is anyone watching this programme ?

I am struggling to understand why anyone would want to create a fake persona for themselves like she did, to let people put their trust in you and then lie to them is just a despicable act

ive yet to see if she gained anything other than notoriaty but she must be very sad if that was her only motivation !

you can imagine someone.. low self esteem... people look through her
suddenly with this story she becomes interesting - and people want to talk to her...
not an excuse but i can see exactly why she would want to do it given her circumstances.

I expect she even believed it in her own way..

It wasnt, I dont think about anyone apart from her... she needed to recognition and found a way to recieve it.....

I didn't watch it last night (was watching the 9/11 hotel from the night before which was incredibly sad and made me cry several times).

Anyway, I'm not sure I'm actually going to be able to bring myself to watch this. I can't abide liars in any form and the fact that she could lie about something so horrific is just beyond me.

I could go on and on but I'll reserve judgement until after I've seen it (if I watch it).

To do something like this on such a large scale just for attention leads me to believe she must have some form of mental illness. Even if she did have a bit of a bad life doesnt justify doing what she did.

Dh and I watched in utter disbelief.
Like one of the contributers said at the end, she did lots of good work for their "cause" but didnt need to lie to do it. Her craving for attention obviously took over her whole personality to the point whereby the situation completely spiraled out of control. Poor woman.
I found myself feeling so sorry for her at the end when more about her background was explained, especially the final comment (which I won't give away).
Very sad for everybody involved.

seemed to me that the woman is suffering from a bizarre form of munchausens by proxy, becoming self obsessed with the fame and adulation that was bestowed on her by the ppeople she was 'helping'.
Unfortunately disasters seem to always bring out a few nutters

Interesting that a lot of this woman's dealings with people was via internet forum/email - I wonder if she felt she was more likely to get away with lying because she wasn't doing it to their faces (although i realise she did lie to (people's faces as well). I think sometimes people think they can get away with pretending to be something they're not when they don't know people 'in real life' as such

That was my point as well i suppose, that we take people at face value without knowing who they really are

I watched this programme this morning.

Shocking and very sad for all involved. I felt particularly sad for the female postal work who actually lost her fiance. It was clear that she felt some sort of connection with Tania because they both appeared to be in the same situation. She had blamed herself because she had reached out to Tania who then fobbed her off. It was unforgiveable that the woman's suffering was made worse.

As one survivor pointed out, Tania did so much for the cause. She could have achieved this without lying about her circumstances. It made the genuine survivors as well as the people who's lives were lost seem almost incidental.
