I was maybe 10ish when her names was in the news. I recall something about a scandal involving a televised church and her cryind and her mascara running. This is ALL I really know. Sad ain't it

Back in the day, Tammy was a huge gay icon! She had her own show "Coffee with Tammy" or something like that. She would have guests on, and they would talk Jesus and coffee cake, and inevitably she would cry, mascara running all over the place!

One thing I can say about Jim and Tammy, they never EVER said anything negative about the GLBT community. They may have scammed a lot of cash out of some folks, but they were always nice to our community!

One thing that I remember most about PTL and Tammy Faye, was back in the early 80's she had an openly gay man who had AIDS on her program. I remember watching that episode with my family and never forgot it. Her and her husband might have done some bad things in the past and for a while, she was flipflopping on her opinion of gay people, but I fell in love with her that day.

Here's an excerpt from a great article about her:

"Tammy Faye’s gay-friendly roots go back to 1985 when she became the first televangelist to have a gay man with AIDS on her religious PTL show “Tammy’s House Party.” Rev. Steve Pieters, who has lived with AIDS for more than 20 years and is now a psychotherapist in Los Angeles, remembers his guest appearance and Tammy Faye fondly.

“She was incredibly sweet and affirming,” Pieters said. “She asked some fairly silly questions, like, ‘Are you sure you’ve given girls a fair chance?’ but you have to understand for her audience, those kinds of questions gave me a chance to explain what it was like to be a gay man with AIDS.”

Pieters said Tammy Faye’s decision to have him on the show was groundbreaking especially considering the time."
