The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Friends:

I was taking the morning to read all of the threads I'm on, written by people I consider friends of God's choosing. I love them dearly, and some I know better than others.

I would love to see us all come together as a DISFamily for Dayna (@dglilbit ) and support her as they just got some hard news about their cutie patootie little girl, Evie. At the very least, could you stop by and just tell her you'll send up a little prayer for them as they face the next days and weeks at the children's hospital? When one of us is hurting, we all do.

Also, most of us on this thread know of Andy's (@afwdwfan ) situation with his Little One as well. Let's support them too, as they face the unknown in the next weeks and months. Life is not always easy, but carrying the burden with others can make it a little better.

It could really turn into a divisive situation. Adding misery to your day and subtracting from your safety.

Times infinity.

(hint: you do realize that we're friends on FB and you could pinpoint me in about 40 nanosecond, right?)

Where's the fun in that?
(And yes, I already did that anyway.)

But If FB isn't quick enough here:

45.020190, -123.077254

Cute house. I like it. Man you've got a lot of greenery!

Which is approximately 50% of your shifts.

Usually about 20%. We do two evenings, two days and a night in a cycle.

And cleaning dog crap up at 10:00AM after you've been up all night... that's gotta suck.

Yes. That is all.

I have 2 of a lot of things.

Like maracas.

Rhymes with... with.... darn. Can't think of the word.
Oh, well TaTa for now.

Finally catching up! Now where's the pie? I was told there would be pie.

Dreams coming true... No big deal or anything....

This put a smile on my face.

So the Code person.... He actually DID make it! From us he was sent down to ICU, where he in fact coded again. He was one of those that they saw him being eligible for organ transplant very soon so had actually made calls to them and started some initial screenings. But miraculously, he rallied and I got to care for him last night!! Everyone I've talked to said they've never seen anything like this before! To have coded twice and be a hair's width away from medical death come back with such a recovery. Truly amazing for me to have gotten to see the process.

This also put a smile on my face.

Pie > kids (unless they share their pie.)

::yes:: Truth.

Now that my Preceptorship is coming close to ending, and I'll have a bit more open time, I do want to contact her and see what can be cooked up. I"m getting a horrible case of wanderlust and need to satiate my traveling bug. Yes, they still struggle. A lot. I came across my little one's diary and it was heartbreaking. She even mentioned having a few very concerning thoughts of suicide. We've had to really dig down deep and counsel her; the scars of coming back may never fully heal. (She's doing better now, and we're making some changes for the coming school year for her.) I am seriously considering taking her with me so she can see the value of helping others and that there is more adventure out there; that life isn't all about wallowing in our sorrow of trying to fit in here.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Jr. high was awful for me, too, and I never left home.

I totally get the wanderlust, too!

The weather couldn't have been more amazingly beautiful- a very rare occurrence here in Oregon.

Gorgeous photos! Glad the weather cooperated, too, and that you could have that getaway.

Well, I am the daughter of an engineer and I have done this myself with cakes when I wanted to use a smaller springform... That's what I learned to do at home though, not necessarily at school...

It reminds me of a joke that a friend of my father once told my father and which he loved telling himself ever since: It is an experiment where you put a mathematician, a phycisist and an engineer into a room each and don't give them anything to eat for three days. Then each of them gets a can of beans, but no can opener. Half an hour later you look into each room. The mathematician sits in front of the still closed can and is smiling and tells you that he has solved the problem. The phycisist just started eating the beans. He calculated at which angle he had to throw the can against the wall for it to break open. Finally the engineer has just finished eating beans. He just threw the can against the wall until it broke open.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::thumbsup2

A group of mathematicians and a group of engineers were lined up at the goal line of a football field. 100 yards away, on the opposite goal line, a group of gorgeous scantily-clad women were waiting. The mathematicians and engineers were told that every time the whistle blew, they would be allowed to traverse half the distance to the opposite goal line. The whistle blew, and all of the engineers raced out to the 50-yard line. The mathematicians stayed put. The whistle blew again, and the engineers ran another 25 yards. The mathematicians stayed put. Once more the whistle blew, and the engineers ran another 12.5 yards. The mathematicians stayed where they were. Finally, the man running the test walked over to the mathematicians and asked why they hadn't moved. They replied, "Because it's a trick. It's mathematically impossible to reach the other side, so why bother?" The man then walked over to the engineers and said, "Hey, these guys say you'll never actually reach the other goal line, so it's not worth the effort." The engineers replied, "We'll get close enough for all practical purposes."

And I am proud that I even figured out why the mathematicians did not move!! And it really shows how often close enough is all that matters! :thumbsup2 Just not when you are taking a math exam...

