The 20th Walt Disney World Marathon - Course Reveal!

I like it. The biggest complaint I see is how early some people will clear the castle (Mile 5-6).

Aside from that, I won't miss the loop back around through EPCOT to begin, and while we still have our miles on Osceola Pkwy, they break it up with a trip through the sports resort.

Looking forward to it.:thumbsup2

I'd love to get my hands on that Google Earth/KML file used in the video for a closer look. Wonder if it's available?

I am very, very impressed. I’m slow enough that it’ll probably be sunrise when I get to MK.

I'm a little sad about losing the early EPCOT stop though. I used a nice bathroom there last year. :D

I like it, overall. Looks like they tried to break up the monotony of those long highway miles, which is a plus.

I also really like that the 5.5 miles to the Magic Kingdom are the longest you go without either a park or attraction.

Hmmm....there are an awful lot of twists and turns in the WWoS section. Not going to be very speedy there (although arguable, at Mile 16, not going to be speedy anyway!)

Running on the race track and in the stadium might be an interesting change of pace.

BTW....here's the direct link to the course map.

Looks like I won't get my chance to ride Everest either. AK is now at Mile 13.

I like the idea of not passing by the start twice.

:woohoo: Just noticed we will be on the McDonald's side of Osceola Pkwy. so I'll finally be able to stop for my M&M McFlurry. Did that a few weeks ago during the Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon. :woohoo:

I'm excited about the new course. I think they did a good job of mixing it up. Looks like this is the kick I needed to finally register!

I will sadly be one of those people running through the castle in the dark. And I'm slightly worried about how we will run on the speedway...hopefully not on the banked part!!

I do love epcot in the dark, the castle was really cool as an about halfway. The race track COULD be cool, but it could be epically slow. You'll be on a very long oval

I love this course! The first part to MK looks like the Half course so it looks like I will be in MK while it is dark again.... But the rest looks awesome. And I like the fact that once you are out of MK, you won't be on a highway stretch longer than a 5K distance before another park/speedway/something interesting.

Yay!

The course tipped my hand to register too. I had been thinking about it for a few weeks but hadn't fully committed yet. Now I am registered!:cool1:
I just realized that I will have three Mickey's that all look different since I did 2007 (normal Mickey), 2011 (running Mickey) and 2013 (:confused3):goodvibes

I've never done the Disney Marathon, although I have done the Disneyland half. Most of the changes look pretty good. I agree with Maura that that there are a lot of turns through WWS. As far as the mile 20 spectactular, I'm guessing they are going to try and do something similar to the run through Angel Stadium in Amaheim. Heading around the stadium there was a large group of cheerleaders and highschool bands playing, then inside, the stadium was full of scouts cheering the runners on. At DL, it was the best section outside of the themeparks.

I think the changes to the course are good. I don't see myself doing another WDW full any time soon but I think the course is an improvement. As cool as going through Epcot at night was I think having no course overlap is better.

I did the Mini Marathon in Indianapolis which does a lap on the speedway. On paper it seems like a good idea but in actuality it was kind of brutal. The speedway is huge and made for cars traveling 150-200 mph. Running around that track made it feel like you weren't moving at all.

True. If the weather is warm, and the sun is shining, that section is going to be HOT! I ran the USAF marathon a few years ago, and you spend a mile or so running down a runway. Kind of neat, but it went on, and on, and on. . . and with the sun on a warm day, it wasn't terribly fun after a few minutes.

Ha! Seriously? That is hilarious.

I like the changes. I like that you get to the Magic Kingdom a bit earlier (more like the half marathon). Although... I haven't done a full at WDW before, so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

Excited for January!

I think I like it too. Nothing overly exciting to me in the changes. I could care less about the speedway. I have seen the WWoS enough, and will run through it for ToT. No real complaints though.

That's how I feel. That track is going to feel aweful long and slow.

Not happy to not be able to run under Spaceship Earth in the dark, and I didn't mind running past the start twice.

Also not happy that I'd be running in the MK in the dark. I liked getting to mile 11 when the sun was starting to come up.

I was on the fence about running in '13 since I plan to run Big Sur in April. This may actually tip me in the direction of not running it with the course changes. We shall see.
