The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Are you taking the *Mickey* again? :goodvibes

Do book a play, lots of people booking Love never ends, the Phantom 2 by ALW. You cannot come to London and not see a show, Lion King is good but not .

We just got tickets last week for Lion King. Plenty of good seats are available at ticketmaster.co.uk, and you can pick your seats and print out a PDF of your tickets. Tickets were pretty reasonably priced, too, by US standards at least.

Andrew I don't think she was being overly negative in her post -just stating that she differed with your opinion in some respects.

People should be able to voice their difference of opinion without being scolded for it.

Obviously your opinion is valued here and there will be people that agree and some that don't.
Like a friend of mine used to say "You have to make like a duck and let it roll off your back".

In other words, not every disagreement needs a huge response.

:flower3:

Ditto. Well said. :grouphug:

Lastly, I do can I say despair about a few posts on these boards, and hence why I post less and less and less, no sooner than you try to respond to an answer, the best you can, someone will make posts like this, not to 'add value' and make positive constructive suggestions but so come back personally. I myself took a decision a while back to call these boards a day, and not post after July, but the few places I post now is where people request information on London. Despite some few negative posts back on me I still come back to try to help people with my local knowledge.
.

Andrew, please keep posting as often as you feel appropriate. Your sightseeing advice is extremely helpful, and your information on the DCL activities, excursion availability, dinner schedules, Palo, and everything else has been invaluable.

Again, ditto. :thumbsup2 I appreciate your input AND I appreciate the input of others equally as well. It's been really valuable to have different insights from lots of different people, and then form my own opinions and choices based on all the information gathered from these boards.

You know I didn't even really look at that list above at first as I am having a hard enough time deciding what we want to do in London as it is, but the Benjamin Franklin House is exactly something my history-loving family would like to see:thumbsup2

We took our daughters to the Benjamin Franklin House during our first trip to London a few years ago, and it was very neat and very historical. It's also right off Trafalgar Square, if I remember correctly, and therefore very close to the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and a really neat church (I think St. Martins in the Field, but I could be remembering wrong and someone who lives there will correct me). In other words, you could spend a LONG time in that general area and cover a lot of ground, as it were.

I heartily agree with this. Andrew's knowledge and insights, not only of London but of DCL in general, is terrific and very valuable. Hope you stick around on these boards Andrew. You are a great source!

Andrew
THank you for your posts and your "come back" to the insensitive response from the "poster."
Thank you Andrew for your willingness to share for the benefit of some many others for nothing in return!

Andrew
THank you for your posts and your "come back" to the insensitive response from the "poster." It was a personal attack on you.
Some people just have to "toot" their horn to make themselves feel good. Thank you Andrew for your willingness to share for the benefit of some many others for nothing in return!

Heidi

Are you kidding me? Since when is a difference of opinion a personal attack? If one is so sensitive that differing views hurt their feelings it may be time to step away from the keyboard. This is the Dis where all views, experiences and opinions are welcomed. Unfortunately, it seems that some folks are turning this board into a whole "us against them" mentality and it shouldn't be like that.

IMO, your post quoted above may be the closest thing to a personal attack that I have read on this board today!

That looks really interesting and something our family would enjoy also! Laurie, I think our families will be getting along great! :thumbsup2

Excellent post, Laurie! Everyone has different opinions, it doesn't make one better or more right than the other. It just makes it different. We have to take all the information and form our own opinions from that. We have to remember that there are many different dynamics among everyone that posts here.

Isn't that the truth.....

Do book a play, lots of people booking Love never ends, the Phantom 2 by ALW. You cannot come to London and not see a show, Lion King is good but not like AK.

Avenue Q -Fun
We Will Rock You - Queen music

Les Miserables Bit heavy but good
Thriller - Live -MJ Tribute.

Well done Andrew! I don't think there is any question that our 2 days in London will be jammed packed! There is so much to see and do. We plan on spending one day on the HOHO busses and will keep your suggestions handy to help decide when to hop off and when just to take a picture as we pass by.

Obviously everyone has different interests but it's fun to hear what the locals say about their city. Reading the posts by Brits whose country we are going to visit is just really cool.

To the comment that "those that live in the area have vastly different interests than those seeing it for the first time". I don't understand this. I've traveled all over the world and the best advice always comes from the locals.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to offer your opinion. Had I know it was gonna be "controversal", I would have PM'd you as I've done in the past for advice/opinons/suggestions but I thought others might also value the opinions of the locals.

~Mike

From reading today's posts I think this summarizes it:

1) There are people who agree/disagree with opinions and suggestions (given in good faith, I believe) on the boards.

2) People look to the boards for advice that they can "take or leave". That's the beauty of asking for opinions. It helps you make your own informed decisions.

One thing I think we can all agree on:

We can agree that is OK for all of us to disagree (respectfully, of course!)

Looking forward to seeing this now:woohoo:

Thanks to Mike for listing it and sbell for pointing it out:thumbsup2

I totally understand why a local resident might not find this as interesting as an American tourist.

Andrew at one point awhile back you said you might come and see the Magic when we are embarking. Are you still considering this?
We would love to meet you!
Rita

Oh yeah:thumbsup2 Maybe we'll see you there then:woohoo:

We're still working out London. So much to see and just love the history there.

Can we please all be constructive, the vast majority would like this. We have different opinions, but all are valid.

You just totally contradicted yourself. It's okay for YOU to have an opinion, but when someone else comes along and suggests that people see some of the things that you didn't highlight, you ATTACKED.:sad2::sad2:

I'm sorry but I have to disagree.....j/k :-)

I spend much of my internet forum time on a triathlon forum...and you've never seen such disagreement as you see with a bunch of competitive triathletes.

I agree we are all entitled to our opinion but it seems to me that when people opine about someone else's opinion, that is when things start to go down like an airplane in a cloud of volcanic ash! What I mean is, it's ok to offer an opion differnt from someone else. We can do this simply by offering a different opinion....w/o ever even mentioning the opinion we disagree with. Does this make any sense?

~Mike

'
There was a list.
Yes, it was asked for Andrew to give an opinion on the list.
But...the list is posted on a PUBLIC forum.
Andrew gave his opinion.
Someone else gave theirs.

That's not opining on someone else's opinion, that's SIMPLY GIVING ANOTHER OPINION.

Please......the first opinion-giver needs to quit getting his knickers in a knot.

AND....this is a DISCUSSION FORUM. I think we all know the definition of DISCUSSION. Boiled down, it means that one person can say something, and others can discuss it.

Asked my well-traveled sister what she liked about London and what she recommended for us to try and see in our day and a half there.

So funny, but her list was way different from what anything my family would want to see:confused3If I tried to take my family to Harrods there would be a huge rebellion:laughing:
So I just said thanks to my sis and left it at that.

But I think sbell had a very interesting point-that there will be things that a local might find very interesting that an american tourist would not and visa versa. Also one american family will like some things and another family other things. Doesn't make one better than the other:confused3

I would have no problem if someone had posted sbell's observation to me about my city :confused3

To each their own

My DH has told me stories about the things that get posted on other forums. You should see how nasty a Star Wars forum can get:scared1:
