The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Andrew:
Thanks for the info.
Can you go through Guest Services? We have several private tours in Europe who require cash USD payments. I don't want to carry a ton of money. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Heidi

Guest services will *cash* dollars to you, but not a lot, cant remember how much but there is a limit.

If your tours are in StP, they will require clean $50 bills and DCL might not be able to do that for you.

I think its best to bring it, or does your USA Bank have a UK office where you can cash in $?

To those planning on visiting the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen, looks like an interesting place to work. Let's hope they work things out by the time we get there. Check out the following article.

Nothing like having Happy Hour all day long! :rotfl:

F.Y.I. - Disney has announced a "kids sail free" deal on the 6/12 and 6/24 sailings. As long as two adults pay full fare, any kids in the party under 17 are free. Offer is only good for U.S. and Canadian residents.

This offer has been out for at least two weeks now, on the website. But is a good offer on the first two cruises, it does mean people taking kids out of school so is to tempt people to do that.

FYI - at 1pm eastern on the Travel Channel there's a show called Britains Top 10 Castles - don't know which one's they're showing but it might be interesting

We visited the brewery about 15 years ago - it was the nicest tour I've ever taken. They asked what country you were from & which language you spoke (they do the tours in multiple languages) At the end of the tour they take you to this big room & there all tons of portraits on the walls. They are of people who worked for the company for X number of years (much nicer than a watch) on the tables they had a little arrangement with flags from all the countries represented on your tour. Oh yeah they gave you free samples of beer too :woohoo:

Does anyone have any idea where I can find the excursion times. DCL's webpage has the duration of the excursions and price but not what time they are offered. I know I saw it somewhere. Please HELP! We're trying to finalize before we book next week.

Thanks!

This is the one tour I am most looking forward to! Back in the 70s my dad worked on the campaign to bring Carlsberg to Canada! He visited the brewery in Copenhagen a lot back then, so I'm hoping they might have some information on it in their archives. Dad left us in 97, so it would be great memories if they had anything. Also, my first job at 15 was working as a Carlsberg greeter at the Canadian National Exhibition. I even got to ride in the parade one day, and got to meet Carl Holman who did all the beer commercials for Carlsberg in Canada in the 70s!

How far in advance do you recommend purchasing train tickets from London to Dover? And do I buy round trip tickets or one way?
Thanks,
Carol

You do get a good discount booking in advance, compared to on the day, I would say the best time is just before a month out.

Think of your route as you can do:-

Charring Cross>London Bridge>Dover,
or
Victoria> Dover.

Or on high speed trains,

St Pancras to Dover. (Great terminus in North London)

I normally purchase returns as I tend to return same day, I would expect RETURNS to be cheaper overall and would avoid the queue at Dover on the cruise return and a number of people there all at the same time.

Book on this website for Southeastern trains that operate all of the services.

How neat is that, I hope you'll be able to find something with your dad! I grew up in Buffalo & we got all the Canadian tv station so I know the commercials you're talking about. I'm sure you'll have a great time

Oh yes recall that now, had a lot of PM's, that is best for you.

Enjoy.

And we have warmed up now, dont worry about reports of snow, ice etc, we have just had a great spring weekend and hotter than Greece.

We are staying near Marble Arch while in London. Our return flight is at 9am on Saturday from Gatwick. :confused3
Any suggestions on the route from Marble Arch to Gatwick very early on a Saturday morning (probably arriving to the airport by 7am)?
And how much time to allow of the 7 of us (we will each have a large suitcase)?
How different are the Tube schedules on Saturday?
Will we have much "rush hour" on a Saturday? .. I would assume not..
Would you recommend just hiring a car to come and pick us up? (Would traffic take forever?)
Thanks so much .. this is the last of my big planning and we should be good to go..:cheer2:
