I haven't even begun to plan my next trip and tomorrow is the 90 day mark and I have to make my first batch of ADRs at 7am! I know that I want to make one for Chef Mickey's (never done it) and for Le Chefs de France (do it everytime!). I was hoping to do Chefs with the candlelight package, but haven’t seen details on packages yet. I'm thinking I'd love to add California Grille at fireworks time. I wish I could to HDDR but it's too much and my wife and Mom are a little burned out on it. We are going to be there for 2 weeks (or more) and DW doesn't like to cook on vacation so we need some more ADRs. I know, I'm a Disney 'expert' and should be able to come up with my own ideas but like I said, I'm freaking out and need some ideas.

You are going to love Chef Mickey's .....at least I can speak for the breakfast! The characters are gret and the buffet is a large selection. All are similar but this one has some good extras.

Boma at the AK is a win win for us every year. They have new and interesting themed food but still have plenty of classic American things. Great dessert selection. And getting to hang out and watch the animals out on the Sahara which you wait is really cool.

Prime Time is also one of our favorites. Plenty of home cookin stuff like fried chicken and meatloaf (we dont go to Disney to loose weight :) And the atmosphere with the staff is fun. if you are a peanut nutter fan get the peanut butter and jelly milkshakes. Sounds weird and I was hesitant but the beast dessert ever.

And this may be a strange one and they dont take reservations but if you go 5 or 6 you should be good. We stayed at the Boardwalk for a convention I had last week and went over to the ESPN resturant. We are not sports fans and have 2 little ones so did not want the bar scene. It was very family oriented. The atmosphere was neat and the food surprisingly amazing! Great burgers and fries and chicken dishes. Plus Beaches and Cream is around the lake for dessert!

Hope these few suggestions help! We will be at the Fort Dec 5-20 so hope to see you there!

I was treated to the breakfast buffet at Boma a couple years ago, and I *still* daydream about it. It was fabulous! :cool1:

Have you tried Artist's Point at WL? The mushroom soup was the best soup I've ever had. In fact, the food was OK, but the soup is worth a trip for a late lunch. Dinner is a little pricey for the food, so that's why I'd shoot for lunch. If you can get a window seat, the falls are spectacular.:thumbsup2

I second that......The Prime Time Cafe.....it is yumm-O! AND we all love the Pnut butter and Jelly shakes....they are the bomb...according to my children!

Alright Mr. Clause, I hesitate to give you any advice being as the last time I attempted to help you, you made fun of me!:rotfl:

You probably stayed up all night and already have this worked out anyway. I think you have some excellent ideas and I really have nothing new to bring to the table. However, our experiences are as follows. We love Chef Mickey's, though the food is almost identical to The Crystal Palace, which we like it as well. My kids think you cannot go to Animal Kingdom without breakfast at Rainforest Cafe. The 'Ohana breakfast is really good. Liberty Tree Tavern and Akershus are okay. We were not impressed with Tony's, Coral Reef, or Sci-Fi as far as food goes. We did enjoy Le Cellier. Most of what we have done are kind of run-of-the-mill and it sounds like you are wanting something a little more special or different. About the only "special" dining we have done was CRT.

Good luck and I'll be curious to know what you choose (or get) and how it goes. Be sure to update us on your dining experience in your trip report.:thumbsup2

I also hate to recommend restaurants in Disney as they are so hit or miss these days. Yet....I was pleasantly surprised last November with Mama Melrose in the Studios.:wizard: MGM...or whatever the heck they're calling that place these days..:confused3....I still and will probably always call it MGM.
Anyway we had tried it many years ago and weren't too impressed.
Last November we tried it for lunch and I have to say it was much better than our first experience. In fact..I preferred the lunch menu to the dinner...and the waitstaff was excellent. We had a very nice leisurely lunch, and the food was good.

Thanks for the recommendations y'all, I ended up deciding to cancel the first 5 days of our reservation which means I have 4 more days to figure out my itinerary.

There have been a couple of exciting (to me) developments though. One, we WILL be doing Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue again!
thumbup.gif

That is, assuming I can get category 1 for the 1st or 2nd seating on the one and only day we can do it! And we will be doing Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party again this year! We are going to try to get the Candlelight Processional package with Chefs de France. We will be doing Tuto Italia again. And I am planning on either Chef Mickey's or Tusker House for a character breakfast... I've never done a character meal (no not one) and I feel it is high-time! I had also planned on doing Mama Melrose's before hearing Auntie's recommend, and feel all the more secure in doing it now... thanks Auntie. In response to some other suggestions:
  • I have long wanted to try Boma's, but my Mrs is not terribly adventurous (but I may still lobby for it)
  • we LOVE Artist's Pointe, but it may be a bit rich for our blood this trip
  • we also LOVE Le Cellier, but again it may be a bit rich for our blood this trip
  • I may lobby for Prime Time this trip, but we will probably have to luck into a seating rather than having an ADR.
  • I would love to do CRT, but we're going to ease into this character dining thing
CampingBandit, I hate that I'll miss y'all too. But at least now it will be by a week, so we don't have to feel as bad as JUST missing! LOL

Olivia, I don't recall having ever made fun of you, but if the former advice was as pedestrian as this was then I may have made fun of the advice!

YOU KNOW I’M KIDDING! You're one of my favorite DIS'ers

BTW, it's Claus not Clause... tsk, tsk, tsk.

Well it's about time you got back with us.:)

 I can't believe I put an "e" on Claus! One of the few times I've seen it spelled with an "e" is in the movie The Santa Clause that Disney put out with Tim Allen. From that movie on, I second guess myself everytime I spell it.:confused3

You're correct. You didn't make fun of me, it was just my advice. (For the record, I was telling you the same thing the others were, it just wasn't coming out right!:lmao:)

I am shocked that you and the Mrs. have never done a character dining experience! I've heard great things about Tusker House, but I know from experience Chef Mickey's is good. You probably can't go wrong with either.

That's great news about HDDR. You obviously enjoy that one!

I sure hope our paths cross one day.:cutie:

Hey Shan-man,

Are you a "Tables in Wonderland" card holder? That's 20% off your meals including alcohol !!! I'ts good at most restaurants in DW parks as well as many resort restaurants. It's a great deal if you "use" it.

Dave

OK. I have to ask what "Tables in Wonderland" refers to. Always looking for a dining deal! :yay:

I sure hope our paths cross one day.:cutie:

Me too, my friend... me too! Though I have a feeling I have a terrible pinch coming when we do!
sc_tongue2.gif

BamaEd, I have 94 days, 3 hours and 50 minutes until check-in... but I will be on the phone 7 am on the 4th!

Dave, I am not on the TiW, but I seriously considered it last year. It would have REALLY been worthwhile last year, but I'm hoping to keep our dining more in check this year.

Shan, me and my DH really enjoy Cape May Buffet for dinner, and we have also found another favorite in the Captain's Grille at Yacht Club, usually very easy to get into and a good price.

We also tried Marrakesh last week. That was GOOD!! We went all out on Free Dining with the Morrocan Feast, but the regular entrees are quite reasonable. Even though it sounds exotic, it's chicken, beef, pork, and the most exotic is lamb which was fall off the bone tender and delicious.

If you go to California Grill, be adventurous and try the Ostrich. It was wonderful. Very tender, very lean and delicious. I was scared off at first because they used the word "seared", but they will prepare it up to medium.

FYI, Artist Point is only open for dinner.

We also enjoy Yachtsmen Steakhouse. Pricey, but wow, what a great steak!!

Coral Reef is also good.

(Can you tell we just got back from a week of free dining :cool1:)

Shan, you do realize you can book dining online now?? I find it much more friendly than being on the phone :-) I can sit there with the menus from allears.net and play around with what I want and what's available.

I'm not a pincher, I'm a hugger.

BTW, I am blond (e is optional:laughing:) so my advice and I are used to being made fun of. I'm not stupid, I'm just spacey.:rotfl:

Carol, thanks for the recommendations. I have been keeping Cape May in mind the last couple of trips given the popularity among DISers. I will add Captain's Grille to my list of no-ADR needed restaurants... one of which is Yachtsman, which I have long wanted to try.

We have eaten at Marrakech and found it good and entertaining, plus it was EMPTY when everything else at EPCOT was booked solid. I've done Coral Reef a number of times, the most recent being 2 years ago and found the lunch to be good and reasonably priced (for Disney... i.e. lunch = dinner prices at Appleby's, Dinner = Cheesecake Factory prices).

I am hoping to get us into California Grill, and after hearing you rave about it Ostrich will definitely under consideration. If nothing else I can get a little taste of Boma without dragging my wife somewhere exotic! This will be our first time at CG.

I had been on there with my first reservation (the 5 days I'm now canceling) at 90 days and it didn't seem to want to let me book 90+10. Were you able to do 90+10 online? Yes, I put in my ressie number and it showed my dates, I just couldn't book into December.

Sounds like you had a great time eating around the World, Carol. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Sorry, never tried the 90+10
