready for the Christmas Eve/Day/Week masses. I am expecting upwards of 30 combined- some staying for 4-7 days.

Soooooo..... all that to say, I apologize to all whose TR's I am following!! Seems I have time to keep up here, then quickly get off. Next I should have a little more time while I am back at my other house, but then we'll be back down here again. Tammie, I feel especially badly that I've dropped the ball on yours!! I need to get over there soon and read about your yummy cruise!!!

Meantime, Everyone!!! Have a great weekend! I'll try to get some pictures up soon of the great looking German treats I've been baking this week!!!

Hi Magdalene!! I have been (literally) thinking about you all day!! I just got out all the stuff I need for making lebkuchen! and am ready to start! I am beyond excited- I also just finished the Springerle. Does your family eat those??

Don't worry about having enough time! I think everyone is pretty busy right now and does not have much time to read the DIS. So it is actually ok if things aren't moving too fast! :thumbsup2

Do you know that one of the forum settings is specifically designed to have less data volume, it is called DIScreet - Mobile. It is mainly done for those (like me) who sometimes go online from their mobile and don't have an unlimited data plan. It does not work on every forum, but on the TR forum it does. You can't see signatures and such. But possibly that might make you a bit less nervous?

:banana: I know what these are!! I hope they turned out good! popcorn::

Why are you making Springerle?? Am I so confused that I don't remember giving you a recipe for them????

Yes, we eat them, but some people put them on their tree (but possibly eat them from the tree, we put a lot of candy on the tree which then is eaten during the days of Christmas). These are actually the cookies my sister and I bake every year with our aunt and our cousins (who are also our godchildren). I know that Katharina posted something about them on our PTR, I will find that!

Good luck with the Lebkuchen!! :goodvibes At first I was wondering why you start baking them at 11pm, but then I realized that it is only 2pm at your place!! :lmao:

I figure everyone is busy decorating and baking and whatnot, and am noticing most everyone's threads are going slower- PHew!!

But, I really don't know how we're going to solve the internet problem here at the house before we move in. :confused3 I mean a long term fix sort of thing. Right now, it runs off a cell phone connection and slow, and the thought of not having unlimited freaks me out a bit. Meantime, I need to know how to do what you are suggesting to minimize the bytes I am using on his plan. Thanks for the tip- and now PM me on what to do. Although I may not be able to fix it until later tonight. Right now I am watching the Ducks vs. Beavers game (Both the Oregon schools are playing the "Civil War" game) and I just wouldn't be a true Oregonian if I missed it.

Anyway, back to the game and baking :)

No, Springerle didn't come from you; my in-laws have made them for as long as I've been in the family, and possibly a LOT longer than that, as they emigrated from Germany only 3 generations ago. They have the antique rolling pin that I just just today to make the shapes on the cookies. They are definitely the household favorite around here with tea every evening during December.

Wow, how interesting! We don't use a roling pin, but flat forms, which are pretty antique as well. Katharina posted about it last year here. I think I have some pictures of the baked ones as well, do you want to see them? I would love to see your rolling pin and the results! I have never met anyone else who bakes them here in Germany (besides my father's sister and here daughters).
