I just got great news and have friday through monday off and thought i'd suprise the wife and kids and go to WDW this weekend......i called Memeber services to book a room with our points at the beach club and was told because we have a feb use yr we cant use our points........so we had to pay cash to stay.....i am really mad at them......so basically with last minute travel i cant use my points.......anyone else get this.....i guess in needed to read the fine print when we bought in 1992???? or reupped with the BCV in 2000.........

You cannot use points to make a reservation and travel to a non-DVC option within 60 days of your Use Year. You can still make a reservation at a DVC resort right up until the end of the Use Year.

The reason behind the policy is that DVC must be able to rent those points to "pay" for the non-DVC option and any unreserved rooms from DVC inventory already are turned over to CRO for cash reservations at 60 days prior (this is the "breakage period").

Your options are to use your points at any DVC resort (based on availability) ... or ... you can use them for the World Passport Collection. (I'm not sure I understand the logic behind that allowance, but know that it is an option during the last 60 days!)

Good luck!

Bongo, did you try for a DVC resort? As Doc mentioned, you only had a problem because it is within the last 60 days of your Use Year. If you had a December Use Year, you could have booked a last minute stay on points at a WDW resort. You also could have booked a stay for this weekend at the Beach Club but you would have had to make the reservation by November 30.

Do you still have February 2003 points you are trying to use? If so, I'd really try to book into a DVC so they aren't wasted.

The Beach Club is not in the Disney Collection. What resort were you trying for?

we own at the BCV and BW......and were told two hours ago that we could not use our points at all period because we are within 60 days of our use yr.......we ask to stay at DVC resorts first then just any disney property......and were told sorry......so we went to priceline.com and are staying in the hilton at downtown disney with airfare for 931 bucks for 3 of us......but i am mad i could not use my points to stay this weekend......it is a rule i never heard of before.....

Maybe the CM just didn't make himself/herself clear. The ONLY reason you would not have been able to use your points at the BWV or BCV is that there wasn't any availability left for the days you wanted. It is very possible that the DVC resorts are completely sold out for this coming weekend.

As already stated, the 60 day rule applies only to the non-DVC options (such as the YC, the Poly, the CR, the POR, the DCL, etc).

Sorry this happened to you - Hope you enjoy the Hilton. We've stayed at the DD Wyndham (across the street form the Hilton) and really enjoyed the ability to walk to the MarketPlace and Pleasure Island.

well we own at 4 different resorts and i wish i would have made it more clear to the rep......maybe i just did not make myself clear.......or maybe there was no availablity???? hard to believe nothing available at WL,BCV OKW or BW we we own???????

60 days ahead of time, DVC gives CRO the ability to rent out any point inventory not already reserved for points by members. So 60 days or less ahead of arrival, members who want DVC rooms are competing for the available inventory with the general public. The cash for this comes back to DVC and helps to reduce our dues. Believe it is listed under "Breakage Income" in the budget.

If DVC didn't allow CRO to rent those rooms, it is very possible that rooms would end up vacant. Better DVC gets some $$ for them. While this does make it tough to book last minute trips, overall, I think it is in the best interests of the membership for DVC to do this.

Enjoy your trip!

bongo59.... Just a suggestion, but you might want to try and contact the DVC resort that you want to stay at directly if you can still cancel your other reservations. Sometimes they can do something for you.

well i am not mad any more......i get that......well we are packing now.....the wife and kids just got home and i just old them where we are going tomorrow!!!!!! the three yr old is going nuts right now!!!!

FYI - I tried to book the weekend of the 15th, the 22nd and the 29th about a month ago and no available but OKW and BWV. I ended up booking the weekend of the 29th at the BWV and I think there was like one room left and I snagged it. So unless there was a cancellation, all rooms were probably booked.

Glad you are not letting this get to you and you are enjoying the excitement of your family. You are doing a great thing by taking them and your kids will have a much better time w/ a Happy Dad rather than a Grumpy one. Sorry you had to use cash though. So vent w/ us, and then go enjoy your family this weekend. It's so great of you to keep your disappointment away from them. I commend you for doing so.

Hope you have great weather and a wonderful time.