Apparently it's virtual pie.

And yet, I still virtually want pie because I'm still virtually hungry.

Stupid iPod won't let me quote it, but  about the 100 yard dash.

Cute house. I like it. Man you've got a lot of greenery!

It was built by my hubby's grandparents in 1949 as a summer cabin on the river. Over the years it was added onto and my hubby's parents moved in in 1971. Now we are buying it and slowly destroying it. It's built on a historical site (Lincoln was actually bigger than Salem at one point being a wheat depot for the ferry) and has some cool history to it. We suck at keeping the forest tamed as neither of us really likes yard work. Anyway, yeah, it's a struggle to keep the trees from overtaking everything. Luckily, DH has a chainsaw and isn't afraid to use it. We have more cut wood than a beaver on speed.

Usually about 20%. We do two evenings, two days and a night in a cycle.

That's quite possibly the whackiest schedule I've ever seen. No wonder you keep weird hours.

Rhymes with... with.... darn. Can't think of the word.
Oh, well TaTa for now.

Thanks! I was doing stuff from my phone, and stuff like that is too hard.

Stunning photos Liesa! Looks like you had a fantastic and much needed beach outing!

Finally catching up! Now where's the pie? I was told there would be pie.

You of all people should know that pie doesn't last long around here.

This put a smile on my face.

Jr. High is a hard place. Some things never change.

Don't you have a Sherri's??

G is for Good Times at Grand Gatherings

So, as promised I thought I'd fill everyone in on what we've cooked up for Wednesday, the 19th. It seemed like there are going to be several more arrivals near or on that day. Right?? If you are not one of these people, it's far from too late to plan on being there... promise. ;)

It's our family's last night, and I can't think of a better place to be that EPCOT, my favorite park and the Land of Good Eats. I should be clear, Marv and Pat (you DID talk this, right @GoofyFan1515 and @Poolrat ?) were the instigators of this, IMHO pretty darn good, idea. Go ahead and say you don't like EPCOT. I dare you...

Anyone? Anyone...?

I didn't think so.

So, let's try this on for size:

Whoever wants to join up for dinner, be it La Cantina de San Angel, The Ditch for heavy snacks and margs til we have our fill and make an appropriate amount of mayhem, or just cruise the F&W booths, we will be ready for your company. (Actual place TBD... feel free to give your opinion)

Regardless of where dinner is (around 6:30ish), we cordially invite you get your social on under the Norway Pavilion near the Kringla around 8:00. It has plenty of seating and is a pretty good spot for viewing Illuminations. And it has Rice Cream. Do. Not. Forget. the. Rice. Cream. You can take your School Bread and.... eat it. Rice Cream is worthy of an Ode. A Sonnet. It's a dreamy dessert worthy of the entire price of a 1 day ticket to EPCOT all by itself.

Eh hemmm... where was I?

This plan should give us plenty of time to get some photos, yack it up, (we'll keep you from too much merriment at The Ditch so you don't perform the secondary meaning of that), make some memories, and all that fun stuff. I can hand off some goodies I've been crafting for the Cool Kids on the block, and we can get all misty-eyed together over pyrotechnics and explosions. (I confess, that show isn't my favorite... it's disjointed and kinda weird, but it does make pretty good use of potassium nitrate, sulfur and magnesium.)

Whatcha guys (and gals) think?? @mom3sonstt , @DISNEYMOON10121991, Alison, Rosie, Others??? Spread the word!! Know of others that'll be there on the 19th?

Should be some pretty fun shindigging goin' on.

I like the idea of a place that has adult beverages, a place to sit and people who bring them to you.

I would probably be happier with a Margarita from the stand in Mexico next door. And School Bread has coconut. Blech!

Having seen the show just the other night, I'm pretty good with not necessarily seeing the show again for a while. I can always duck out and head back to the room being that I will be staying at the Beach Club and all.

I'm all up for meeting up for some adult beverages!!!! Especially at Epcot since I'm staying at the BCV.

Who doesn't love a place to sit and people watch. Trust me, a bar is a pretty good place to that even without one sip.

That's why we chose that place... close to a lot of stuff that should make everyone happy. A little time in the Ditch, a little time by the Kringla, a place to plop down our tired, but happy, bottoms and visit a while. Bring your margs- come one and all.

Having seen the show just the other night, I'm pretty good with not necessarily seeing the show again for a while. I can always duck out and head back to the room being that I will be staying at the Beach Club and all.

To be honest, we may or may not stay out late. Our flights are the next day, and it'll be a long one of travel and getting up early to pack and have breakfast at Boma. You'll love being close by in case the party breaks up earlier than we'd thought. Ooorrrr, we may just have to join you over in the Ale and Compass.

Wooohoooo!!!

This is the covered seating area behind Kringla and the church. Plenty of seating.....yes. Good spot for viewing people.....yes. Good spot for viewing IllumiNations.....not so much although Norway is a great place to watch if desired, and the fence a few steps away along the water provides that choice.

I like the idea of a place that has adult beverages, a place to sit and people who bring them to you.
Plenty of seating there, and Adult beverages are close by (La Cava, Marg stand, etc), but you will need to bring your own with you, however, if tips are really good...... I might be willing to be a runner. :rolleyes1 ;)

Don't worry, when we did this with a large group before IllumiNations was going on behind us and hardly anyone turned around to pay attention.... :goodvibes

Pat and I will be strolling (crawling?) out to BCV afterwards also. We usually give the crowds a few minutes to clear out some so we don't get caught "swimming upstream." One of the many perks of being able to leave through the IG! :thumbsup2

You do realize that (barring EEMH) IllumiNations is at 9:00, and afterwards the park is closed? 8:00 isn't going to provide a whole lot of party or yak it up time (although later in the evening could.... :scratchin), nor the opportunity to make a late night of it......

BTW, Rosie and her group should already be safely back home by then. I think they fly out on Tuesday.

Ok, aside from drain your wallet.

Those are some expensive margaritas.

::yes:: Pretty accurate summary. Definitely my least favorite of all the night time shows.

Lol. If I made a plan *today* to be in WDW in October, that would be about 4 (ETA - ok, maybe 3) more months of planning time than either of our other trips! :lmao:

Sounds like you guys are going to have a blast!

No problem! Those that wanna watch it can, those that don't can stay put or move to (or stay in) the Ditch while it's empty during the show. Also, I'm not altogether convinced that La Cava closes on the dot. They may stay open a tad later for the folks who are still spending a gazillion bux a pop on margs.

(You forgot that Kringla has Rice Cream.)

Schmoozing at its absolute best.

BTW, I was doing a little "research" on the options for adult bevvies around the world and found the most comprehensive write up

HERE

I am really thinking that trying the Aquavit sounds fun. Liquor aged by rolling around in oak barrels 5 months at sea?!?! Hmmm....

Don't worry, when we did this with a large group before IllumiNations was going on behind us and hardly anyone turned around to pay attention.... :goodvibes

Someday.... someday I will also have the privilege of using the exclusive entrance. Ladies trip....?????

You're welcome. :lmao:

Rice cream... or margaritas? Wait, why did we move the party out of the ditch???? :confused3

I figured, it's quite possible that a group dinner could happen there at 6:30. The appies are certainly large enough to stave one's hunger, and if not, when we move over to the Norway area, there are plenty of eats very nearby that can be brought to the tables. I think I wasn't clear in my post... the 6:30 dinner is for everyone. We just need to agree on a plan.

Seriously, what did the ditch ever do to you????

Ok, aside from drain your wallet.

Those are some expensive margaritas.

They've only ever treated me to THE BEST marg I have EVER had. I had a classic and I was enamored with the way he made it at my table all from fresh ingredients. I got top shelf liquor because life is too short to waste on booze that tastes like crap. And I only had one because of those prices. I think it was easy $18. ???

::yes:: Pretty accurate summary. Definitely my least favorite of all the night time shows.

I think I"m gonna like RoL when it rolls out; if it's anything like WoC at DLR, and I understand it will be, I know it'll probably become my fave after MSEP.

Lol. If I made a plan *today* to be in WDW in October, that would be about 4 (ETA - ok, maybe 3) more months of planning time than either of our other trips! :lmao:

So, you're saying that you could still make it??!! :goodvibes

Ok, I tried school bread at the Norway pavilion once and was not impressed. But then I had this:

DSC07099.jpg

school bread in the real Norway (to be precise in Stavanger at a local organic bakery). And I was in love!!!

Actually all the pastry we tried in the real Norway was so amazing! Mainly because of their very heavy use of cardamom.

I am really thinking that trying the Aquavit sounds fun. Liquor aged by rolling around in oak barrels 5 months at sea?!?! Hmmm....

No! Don't do it!! Aquavit is really vile stuff! It is mainly vodka that tastes of caraway seeds. Unless you enjoy drinking shots of caraway flavored vodka, stay away from it!!

I know it very well as it is incredibly popular in Denmark and it is served there with "fancy" lunches (most family events include special lunches, birthday, Easter, Christmas), aquavit is always served with the fish course. I had so many occasions when I had to drink a glass of it. And I even retried it recently, it is still as horrible as I remember!

The Linie Aquavit they most likely sell there is a little better than the red Aalborg they drink in Denmark, but still...
