Day 5 - Wednesday, February 7, 2001

Today was beautiful, sunny and high 70’s. We went to Disney-MGM Studios today.
Today was early entry, and we had been avoiding early entry parks this week, but I
wanted to hit this park before the cheerleader competition began, since I didn’t know
how that would affect crowds or access to rides. We started with Tower of Terror, which
I like much better with the new drop sequence than I did when it was just one short drop
and one long drop. I rode Rock ‘n Roller Coaster by myself, since no one else wanted to
go on it with me. Awesome ride - just way too short! Tara wanted another shot at ToT,
so I rode with her again, and then we moved on to the Indiana Jones show. My husband
really liked this show, although I was not as impressed with it as I had thought I would
be. Our next show was the Sounds Dangerous show with Drew Carey. I really thought
this was cool, but it was crowded and we didn’t get to sit together. That didn’t
particularly matter, but the crowds were definitely bigger here today then we had seen
them earlier in the week.

We then went on to ride Star Tours and take in the Muppets show. We enjoyed both of
these attractions, particularly the Muppets (who never seem to lose their appeal no matter
how many times you’ve seen them).

By now, we were getting hungry and my husband was in the mood for meatloaf (his
favorite food), so we tried for a seating at 50’s Prime Time Cafe. I wasn’t sure we would
get in, since we didn’t have a PS, but we only waited about 10 minutes and then we had a
terrific lunch there! He had his meatloaf, Tara had a pasta dish, and I had chicken pot pie
which was outstanding - one of the best dishes I ever had! Since Dad had a couple of
drinks, this bill was about $50.00, but he said it was worth it - we thoroughly enjoyed
ourselves here. Our waitress was not as into the 50’s stuff as some of the others, but she
was very nice and efficient. Again, she called Tara and I by our names because of our
badges - I really like these things!

We tried to make the next Doug Live show, but we just missed it. Tara was coming
down with a cold, and I had gone to the gift shop that morning for medicine for her. By
this point in the day, she was really flagging. We decided to go back and rest so we
would be ready for our Fantasmic dinner package that night.

We came back at 6:00 pm for our Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic dinner package meal.
This was the only meal we had during our trip that was absolutely awful! I tried really
hard, but could not find one redeeming feature in it. The food tasted bland, at best, and
really nasty, at worst. It was also cold and there was very little that appealed to any of us.
I decided that I would fill up on dessert - you can’t mess up dessert, right? Wrong! I
took one bite of a brownie and could barely get it down, it was that bad. The service was
very slow (we did not get our drinks until we were almost finished with what little food
we were able to choke down), and I know for a fact that we will never eat here again.
The bill was about $55.00, and the only good thing that came out of this one was not
having to wait in line for Fantasmic.

Once we got up the hill to the Fantasmic theater, we picked out seats in the middle of a
row so that we would be in front of a water screen and could get a good view. There was
some space between us and the people on the end of the row, but the row behind us was
empty and it would not have been hard for someone to come in behind us and step down
to sit beside us. There were many spaces in between people in the rows in front of us,
but the CM chose to ask only us to slide down so more people could fit on the other end
of our row. I chose to move to another row that had more people on it so I could sit in
the center where I wanted to be. He gave me a rather nasty look, but didn’t say anything.
It struck me as funny that he didn’t ask anyone else to move down on the other rows that
had spaces. Oh, well, this was the only time I felt less than thrilled with the attitude of a
CM on this trip and I still got to sit in the area that I wanted to be in, so no harm done.
We watched the space shuttle take off and it was a really pretty sight.

When the pre-show started, I was expecting a comedy routine or something similar.
They had a man and woman come out and dance to recorded music, ask trivia questions
and generally make everyone restless until the real show started. This I could have done
without, but again, no harm done. The Fantasmic show made up for every minor
irritation - it was, in my opinion, the best show in the parks! We ran out of film before it
was over, but I don’t think pictures would do it justice, anyway. Very, very impressive
spectacle.

We waited until the bulk of the crowd had dispersed before we started out of the park.
The terrible food at H&V had made me physically ill, so I had to stop at the ladies room
before we could even get to the bus. Larry and Tara were hungry, since we essentially
didn’t get any dinner, so we stopped at the food court at Dixie. I was still feeling sick, so
I got some jello and yogurt to take back to the room. I was okay by the next morning,
and it was all worth it for the wonderful Fantasmic show.

On to day 6!

I'm sorry you had such a bad supper. Hopefully tomorrow will be a much better day.

Other than your dinner another fun day at Disney. Thanks for posting!

Fantasmic is, I agree, the best! Sorry your dinner wasn't. Sounds like you didn't let it get you down. ;)
